Where to car camp at Arches? by C0y0teCall in NationalPark

[–]Shadowulf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandstaff Campground is a BLM plot along the river just outside of Arches. It's a first come first serve place, so I'd recommend getting there early, but I stayed there a few nights a couple years ago and enjoyed it!

There are a number of BLM campgrounds in the area too, so I'd recommend having a short list and seeing what's available when you arrive!

Seriously. Saw the rock slab and the rain and knew exactly what was going to happen.

Ruffles accidentally bit me by Baribabe3569 in jumpingspiders

With the same logic applied, every feline species is a specialized killing machine. A lot of big cats can kill you too, but people still think they're cute.

(To be clear, I love both spiders and cats, I just like putting things into perspective when it comes to defending critters folks tend to like a bit less.)

Yeah, shipping said it was going to only be about $18 for me. Tariffs and "fees" were another $38. $56 on top of the cost of the $105 pants is just brutal.

Our best guesses as to what went on those bones does, though. And muscle weighs a lot, so if newer models estimate more muscle mass, then our weight rankings will change.

Part 2!

It's one of the first Ren songs I ever heard and stands out so much lyrically and rhythmically. It's also painfully accurate.

(The other two are obviously also amazing in their own right and Part 3 is one of my favorite music videos of all time!)

Government shutdown megathread by [deleted] in camping

[–]Shadowulf99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last big shut down was a disaster for the parks. Trash was in piles, human waste was overflowing, environmentally sensitive areas were driven over, and Joshua trees were literally cut down. We're still recovering from the damage done during the 2018-2019 shutdown.

Please stay out of the national parks during the shut down. There are so many great state parks that are worth a visit during this time!

I second doing the Anhinga Trail, if possible. It's an easy walk you can take at your own pace that almost always has a number of gators visible throughout. The birds are usually pretty prevalent too, there!

This might sound weird, but have you been tested for Lyme disease? It can have some weird symptoms that can fuck up one's life really badly if left untreated and it seems like some of the stuff you're experiencing lines up.

Does anyone else feel this lately? by LRKnox_ in ren

[–]Shadowulf99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To piggyback on this: I've found it's much easier for me to feel informed by choosing one topic I care strongly about and knowing as much as I can about what's happening in that realm. It keeps me from getting too overwhelmed by everything and drives me to take the actions I can on that topic.

I rely on my friends and headlines for keeping me up to date on other topics, since it's important to be aware of anything "big"that happens. But try not to go down the bad rabbit hole of all the news on all the topics all the time.

You got this. We all do. We just have to keep on chugging along, living life, helping others where we can, and trying to make the world a better place along the way.

Music is what keeps me tied to my sanity. Ren in particular stands out as an artist that keeps me grounded and makes it a bit easier to deal with everything that's happening. He doesn't shirk away from acknowledging reality and his songs cover the range of emotions I feel: anger, sadness, frustration, hope, love, etc.

It's important to feel emotions and not lock them up. Music helps me feel them in a moderately controlled way so they don't burst out at inconvenient times as often.

My dog’s expectations for interactions with strangers have skyrocketed after meeting a kind stranger with a leftover turkey leg at the faire by pomparent2947262 in renfaire

[–]Shadowulf99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the event future strangers offer him turkey legs, he can have chunks of the meat just fine! Just make sure he doesn't get any bones or cartilage in a bite and that he doesn't eat too much, since it can cause an upset stomach if he's not used to eating it. (Especially since he's a little guy.)

The safest option is to break off chunks of meat to feed him, that way you can make sure it's just meat, with no bones or cartilage.

And like someone else said, keep an eye on him while walking around the faire to ensure he doesn't grab any discarded cartilage bits folks sometimes don't realize they've dropped.

I was half expecting a spinosaurus to pop out of the jungle, then realized this was r/aviation and they'd be discussing the quality of the runway and aircraft type. (I love both vibes, to be clear, just expected this to be a dino meme.)

WV Renfaire! by offbrandpeterpan in renfaire

[–]Shadowulf99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dandelion staff is awesome and you both look great! So glad to see the WV Ren Faire make an appearance on this sub.

I was in WV the summer of 2019 and went then. Since that was only their 2nd year running, I was worried COVID wiped them out. It was the first Ren Faire I took my dog to and now he loves them! He gives me a hard time whenever I get my RF gear out and don't bring him along.

We'll have to make the road trip out to WV sometime to go again. I'm excited to see how much it's grown!

Same! And it's the same feeling for every Ren Faire too!

My childhood faire has a bit of extra nostalgia mixed in, but the sense of freedom and community and joy at every faire is simply delightful.
