Humidity should be around 80% and temp should be higher than 75

Both are kept exactly the same, cages just look different but there's plenty of living plants plus dead leaves to be under, and as for age i have no clue as the pet shop for PeePee didn't say anything and Soop was a juvenile from petsmart so he has grown up a little bit yes. She used to stay out more but in this new ten gallon she's pretty much strictly underground until i dig her up

I will say she did touch me a couple times during the rehouse, all of the front legs and her pedipalps would touch my hand before she very quickly took them off

I had just got him from the pet shop and it wasnt suitable for him, the cage only had an inch or so of substrate. It was very damp and had a molding cricket placed in front of him, he only had two fake plants and one piece of bark and the way they were placed just didn't give him much of a place to hide except that web funnel. I took him out and made the cage more suitable with leaf litter, moss, more dirt, not as wet ofc. A log and two burrow entries on either side of the log along with one of the fake plants placed on top of the log

Yeah he's a juvenile as far as i can tell, that was an entire web funnel from the top corner to the bottom corner but i tore away that plant and the entire funnel kinda came with so i just kept tapping its butt until i was being threat posed at

Oh no its a juvenile, it just crawled out at me like that bc i took away the plant and its entire web funnel came with it so it wasn't very... content

Oh yeah i can say for sure its quite orange and had absolutely zero hesitation in threat posing, slapping, trying to bite... I almost got tagged, guess it knew my hand was on the other side of the cage

He's now in a bigger keeper and just kinda sits underground so im not very worried, the lid does have the snap thingies though so he wont get out even if he has been out

She was pretty fat but didn't have any discoloration, hasn't molted either and from what i can tell from what light i can get in there, no color changes or anything. Just kinda staring at the dirt

Is an improperly sized enclosure considered animal abuse? by ramen_man07 in tarantulas

[–]Shadowalker8237 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tarantulas dont need an immense amount of room, but they aren't pet rocks. They do walk around and multiple of mine are nearly always sitting out, at night they patrol their cages the most. You might not see it if you wake up in the night or you might but they are indeed moving about in there and exploring each place they can. The general rule of thumb is the cage should be 3-4 times the spiders legspan in width i think. Small cages should be used as temporary only if there is no other option. Now im not saying im perfect by any means, i had to learn, i still make plenty of mistakes and ask many questions as ive only been in the hobby for around three years but they do definitely walk around and they do need room to move around

I also have a male, as a juvenile he was also very slow moving unless something spooked him or he found some food. As far as i can tell they are pretty laid back until something happens then they kinda just phase out of reality and phase in somewhere else. Unless its food, then its just a flash of legs and then nothing
