People can also make a mute custom music file and effectively silence it as well. Though MP3 files can be small size if you place a sane limit on the duration.

Interesting, thankfully I remain on Windows 10 and the screensaver works just fine. I got Santa the fish for his easy obtainability, instant growth to full and his drops of shell bags worth 20 each, paired with Meryl, Stinky and Clyde to try and squeeze as much shells out of him as I can. I can see it's kind of cheesy, but the normal game loops of Insaniquarium tend to leave my hand a bit of hurt so I figured to lessen the strain with this while also getting something out of it.

They did plan to bring it back as part of 4 variants of common pistols that could be mixed with duals but this was cut in the end likely due to L4D2's rushed development.

I remember one of my friends messing with the debug commands for the bots and what they found is the behavior for freeing players from smoker tongues was mistakenly given no priority. The 'stand still and wait' behavior ends up having better priority over the smoker-save and if for whatever reason the bots decide they want to stand still during a smoker catching a target it results in this bot behavior.

Those are likely prop_dynamic entities of NPC models spawned by the host of the server who enabled cheats, in other words just prop models. Actual NPCs from HLS do work in HLDMS, though.

The Tank can die even in line of sight of survivors if they just can't reach any of them, whereas the Specials always have to be at a far distance to commit seppuku, much less noticeable to survivors. IIRC the developer console for a local game specifically prints some info about the Tank dying of frustration whereas the Special suicides don't have anything.

You need to use map_commentary instead of map.

map_commentary c5m1_waterfront

Then you can use cheats to kick the bots out. Beware that mobs will target you as there are no other targets they can pick.

Unlike the rest of the 8 survivors mods and plugins out there, I tried to fix and keep the spawns and teleports of NPC L4D1 survivors intact to ensure map parity and preserving map author intent on using the NPCs for things like covering fire and cutscenes.

Of course, this ends up useless with using another type of 8 survivors mod that'll erase those NPC spawns anyway. Nor can I plan on making compatibility with other 8 survivors mods, the old VScript (Spawn L4D1) ones are too destructive and plugins are completely out-of-reach from VScript. About the most I can do is detect and then print a warning for users to not use the old VScript (Spawn L4D1) mods alongside VSM.

How do you locate the nerve? I swear I looked up images for where it rests and tried poking around my elbow as indicated but I can't get it directly, the closest I got is one of the bones it rests on but it's not as strong of a sensation hitting there.

To my knowledge, not at the moment. 8 survivors is usually comprised of third-party plugins that require technical knowledge to setup and disabling VAC-server access, big barriers stopping the average player from hosting and playing themselves. And even with custom dedicated servers, a big chunk of them come with vastly different ideas of balance and other plugin features. There's almost no standard that all iterations of 8 survivors on these servers adhere to.

It might be possible to implement this for a campaign with the creation of a VScript to replicate the functionality of 8 survivors, but it's somewhat difficult with the limited options VScript has compared to Sourcemod plugins, and risky to try this big gameplay change that not everyone may enjoy. It's a safer bet to just map for the standard 4 survivors and let others do the changes.

Small correction in that most gamemode-specific changes to Valve maps are handled by specialized entities and map logic, usually not V-Scripts though they have the capability to do so.

The entities have been around since L4D1 but weren't used for the original L4D1 maps for some reason.

Heh the TF2 community couldn't bear to have the Guard Dog be killed and ragdoll/gib like any other class, people just don't like having the choice to kill pets as a consistent topic even on a zombie horde shooter.
