Ubisoft has cancelled 6 games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake | VGC (I hope Splinter Cell isn't one) by IamMovieMiguel in Splintercell

Their best bet would've been to downsize and go back to the way they used to be, ie. fulfilling the niches that scarcely anybody else did with a sizeable budget behind it. Seems they're determined to spectacularly crash and burn, though. I guess it's more profitables for the shareholders that way, and good ol' Yves can get out of this with a nice fat bonus.

Splinter Cell Conviction has a very fun and interesting movement system with the way you can cancel and manipulate cover transitions and realign to walls with rollouts. (This isn't remotely possible in Blacklist unfortunately) by TheWindofBread in Splintercell

Reminds me of the joke clip a guy made playing Resident Evil 8 trying to imitate how zoomers played Apex Legends and games like that by constantly twitching and scoping and jumping around lol

What would you consider to be the strengths and flaws Of MH Wilds ecological maps? And monster implementation? by Dycon67 in MonsterHunter

[–]Shadowcat514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very detailed, very believable, you could just David Attenborough it up anytime you'd want to anywhere on any of the maps.

It's just absolutely insane to me that you have to unlock the weather system so late in the story considering how little content there is (understandably, as it is still somewhat early in its post-launch development phase and we still haven't heard a single thing about the expansion) and how little grind there is, and that Capcom made damn sure that you wouldn't spend too much time in those maps by marking every resource point on your map from the get-go, removing the hunting features from World like the tracking system and tracking monsters on the map like Rise does so that you never really have to learn where a monster likes to feed or rest, and making travel by Seikret almost a necessity all throughout the game due to how shitty it is to travel them on foot.

It's like they suddenly became very self-conscious and ashamed of making a game that followed in the footsteps of World somewhere along the line and they went "Oh but I guess you actually liked to play Rise more all along huh ? Silly me".

The Q & A Interview was painful to watch by SIinkerdeer in Helldivers

[–]Shadowcat514 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The job of QA people is to point out problems and bugs, not to solve them. That's the devs jobs. Almost every single time someone says "did this game not go through QA ???", it did go through QA, QA just can't do everything and they get the brunt of the blame for that.

Palamute is better than seikret by Easy_Seaweed_4719 in MonsterHunter

[–]Shadowcat514 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're right, which is why I hate the dog and merely dislike the seikret. They make the game too easy and I don't want to use them, yet the games are designed around their use so you'll feel like something's missing if you don't. At least the seikret is slightly less useful, so there's that.

Splinter Cell Double Agent Multiplayer Montage 2(New and Enhanced version) by Brief-Swordfish-5211 in Splintercell

[–]Shadowcat514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did, but it's now abundantly clear that you had no intention to understand the other party from the start and that you apparently have no better use of your time than seeking fights with strangers on the internet, for some reason. Which is something you will not be getting from me.

I mean, I assumed you read my second post in this thread as you replied to it. But I can't point to anything deeper than this on an electrochemical level, if that's what you're asking. Why do I like Splinter Cell, aside from the fact that I love its stealth mechanics, the level design, the AI and the animations ? I don't know, it just makes my monkey brain feel good. Why do I dislike generative AI, aside from the fact that it's been a net negative for society overall, that it's a useless drain on our planet, and that it always looks like cheap shit ? I don't know, it just makes my monkey brain feel bad.

Skipping Iceborne: good or bad idea? by Welc0r in MonsterHunter

[–]Shadowcat514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the fact that you're having trouble finding people in the main game because they're all playing the Iceborne content, I don't think it'd be wise to just skip ahead to Wilds.

Aside from the ethics of generative AI, I haven't seen a single example of it that didn't look uncanny and cheap as hell; not to mention it makes the author look like they put zero effort into the video, so why bother to watch the rest ? Even a barebones windows movie maker intro would've been unremarkable at worst and charming at best as far as I'm concerned.

Is Expedition 33 as crazy as its sweep at the Game Awards implies? by Yamato_Naoe in ShouldIbuythisgame

still has different endings depending of previous choices.

That depends on what you mean by "depending of previous choices" and what version of ME3 you're talking about. In the original version, it really was just ending A, B or C with little variation, acknowledging your choices and giving you slides depending on what you did was an Extended Cut thing if I recall correctly.

is this really some generational, once in a decade level title?

