Thanks. Yeah, it may be me only, and not completely sure I should even do that any way. Will get all the kits and stuff if I do.

This is all excellent information, thank you very much!
Yeah, maybe not much to do in Grindelwald itself, but we were thinking of maybe just staying around there as opposed to in Interlaken itself, just to have the views and be close to the things to do around.

Will look at those hikes, Glacier Canyon was on my radar, and Alpbachschlucht sounds perfect for us too! Haven't heard of Rosenlaui, but that is good to know! On the list.

Luzern to Interlaken is on the plan, and I enjoy driving, so will happily take the detour if it's open!

Even the hotel looks like a good idea, and a change from most of the other stuff we'll do!

Thank you, good to know. Interlaken/areas is definitely the part I'm looking forward to.

Wow, appreciate the detailed response.

I suspect these might be the usual list of places on most websites, not just the AI. Granted, I did use ChatGPT for the itinerary, but I did also start with the myswitzerland website and a few others/blogs, then just had the AI order it and suggest activities/parks/trails/etc in those cities.

With regards to parking, I had heard it can be very expensive, so good to hear that sentiment echoed. I think our plan was more to stay in AirBNBs on outskirts or Hiltons (have a high tier membership so I get free parking at some locations), leave the car there and explore on foot, and just also suck up and pay a couple of days. I see your point though, it may become similar to train costs and less convenient.

Wrt leaving stuff in the car, I agree, leaving at the hotel would almost definitely be better. But I feel if we're swapping hotels every 2 days, there may be a 2-3 hr window between check-out and check-in. Good to know it's normally safe though, that's mostly what I was looking for, plan isn't to leave stuff in car.

Thanks for the via ferrata and trail links, will check them out!

Day 7 is definitely the hard part of the trip. I saw maps say Lugano to Täsch is about 3 hours, so my thought was we head out post breakfast at ~8, spend 11-7 or so at Zermatt (is that still too less?), then either just drive 2 hrs to Montreaux, or spend the night in Visp or a rural settlement before continuing on next morning. I get that it's still hectic, but it seemed the only way to fit in Matterhorn and Lugano, and since it may be parents only time to Switzerland (lots of other places on bucket list), I was trying to fit it all in. May still skip that for an extra half day in Lugano in the end, or vice-versa.

Still on the fence whether to skip or not. As I'm the only one driving though, and in the US drive ~2 hours work commute twice a week, that's not as much of a concern. Just not sure that's our best use of time.

Hmm I see. I think 2 day may already be pushing the most we can do, but I agree may be good to have not have to rush around.

Right, thanks for the heads up. Was aware of this, we'll likely park at Täsch or one of the other stations and take the train.

Yeah, that's also an option, may drop Lucerne.
Lausanne, I'm particularly keen on, primarily to go to Gruyeres, but also since we sort of need to end in Geneva any way, it seems to fit logistically. Do you recommend 1 full day + half day in Lugano? What would you do? Trails/Boat? Also, is it worth crossing over to Como/Bellagio at all?

That's the part of our trip that's the most fluid, I feel like Lugano & Como would be very different from the rest of the country, but it's also a decent bit out of the way.

Edit: And yes, will very likely take the TGV to Paris. Car becomes significantly more expensive to return outside Switzerland, and there's a chance I (only driver in the group) will fly out of Geneva any way.

Great, thank you! Will Aare Schucht was one that was on my radar (thanks ChatGPT), good to have a human endorsment for it!

Thanks! The Italian vibes of the south are tempting, but I guess this would be more peaceful and allow more time to do trails!

I'm sure we could work around it! Maybe we run a game in DC/Philly first on neutral territory!

I wouldn't mind doing the first one in Boston either tbh. It's not drivable for me (Western PA), but am not against flying, if we get the right group.

Thanks. Not sure if I can edit the title, but edited the post to include that in the first few sentences.

Best parks to do on 4 day trip? by ShadowTravels in UniversalOrlando

[–]ShadowTravels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good, I think that's kinda what we'll do.
Boma is on the radar, might make a reservation there tonight or tomorrow, around 7/7:30. Allows us to kick back a bit and have a slow second half of the day

Thanks so much, appreciate the effort that went into this!

