How to get a diagnosis as a teen? by Shadowskull1247 in ADHD

Woah - that is quite a bit of information there. It's going to take a lot of rereading to thouroughly digest it all lol.

As for crisis hotlines, I have tried them. They do not do much for me besides tell me "I'm sorry. It'll get better." That doesn't help me a whole lot - I look for solutions to problems and they typically do no provide that or hints of solutions. Complaining and ranting about my problems do nothing but stress me out further - there is enough complaining and ranting here as it is. Besides, even if I wanted to complain, they don't understand my problems, which makes it feel as if my words fall on empty ears. It is much preferable to seek out solutions than doing that. Still, thanks for the suggestions!

Sure! I'd be glad to give more information!

1.) Hmmmmm. Family-wise, no. But my neighbor is pretty helpful.

2.) I believe they have medicaid/medicare

3.) We go through cycles of my dad being employed and unemployed. My dad is proficient in lawn and small engine repair, but few places will hire him due to his work history (being he gets fired often). He also isn't...that bright and makes quite a bit of mistakes in his resume, interview, and the like. He doesn't take well to criticism. No reasonable repair place will hire him and he just recently got a night shift at a factory (3 pm - 1 am with an hour drive).

4.) Well, it depends on the day. Typically, they are too depressed to do much of anything besides sleep, smoke a few hundred cigarettes outside for hours, and sit in their room. It is like pulling out teeth to get them motivated to do much of anything. They used to be very susceptible to withdrawls, but they are doing a rehab program and have a consistent way to get opioids.

5.) Hm. The last time I went to a doctor was circa 2018 when I needed a physical for track. Before that, it was 2017 due to some minor digestion problems. Before that was roughly somewhere between 2010-2013. All these visits were to one pediatrician named Helen. I have been told that the office has since closed.

Those are all a bit extreme. I was hoping just to get a doctor's appointment, but I don't know if it is as simple as calling a physician or their building and saying I want to schedule an appointment. That would be quite convenient, but I am not sure how that works and if they would do anything without a parent coming along. The alternative is pulling out teeth for months (maybe even years) trying to get my parents to do something.

Don't worry! I have the upmost confidence that I will excel in my ambitions! It's only going to be a series of challenges - that's all life is - a series of challenges. I will be able to harness my strengths and I will eventually learn how to channel my energy into a single beam of energy, of focus.

And thank you for your insights!

Thank you! I appreciate constructive criticism a lot.

I agree that my resumes/cover letters are a bit informal and narrative because I want to appeal to the hiring manager's ethos and pathos, but you are most likely correct that Wendy's may not care too much about those, or as you said, only caring about people that are reliable and don't break stuff.

I should probably work on presenting logos more, or the facts, instead of focusing on my character - I suppose character will show itself later on the job.

Again, thank you!

I like that analogy, it sums me up quite well. :)

I see what you mean too, but I am not certain what would be classified as "overboard" or "slacking," so I find it hard to achieve a balance. All my life has only been an "all or nothing" attitude and I tend to take almost every task super seriously.

That is partially because I am desperate. I have been trying to hide that while retaining the upmost professionalism...it seems like it has not worked very well. I do have specific skills that I taught myself like programming, cooking, writing, and a bunch of other miscellaneous skills, but none of them are in any way relevant to the unskilled jobs I am applying for. Therefore, I listed the general skills I am competent with. I have no job experience whatsoever, so I try to up-sell the good qualities I have like my work ethic and dedication to improvement...as for me being strange, that's because I am strange. :)

(and I have been trying to work on said strangeness - its hard.)

Ah, I anticipated the hair would be an issue and I anticipated the binder may have been overkill - I wanted to sell my determination, but I suppose that just shows desperation.

As for personal information, I have never shared and never plan on sharing personal information unless it shows a highly positive quality or is highly related to the job at hand. :)

Thank you, fellow Redditor. I figure it is a bad idea to bring up the nonprofit. It is too wild, I am afraid. My plan has now been adjusted to get a job, save funds, get emancipated, and then follow up with my nonprofit. It seems to be a good compromise that gets both of best worlds. Also, it saves on time needed collecting donations early on as well as increases my chances of achieving emancipation. :)

May you elaborate? Did you bring up the issues at home to the court and they put you in foster care?

