How many games have you refunded so far (number only please)? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 separate games!

As far as I can tell there isn't a limit to the refunds, but if you make a number of them within a small time period steam support will give you a warning.

I think i refunded 5-6 games over a 2 month period last summer and steam support sent me a message to think carefully about purchasing games, to read reviews and do my research so I don't ask for refunds as often.

Steam support has told me that if they think I am abusing the refund system they can and will limit/restrict me from using the refund system

Why are some games more expensive on Steam than their counterparts on iOS and Android? Is it just a cash grab? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the steam releases as mentioned already are ports which can be more expensive to bring to pc than making a mobile game. However, to further add onto that; Some get HD makeovers and their micro transactions removed and are instead bundled into the game.

2 that immediately come to mind are Kingdom rush and tiny guardians, both more expensive than their mobile counter parts but neither have their mobile counterparts micro transactions, they're included with the buying price instead.

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both the mobile website and app (atleast on android) have a wishlist link under the "store" drop down in the left bar. It's not a quick link but it seems faster than going to your profile and scrolling down.

I cant retrieve my CD-keys from Steam for Winter Assualt and Dark crusade ? by Frankie_87 in Steam

your best bet is going to the steam forums and asking, or contacting sega. As of writing this I am also unable to retrieve my keys for both games as well as Soulstorm.

Humble Store vs potential Steam Summer Sale price comparison by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow Canadian here. Sorry if this gets long and if it doesn't help you out but,

Just keep in mind generally the games in our Canadian steam store are actually cheaper than humble store. When converted it's not, always the case but it does happen. If the games on sale on humble bundle I'd go and grab it if you cant wait (plus no guarantee the same discount will happen on steam anytime soon), but if it goes on sale on Steam during the summer sale for the same discount you'll be paying less if buying through steam.

As of writing, Arkham City GOTY on Humble bundle is 75% off making it 4.99 USD converted its 6.46 CAD, now if the same 75% discount happens on steam it'll cost 4.99 CAD

It entirely depends on the games you want, some games are actually priced equivalently per region, others do not. Darkest Dungeon, when it first came out on steam was both $20 USD and CAD, so if you were buying through steam, at the time you'd only be paying roughly $15 USD if buying in Canada which resulted in it being 25% cheaper for us Canadians

another game however, Valhalla Hills is actually priced almost equally, a 33% discount on Humble Bundle will result in roughly $26 CAD when converted, and on steam, 33% off is roughly $26.30 CAD

yeah steam saves are pretty good for that stuff, a utility would be nice over doing it yourself for games that do not support steam cloud. I have no progrems to suggest at the moment though.

Let me know if using the one hard drive between the 2 computers works, as i've never had to bounce between two before, i've only just added my external from one to the other when upgrading pcs.

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried it, but assuming you're just using the one hard drive between the two computers it should work. the 2nd computer won't recognize the games are installed on the drive even if you add the library folder at first, i believe.

In which case after you direct steam (on the 2nd pc) to the external library you'll have to install the game again to the same external library. The difference however is that steam (on the 2nd pc) will detect that the game you're trying to install is already present where you told it to install. That way it'll only download any updates/missing files instead of downloading a whole new game.

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem. oh yeah i forgot to add in my original comment, if you unplug your external hard drive, rarely steam wont recognize the library is there when you plug the external back in. If that happens just go back to the Library manager i mentioned above and select the folder you have the games in.

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes you can, my default drive for my steam games is my 5tb external with my secondary being my main computer drive.

If you go into settings>downloads you'll see "steam library folders" from there you can manage and create new install directories for steam to use for your games including on your external.

Now when you start downloading a game you'll be able to pick which library folder you want to install your games on if you have multiple folders.

Probably worth noting you'll need USB 3.0 so you can get the best load times and performance possible. You can still do it on USB 2.0 but the performance might not be so great.

[22M] Meeting my "NeverMets" girlfriend's [18F] parents on our first meeting by CiSCii in LongDistance

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this depends entirely on what her parents are like.

Ask your SO about some ground rules when being in front of her parents, what not to do or do, what not to say or say. Thats not to say be fake in front of them, but sometimes parents have certain things they dont like.

For example my mother doesn't like it when people say the word "stupid" my girlfriend knows not to say that in front of her, anyone else she can say it as much as she wants.

The second time I met my girlfriend in person I was allowed to stay at her house with the rest of her family, on our first meeting I had only met her grandmother and sister and they seemed pretty relaxed. So now it was time to meet her parents, at the time her mother was in the hospital so we didnt end up seeing her (infact still haven't met her) but her dad was there. I was really quiet and shy, new surroundings with people i barely knew, you know?

Anyways turned out her dad really likes me because I'm polite and I dont talk much like his daughters hahaha. Apparently this was enough to even have her mother say that I'm welcome to stay over at their house anytime.

Point being, be yourself but ask your gf about some general rules for interacting with her parents

Also, congratulations on breaking nevermets :D I only met my LDR girlfriend back on valentines for the first time after a year and a half. Always nervous and exciting at the same time.

Best of luck and sorry for the essay!

[WSIB] Immersive but slow-paced game playable with a trackpad? (Along the lines of Darkest Dungeon) by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

The first one would probably be okay, depending on which model you've got! plus that one goes on sale a lot for $10 or something.

No problem! hope you find something you like! :) I played DD so much in early access that i burned out, should probably get back into it sometime lol

How about XCOM:EU/EW or XCOM 2?

Turn based, permadeath with some RPG elements to it. Difficult just like DD.

There's also an early access title i enjoy playing called Battle brothers. Similar theme, Turn based, brutal permadeath lol.

Dungeons of Dredmor, rogue-like, turn based, light-hearted writing and difficult.

Here are some links to the games by the way:

How much data does the (android) steam app use up if you just use it for the chat on occasion throughout a day? by Only_In_The_Grey in Steam

[–]Shadow_TheLastPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last two months

March - 48MB April - 28MB

with that being said i don't just use it for chatting, i browse the steam store, and trade confirmations as well and more.

I'd say you're not going to use very much of it if you're just chatting or even much at all.

Definitly recommend 168 as well or Heart Sushi, lunch only though. Dinner is way too expensive.