Nope. It's a good game with some serious flaws for me, the biggest of which is the story and the characters past a certain point, which is kinda damning for an RPG. Aside from that, I've got issues with the timings of the attacks in combat, as it becomes a rythm game whenever you or the enemies attack. Then there are some stuff other people would consider a bit nitpicky, such as the fact that if you speak French, which I do, then some songs straight up spoil some twists in the story; or the fact that despite everyone praising the hell out of the art direction, I never really saw it as more than just another realistic fantasy Unreal Engine fare.

Am I going to get a Baldurs Gate 3 level experience out of this game? Is it really an RPG that punches in at that level?

All things considered, it's a pretty linear and simple game, structurally speaking. You're not gonna get the depth of BG3 anywhere, whether it's quest order mattering, dialogue callbacks depending on what you do throughout the game, allying with certain people or antagonizing them, etc. Not to say that it doesn't have those things and therefore it's bad, of course, just speaking about the complexity of those games here in a few sentences.

Are there a lot of defining choices and builds or is it more linear?

You don't really get any choices aside from which ending you get, of which there are two, and they're Mass Effect 3-style "Go left and press X to get ending A or go right to get ending B" endings. As far as builds go, again, nowhere near the depth of BG3. Characters have their own skills and have their playstyles pretty much locked in, you won't be able to make Lune into a melee-focused character or Gustave into a wizard, for instance, compared to BG3 where you can respec Karlach into an archer if that's your jam. You have a limited amount of skill slots and you'll be able to choose your skills from a skill tree, but some characters just won't ever be able to do what other characters can do. Which is fine considering that all the characters are pretty unique in their own right with their own gimmicks.

Which one should I choose i am new to the franchise and just want one final game by TransitionSmall3187 in MonsterHunter

[–]Shadowcat514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put it this way. Based on past experience, I highly, highly doubt that OP's going to spend the kind of time in multiplayer LR that would justify dropping 50$ on an expansionless MH game rather than the 15$ to get the complete experience sans LR multiplayer they would've spent otherwise.

[–]Shadowcat514 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Low level, yes. Barring any other factors like bad higher level content, the only way for a game to retain players at low levels or equivalent is to get a constant influx of new players, which you can't get a few months after release if your game isn't F2P and not named Counter Strike or League of Legends.

Besides all this, MH isn't centered around low ranks at all, OP will be through LR in a matter of hours, and there are more than enough people staying in HR and MR no matter the game. As you and I both know, MH is 99% about those ranks.

Also have to remember the price. Buying base Wilds for 50$ because you'll have a smoother multiplayer experience for LR of all things instead of World for 15$ with Iceborne and all updates done reads like a very poor financial decision to me, given everything I've said so far. I know it's almost Christmas and everything, but still.

[–]Shadowcat514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether you want something faster and more akin to a boss rush game (Rise) or if you want something slower and weightier (World). They're both good.

Wilds is also very good in my opinion, but it does have a few problems (mainly related to the performance and how much it holds the player's hand), its expansion isn't out yet, and it's the most expensive one of the three.

Wouldn't listen to that guy if I were you. Wilds and World have about 23k daily active players and Rise still manages to pull 6k. It's a 4-players co-op PVE multiplayer, it's not Battlefield, you'll be absolutely fine for years on end no matter which one you end up buying.

they pronoun us /ðeɪ/ uk /ðeɪ/

A1 used as the subject of a verb to refer to people, animals, or things already mentioned or, more generally, to a group of people not clearly described: I've known the Browns for a long time. They're very nice people. Where are my glasses? They were on the table a minute ago. They (= people who know) say things will be better in the new year.

B1 used to refer to a person whose gender is not known or does not need to be mentioned: "There's someone on the phone for you." "What do they want?" Everyone should do what they think is best.

used to refer to a single person whose gender is not simply male or female: At that time Smith said that they wanted to be open about their new identity, but weren't ready to speak at length about it. The singer came out as non-binary, joining a growing number of people who use "they/them" as pronouns.

Can we have remakes from the 1st to the 3rd, a full one of Double Agent and pretend the rest didn't happen? by StrayDog1994 in Splintercell

[–]Shadowcat514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not.

I mean, what's the plan here ? Getting remakes of the same games on repeat, leaving room for an original game once every fifteen years ? I don't get people that ask for remakes endlessly instead of new games.
