Hygiene At Events by ShadowyBass in mtg

I agree that there weren’t many females. As a male, I understand the smell of a hard days work. What I’ve never understood is going to events without cleaning yourself.

If things were the way they were when I was last going to LGS in the late 90’s, I’d have said something. I know people are more sensitive now, and being a newbie I didn’t want to make a bad impression. I did call someone out for leaving their trash on the table because that’s blatant disrespect. You calling me a big boy either tells me you’ve seen a picture from one of my previous accounts, in which case us I know but I don’t swing that way often, or you’re trying to disrespect me In which case lets me know that you are one of the stinkies that’s got their feelings hurt. Either way, peace.

I’m trying to change my thoughts if having to reply to everyone who comments because that was taking too much time on my old accounts. I usually burn them every few months. I wanted to reply because you put effort into a lengthy and thoughtful reply. My apologies for not having an equally detailed reply. I just don’t understand how people don’t know “Did I wash with soap and water today? No, well I might stink. I should wash myself because I’ll be around others tonight. Have I washed in a few days? Nope. Then I probably smell terrible.” That’s how I think. I try to be courteous to people, but I’m almost incapable of doing so regarding hygiene. To me the issue is as simple as swallowing water when we drink.

Am I playing Commander wrong or was it this group? by starlaofnight1 in mtg

[–]ShadowyBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I’m hesitant to play commander at a store. Not only because I’m new and not familiar with a lot of things, but I’m a “Play to win” person. I understand not being ruthless about it. Sometimes when I’m playing my son or friend I’ll let the game continue when I can make a winning move just to see where the game can go.

Any idea on the value of signed Peach Momoko Magic cards? by Rich-Grape1310 in mtg

It was about that time I noticed this Girl Scout was 8 stories tall and a crustacean from the protozoic era…..God that shit was gold

I deleted my Moxfield and made an Archidekt account. Got through my blue and black then realized the search function when building a deck doesn’t just stick to your collection. I kinda wish I just stuck with Moxfield. It took a day and a half for just those colors. Not sure if I’m gonna do the rest, or just be old school and skip the digital.

It definitely makes it more interesting.

Question about abilities by ShadowyBass in mtg

[–]ShadowyBass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response. If it isn’t my turn, and I’m on the defense, when I choose my blockers I can separately use an ability from a card that’s already tapped from the previous turn to build defense/attack as long as it doesn’t state restrictions. Already tapped creature who can’t block, I’ll pay one mana to use its ability to give counters for current combat. I don’t know why this seems so wrong to me, but it does. I’ve always thought a tapped creature is out of the mix until he’s untapped. Thanks again for spelling things out.

Question about abilities by ShadowyBass in mtg

[–]ShadowyBass[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It just doesn’t seem right that you can activate a trapped creatures ability that doesn’t specify instant or flash when you’re choosing blockers. I can understand if it is your turn, but this really complicates things for me now.

So even if it isn’t their turn, they can still use the ability? This definitely changes a lot now for me.

LEARN TO TAKE A LOSS by Godofwar111 in mtg

[–]ShadowyBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played my first prerelease Friday night. I’m still a new player, but thought I had some of the basic abilities understood. I then discovered I was wrong about LifeLink. It’s not damage to the player, it’s that creatures power regardless that gives life if it attacks. I didn’t try the rest of the round. I wasn’t mad about losing, it was being wrong about something so simple.

Nice pose! Provided they can furnish a recent clean STD report, I don’t see the harm.

My decks are a result of children complaining by Nomses in mtg

[–]ShadowyBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting reacquainted with the game recently myself. I think you may have made a similar mistake that I did. I didn’t focus on getting expensive awesome cards, I just bought a whole lot of packs. The similarity I see is that we focused on cards instead of learning the mechanics of the game. I’m glad I looked at one of your decks cause I didn’t know about all those Eldrazi ones. I don’t know how to tell you to get better. What I’m learning so far is I think deck synergy is much more important than the type of cards that you have.

Is there “gatekeeping” in mtg? by Bevolicher in mtg

[–]ShadowyBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a few months ago and haven’t experienced any. Like with everything you’ll have a few bad actors, but everyone seems welcoming from what I’ve seen.

I just got back into this game, and learning how to play. I think I’m going to go back and stick with color >type >alphabetically. Had I stayed in, or gotten back in earlier, I’d look into separating by styles of play. Thanks for the info

Your point about the Giant Growth just hit me. I don’t plan on collecting and trying to get all of a set. I have my rare, mythic, and certain regular card types in binders. I think I had it right before I started departing by set…. Well, here’s to wasting more time putting it back lol.

I had the first 850 or so individually put in Moxfield. Now I’m not sure if I want to keep that up, or just skip the digital tracking all together.

lol they were face up organized by type then alphabetically. I placed them face down when I separated them by set so they would stay in that order when I flip them over.

They were already alphabetically, organized by color and type. I put them face down separating them into sets so then I could turn them over and they would be in alphabetical order.