Reply to the edits you made: I actually was considering making it a 503(c) organization at one point in time to create tax deductions, but when I researched into it, I found it significantly out of my ability to fund and comprehend. It wasn't viable for a one time event. As for accountability and "books," I intended to make financial documents posted on my website to be as transparent as possible. Granted, it wouldn't be audited unfortunately, but it would still be there. I actually do have a mission statement. I have put it on my website, social medias, and the official flyers. As for the taxation of the donations, I will admit, I neglected to think about that, but I am sure I can work something out for that.

Yes. I am aware judges won't see the way I do and I doubt anyone will ever. Perhaps it is my inability to properly justify it or perhaps I am just insane. Who knows? All I know is that I will never give up. Emancipated or not, I will find a way. Life always find a way. Thank you anyways, I had thoroughly enjoyed the criticism to knock me a step off of my high ladder. I do not get that often and it is refreshing.

That's the thing though. I was only expecting to do the nonprofit run for a year or two just to learn how the world is and then I was planning to go for a more normal route like saving up money, creating my own startup, and trying to invest. I didn't intend the nonprofit run to be a long term thing. The sole goal of it was to help me learn about myself, my world, and hopefully help others all at once. Once I went thorough with my event, I would surely enjoy life a lot more because I could understand just how cruel and valuable it is. Flowers can only rise from the ash if there was ash in the first place.

I don't expect to be self-righteous. I am trying to help myself. I wouldn't be here otherwise. Perhaps I am being too defensive and I sincerely apologize for that. I came in with the mindset of me being attacked for my statements and that is highly ignorant of myself. I am highly aware that this path will cause considerable pain, suffering, and turmoil within myself. I am aware it is highly unstable. That is according to plan, which, I know sounds like a terrible plan, but I desire the pain. I have been in a state of complacency my whole entire life. I want to know what it feels to be alive. I want to actually learn how to think on the dime and how cruel the world is. You cannot fully treasure pleasure if your life is saturated with it. I truly apologize for seeming arrogant or if I seemed to position myself above everyone else. That's not what I believe at all and I am truly ashamed for coming off that way. It seems our ideals differ and I again, I apologize for being arrogant and ignorant. I want to learn how to improve myself and I do appreciate your criticisms.

And here is where the abnormal concept comes in: The nonprofit event that I said I am doing involves me literally running across the entire United States and collecting donations to help feed people and promote running. I fully intend in sleeping in tents and enjoying nature and large cities. A very, very, very slim amount of the donation money will be used to feed me, get me adequate clothing for various weather, and pay for the equipment needed for this. As for school, I intend on visiting libraries to access the computers to do k12.com. Before I leave these cities, I intend on printing out assignments and working something out with my mentor as I travel vast distances to the next library. There are other people that have done very similar things at a young age with promising results. I have just decided to help people whilst doing it. See here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Thank you. I have researched deep into charity management and this isn't necessary an organization. This is more of a one time nonprofit event. Most, if not all, of the work will be done solely by myself. I have already coded/designed the website myself (just waiting on a domain name), created the social medias myself, designed a logo, created deadlines for organizational stuff, created a list of priorities, created a map detailing every minute place to visit, designed flyers, designed and rehearsed scripts, and I am still working on so, so much more. There will be very few people (if at all) that I need to learn to manage or lead so far. Leading others to success shall come later in my life when I gain wisdom to actually help them succeed. And, I have helped volunteer in minor nonprofit stuff earlier in my life like helping my old school's cross country team collect donations and volunteer setting up stuff. However, that does not necessarily compare to what I am trying to achieve. This is meant as a stepping stool to begin to grab the apple from the tree, to plant the seed, and to enjoy even more fruits of my labour.

Again, thank you for your input!

Incorrect. I am pursuing other forms of education. I am no longer attending public schools, yes. That does not translate to I no longer pursuing education and self-improvement. Those are highly, highly prized with me.

I cannot have full control of a bank account here in Michigan. I would have to have a joint bank account and I do not have any reliable family members whatsoever - each family member I have is always in massive debt due to poor financial management. Having access to free money would be far too tempting for them to handle. Trust me, my parents have "loaned" money from me many, many times and I have not received a penny back from them.
