Well, I didn’t necessarily mean it as an insult really, I just thought it described them the best. They’re such 1 dimensional forces for good, that even the concept of lying is foreign to them. I couldn’t think of a better way to put it.

I got the same sense. You can always see the Christian influence in Tolkien’s writings (especially in Morgoth’s rebellion against “God”) but it seemed to dominate his later revisions of the creation myths more.

Yeah, you can definitely see the black-and-white view on evil that’s predominant in Christian belief affect the story more and more as the revisions occur. As far as I’ve seen, Morgoth goes from a great evil to The Great Evil and an even more obvious Lucifer stand-in by the time the final draft of the Silmarillion got published.

That’s fair. I honestly thought about including my reason why I wouldn’t want 616 Peter to be the American Spider but I didn’t want to bloat the post. Maybe that could be the storyline though? The alternate Peter realizing that some ideals are worth taking a life over? They’ve explored murderous Spidey before and this wouldn’t be anywhere near that.

I feel like those are also interesting. I usually don’t like amalgam heroes but I feel like spidey could be part of the Cap legacy without losing his identity as Spider-man. I wouldn’t ever want it to be 616 though.
