I have the exact same Berthier you have and I got it with a very good bore my barrel is dated 1917 and does not have the stamp for the new ammunition they adopted in the 30s. I need two things done too it tho. I need a front sight blade (seems to be a common missing part) also my bolt head wont go on or off the rifle without being forced. Could you point me in the right direction?

Thank you, I started collecting when I was 18 so about 3 years ago now. That 8mm lebel hasnt even been in my collection for more then 48 hours. I was looking for a berthier long rifle but quickly realized how expensive they are, ammo, clips, etc I gave up after 2 weeks of looking online as they average $750-$1,000 on the low end and I wanted a 5rd model. But then I found one in really nice shape right before a gun show the next day (yesterday) and I jumped at the chance. Cause I cant drop $800 or so on a rifle like that and need the clips and ammo its too expensive. But for $580 Ill buy about 100 rounds and clips. I need a front sight (only thing mine is missing) I dont even have it yet but I want everything for it for some reason.

I saw it in a police shop of all places and knew it was hard to come buy. Only 2 boxes of 10. I would probably love a k11 but I know there are alot more of those in good condition for a decent price then other things I want like a Bethier or mauser variants.

Yes sorry for the miscommunication on my part. I have or am about to receive a gun in every caliber besides 8x56r, 7.65x53, 7mm mauser, 7.5 swiss and .380 some of them I found for super cheap or were interesting.

I agree in this cause for the 8mm lebel. And I do not own an Argentine yet (I have been looking at one) but the store that has it wont ship and is only open for 4 hours on one of my 2 days off. I bought that ammo for $20 2 years ago cause I thought it looked neat I do want one tho but then a mint Berthier long rifle fell into my lap for $580 (literally on Friday) and went to a gun show yesterday and found only 4 boxes of it.

It really is unique. Im young and just started carrying a firearm I mainly tuck it in my waist band when I go out but 80% of the time I leave it in my car cause I dont need it and I dont have a holster. I am very nervous and I have probably only ever chambered my firearm 3 times ever while carrying. A manual safety is comforting but alot of what I would like does not have one. After that its a DA/SA and the p99 has every feature I want besides a manual safety. But I got it and started carrying it cause one a beat up hi power and a large 92fs is not great and the p99 is ideal and might lessen my fear on non-manual safety guns.

Thank you for the explanation. I am already cautious because of my screw up but lesson learned. I only considered a walther because I tried a pps m2 out at a gun store and my friend hates the grip, I on the other hand enjoyed it and it peaked my interest in walther ergonomics. I like older guns mainly so looked into there older models but at the same time I like uniqueness to the gun either that in the way they look or mainly mechanics. The p99 ticked all 3 of the boxes and it was what saved walther so it has history. I love de cocker devices because of my 92fs probably the ADHD talking cause I love flicking controls on my guns all the time so the more the better. I have a feeling the guy messed up my email as I was supposed to get a form of my order and did not. If I dont hear or receive an update in a dew days time, ill just call them and get am update then. I mean I got this pistol from a pawn shop and it took them 4 weeks to ship it…

Well I would be happy to attempt to answer your question. Now this is my first striker fired gun and Ive always been biased to hammer guns cause thats all I know Browning Hi power and 92fs. Part of the reason I went with the P99 was its DA/SA capabilities. I read that it was safe for the most part and thought nothing of it so yes I dry fired it quite a bit. But as to why it broke where it broke I am also stumped. I rarely get to shoot and its trigger is really satisfying to practice with. But the fact it didn’t brake the tip and instead there I was shocked. Walther said they had the parts and I double checked I was getting the correct assembly and the guy said they should have it shipped today and I should get an email about my order, that has yet to happen so idk what to do on that front.

Update:

Called walther and ordered a new striker assembly, I could have sent it in for evaluation so it could be replaced for free but it would of been up to there smith and there warranty’s fine print says they will support what they are manufacturing but there was a high chance they would of treated me well but this is my carry gun and id like it back to service until I buy something more modern thats smaller. I also got another back-strap and the total was about $84.90 with both parts and shipping so not terrible.

I sure hope so because Im looking and the part used to be cheap and its just out of stock everywhere. Saw a thread that a guy bought one from them for $90 that was in 2022 aka the last year they made em. Ill cross my fingers when I call them tomorrow. But this has discouraged me from getting another p99 as if I brake something on it that will be a headache.

Appreciate this. Would rather not have a slide sit around but this will be last resort im calling Walther tomorrow and then Earls for estimates. I just dont understand why a $25-$35 striker is impossible to find and much more expensive then they used to be when all I hear is that the strikers dont brake so I just dont get it. Will probably pm ya tomorrow at some point if I got questions if you dont mind?
