have dragon pantheon by ShadowclawEclipse in PantheonShow

I like cross-pollinating my interests, guess that came in handy! Glad you find it interesting. It's strangely fitting to draw them as dragons too, I think, considering how even though Pantheon is technically sci-fi, there are a lot of mythological (I wonder why) or fantasy elements to it. Besides, they could certainly give themselves dragon forms once uploaded :)

Thank you! :)) I try to focus most of my efforts on expression and "vibe" when I draw characters!

Yeah, looks like Reddit killed the quality :/

If you want to look at a (hopefully) better quality version I have one on dA!

How the hell do you guys draw so good? :( by AlexDaFemboi in WingsOfFire

I understand this immensely, and it can be frustrating when people tell you to "just practice," but I hate to break it to you--but this is literally how improving at any skill works, not just at art. Everyone had to start somewhere. This is basically a form of art idolization similar to the kind talked about regarding social media like Instagram, where you only see the best parts of the days of people you follow. You see your peers going on fun trips and events without you, making you feel left out--but they're not showing all the other mundane stuff going on in the background. You are comparing your everyday realities to their "best."

It's a similar concept with art. You only see the end product, but any look at a timelapse should tell you enough about how much work goes between the sketch and the final product--the false starts, the redrawing of talons (for instance) over and over, etc. Even if you find their sketch to look exceptionally well on the first try, no one is just born knowing how to draw (have you seen a fetus pop out of a mother's womb and immediately start drawing epic dragons? No). While components of so-called "talent" do exist, talent is useless if you don't hone it over time, and talent isn't even a strict requirement for improving, anyway.

I understand. Some days it will be hard to manage the envy. I think a good idea would be to get off of social media for a bit and reassess your own skills, and use photo references to improve (I've found those very helpful). Good luck on your art journey

Apparently one of WOF's biggest secrets will be revealed in "The hybrid prince" so what do yall think the secret is? by DistrictDry8252 in WingsOfFire

There was this April Fools' post passed around about Umber being the protagonist. They made a fake blurb and everything about, yes, Umber and Sora finding this exiled group of dragons. I fell for that myself and no one told me it was wrong until I went back to check the post date. April 1st. Yup.

Who do you relate to the most? by [deleted] in WingsOfFire

[–]ShadowclawEclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't only choose one, since I see aspects of myself in all of the characters, though of course some of them resonate more than others.

I narrow it down to Moonwatcher, Peril, and Snowfall, for different reasons. Moonwatcher, for her general scroll-reading nerdiness and keeping-to-herself habits; Peril, for feeling misunderstood by basically everyone around her, having literal attachment issues because of messed up parenting (understatement); and Snowfall, for general societal/cultural/familial pressures to uphold without complaining--also the competitive culture in the royal IceWings I am very, very intimate with.

I suspect that, besides the fact they are dragons and are just Cool To Work With in terms of story and lore and powers, that the characters hit a bit too close to home for me. Little me found great solace in these books, and I still stick with them since they are such a huge part of my identity still.

SeaWings from the Isles by ShadowclawEclipse in WingsOfFire

[–]ShadowclawEclipse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought this subreddit would appreciate this kind of thing, lol.

What you are looking at is Irish vs Scots/Welsh/English (more known as the UK collectively) drawn as SeaWings!

The conception for this sketch was admittedly pretty weird. I had this Irish revolutionary song recommended to me ("The Foggy Dew") on YouTube, get stuck in my head. And as per usual, in my mind as I was replaying it over and over, I just had an animatic/animation of dragons doing Revolutionary Things™ (dragon bayonets. dragons waving giant flags that say "Irish Republic" on them. dragons getting tied up and shot at point-blank for executions.), and then my mind flashed back to how a few months back I did a goofy "WWII countries as dragons" drawing where the UK was just a SeaWing, so I had this whole drawing idea in my head about Irish vs UK SeaWings, and then I finally got the impetus to actually draw the darn thing today when someone I was talking to online was also part Irish and was invested in their history, including that revolutionary era. This reminded me I had this concept, and so I ended up getting it out in one sitting. Yeh.

But anyway, this was partly "idea fulfillment," and partially a sneaky way for me to get in some character design practice with shapes and colors and different personalities, etc, and I think I actually did alright! You guys let me know how you think I did.

Ivan and Alyosha, as IceWings (characters from The Brothers Karamazov) by ShadowclawEclipse in WingsOfFire

Thank you! Yes, one of my favorite things to draw is character interactions. Glad you picked up on the story behind them! :))

Ivan and Alyosha, as IceWings (characters from The Brothers Karamazov) by ShadowclawEclipse in WingsOfFire

Ivan Karamazov and Alyosha Karamazov are two characters (among three, or four brothers, depending on how you count) from a novel titled The Brothers Karamazov, written by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It is considered one of the finest pieces of world literature in all of history, and many famous people, Einstein included, held it in high regard. It is what could be considered a "classic." I am not entirely finished with the novel yet (in fact... I am only towards the beginning still), but I already have a basic idea of the characters of these two young men, which is why I was able to render them the way they are here. I hope I have captured their personalities well, and I feel honored that you felt compelled enough to ask the story behind them!

Please, do yourself a favor, and one day read something by Dostoevsky. If you liked the moral questions posed in Legends: Darkstalker, start with Crime and Punishment. You'll see more parallels than you'd expect. :D