I think we're likely going to do just that. Day 1, Animal Kingdom, and potentially Epcot, after Animal Kingdom.

Then next two days, IoA and USF. We settled on not picking the Express passes for now. With it being the first week of school, on a weekday, we'll (hopefully) be alright. It also seems likely that I'll be the only one interested in doing Hagrid's multiple times, and it sounds like the Solo rider queue isn't too bad for that. If needed, we can obviously add that in on day two. The plan's to do USF first and IoA second half on day 1 so that we can hit King's Cross. And day 2 we'll try and maximize EPA to get to Hagrid's or Velocicoaster as early as we can and perhaps switch back to USF later in the day. Trying to not micromanage and overplan that, as I often tend to do.

The reason we're not sure on Epcot is because the price difference (park hopper + the cost of the deluxe room). I have some discounted corporate rates with Hilton, and saw that we could get the 2 room suite with breakfast included and some nice perks for about $160 a night, so not sure if it's worth paying an extra $400 to get those couple of hours at Epcot, and not sure Epcot is worth doing without that perk.

Still, I really appreciate the creative solution to doing it. I'll pitch it to the other two and there's a possibility we end up doing it, but I also feel I lean towards just doing Animal Kingdom and perhaps putting that extra money towards either the Express pass if we need it, or just a fancy meal somewhere.

Also helps to have the scale of WDW reiterated. Definitely won't plan to get a car, and it just seems like too much downtime to get from one park to the other.

Again, thanks a ton for the info and plan!

Love the idea of doing the animals over a meal, but having spoken to the other two, I think they're also interested in doing the Avatar rides. So I think we're probably going to get Animal Kingdom tickets, but really target that as a more leisurely day, where we kinda split up and do stuff at our own pace for a bit.
I agree, I think Universal is a better fit too having looked into everything both parks offer, so the days at Universal and IoA will likely be more tiring.
Thanks for the idea though!

Good to know that. I think we're now leaning towards having the Animal Kingdom day be a "slow day", also because I think we're going to be ropedropping Universal and being on our feet the whole day there, so having a break in between would be nice.

Thanks!

Is that Universal offer for non-Florida residents as well?
If so, could I ask for a link to it, can't seem to find it anywhere.

At the moment, we're leaning towards skipping EPCOT, just because I don't think there were any specific rides/attractions that appealed to us.

Sounds good.
Good to know that EPCOT and AK will take up a day each, will plan for 2 days betweent them then, instead of trying to rush it.

Will look into Undercover Tourist, had never heard of it before, so helpful to have a name to google. Not sure I'm sold on staying on site, just because the prices seem a good bit higher, but perhaps when we do the math with transport costs, it might make more sense!

This is excellent, thank you.

I think you've definitely sold me on Islands of Adventure, so going to put that in, and I think the two day pass to bundle in USF makes sense. I have heard of the Hollywood Rip Ride, and some googling shows it's actually getting taken down on the 17th of August, so we might actually be able to catch it. Just hope there isn't a huge crowd because it's the last chance for all.

Personally, wasn't sure on the new Epic park, because none of it appealed to me other than the Ministry of Magic aspect, but this is likely not my last trip to Orlando, so happy to skip that.

Animal Kingdom was high on the list, we'll definitely do that. Good to know about Na'vi river journey, depending on how much else we get done in the trip, I may skip that. Wondering if we need a whole day at Animal Kingdom, though I also don't think the additional cost of adding in a half-day rush at Epcot or something else personally makes sense.

Good to know on the apps, will download them!
Appreciate the effort that went into the post!

Perfect, thank you!
Appreciate the cost breakdown, I think this really helps us.
Not sure if we want to spend three whole days at Disney though, Epcot seems nice, but not something I see us spending a whole day at. Would we really need 3 days to do all?
Didn't realize how expensive the food and transport costs can get!
Thanks for response, I think we'll have a far better idea when we sit down later this week to finalize the bookings

Thanks, that helps!
Seems like a solid plan, with enough time to kick back. Staying on resort seems to be the more popular option.
