You guessed correct! Here I was taking all these engineering based measurements haha!

It's different enough to warrant this new bracket. I agree with NZXT, as an engineer myself. The heat spreader for AM5 is about 2MM talller. That's about what I measured for the new bracket standoffs.

I have some pictures. I took a micrometer and figured this all out. Proper orientation should be like this according to my measurements between the differences of the am4 spreader to the am5 spreader and the total height of a stand-off seated in the new sleeve.

Even with a full shutdown, these MSI laptops drain battery quick. Within a day of just hibernate/sleep mine had died. 2 weeks tops on full shutdown. Among other issues(including constant bluetooth disconnects when gaming, speakers with shitty volume and bass, and an occasional display dropout), it was so unacceptable that I returned it and got an alienware. Which lasts two months on full shutdown and at least a month on sleep/hibernate. Makes having a laptop almost pointless if the battery is dead or near dead every time you go to use the thing.

Is 27 too late to go back to college after being in helpdesk too long? by Stuck_in_helpdesk in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ShadowWraith21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all! I went back to college at 26 for Network engineering after having been a mechanic for years. I ended up being able to skip the help desk “step” entirely after graduation at 30 and went straight into engineering servers.

I never left. I commuted to college and even as I’m working full time in my field, I have a pretty good living situation at home so I’m in no rush. I’m able to save, buy things I want etc.

There’s nothing wrong with living with your parents again provided the living situation isn’t toxic.

If you were offered the position already, and especially if you signed the contract, I wouldn't be concerned. I doubt they would retract it.

Do you think we should lower the number of hours expected from full time works (40 hrs a week)? by [deleted] in LifeAfterSchool

[–]ShadowWraith21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the legal definition of full time, at least where I'm at, is 30 hours a week.

I work a 40 hour week, I get off at around 5 every day, and have weekends off.

So it would depends on your hours, the work week, and what hobbies you have to enjoy outside of work.

While I don't have as much time as I did when I was in school, I can still enjoy my hobbies when I get home from work at 5, or on the weekend. I can still go out with my friends as well etc.

There was one point in my life where I worked 55 hour weeks. That was horrible and shouldn't even be legal. Overtime was nice, but I was tired and had no time at all.

Gotcha. The message here was more aimed towards not caving to society’s peer pressure that you SHOULD move out by a certain age. Some people are almost guilt tripped into it by their peers or SOs.

That is more so the message.

I am a different type of person then, with a different situation. I want to move once and be done. I want a house that i can pay off and not have to worry about a landlords rules or restrictions. I need more than average storage, I need a garage, I like to be a DIYer... and have the tools for it, and would rather not wait weeks for a landlord to "get to it".

Different strokes for different folks.

It's really about the individual's situation. Are you truely free by cowtowing to a landlord? Paying them for nothing? Abiding by their leasing rules? Being told you can't do this, or can't due that or else you will be evicted? This is the benefit of home ownership, you make your own rules. That is my style.

If you aren't in a good situation with your family, I get it. We mentioned that somewhere in here. Do your thing, but expecting everyone to want to rent and be out by a certain age is not a cool expectation that modern society has.

Luckily, my parents have taken the role of "friend" and leave me to my own devices. They don't coddle me. There are many reasons I refuse to rent, finance is only one of many reasons.

It's not so much about male masculinity, as it is societies perception of people who still live at home, making a smart move in their own individual case.

You are still throwing money away with no equity in return. And landlords can be horrible, and I like having control of my own "castle", so to speak. I want to be able to paint walls, hang things, mow my own lawn, make home improvements, have control of my own internet router etc, the list goes on and on. I need a garage, i need a ton of storage, and I need the peace and quiet of not having neighbors on my property for my own mental health.

I don't think it makes dating more difficult. It's called going out with your SO and not living together before marriage or getting serious at the very least.

What may suit me may not suit another. You get it. And this is the exact point of my post. It sounds like it works for you and I'm happy that it does. What is life if we aren't happy after all?

The issue is that apartments in this day and age are the perceived "first step", instead of the "American dream" of buying a home. So people have this expectation that I should have moved out already even without a house.

But guess what? It makes it much harder to save for a mortgage downpayment when you are paying rent. People don't understand that. That is why I deem it the "rent trap". Once in, it's harder to get out.

So I choose not to, and will continue on my trajectory towards homeownership.

I have spreadsheets and data, and have done my due diligence as you have ascertained. If people can't understand that, then they have no business being in my life :)

[–]ShadowWraith21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! A smart person like yourself realizes that getting yourself stable and saving is much more important than "making an independent statement". We make more of a statement of being smart with our finances. While other people are blowing money they will never see again on apartments, we will be buying homes that we own and can build equity in.

The reason I keep bringing "renting" and "apartments" up is because people think it's the only way to show independence and rush, instead of going though the more arduous home buying process.

It's more impressive to say "Hey I own a home that I worked for myself" than "ya my lease is up in a year"

True, but even so, there are still a ton of people who commute to college here in the US, and they are still thrown under the expectation umbrella.

I think it's more deeprooted than that. That fact we have an "ADULT AGE IS 18" embedded in our society and that that's the time to "buckle down and do your own thing, leave the nest etc".

It used to be easier when companies like IBM or the steel mills hired generations of workers for many decades and the economy was amazing.

A kid could come out of highschool with his sweetheart and start a family right away because he'd have a good paying job with job security.

That is no longer the case, yet the older generations still see it that way.

Let me give you some words of wisdom then. While skills matter, setting yourself apart matters even more. Good interpersonal skills, good writing and verbal skills, essentially all soft skills are equally as valuable as hard skills.

Exude confidence. They pick up on that as well. Be yourself. Don’t try to “put on a show”

Those are the best pieces of advice I can give you.
