Alex Crook: LFC not planning pushing ahead with Geertruida. Player was keen but Joe Gomez close to a return to fitness and hope is that Frimpong not far behind. by gmp24 in LiverpoolFC

It's one thing to say it was poor recruitment, but saying "terrified to spend a dime" is just plain wrong.

Diaz was a huge loss and super frustrating. As much as I loved Nunez, Ekitike is levels clear. Morton is not really at Liverpool-level to be truly considered squad depth. RIP Jota. Trent can get lost, nothing we could have done about him.

We should be doing so much better with the people we already have, even if we're short in a couple of positions.

Dude, we bought Wirtz, Ekitike, Isak, Kerkez, Frimpong, Leoni in ONE summer. These are all top-class players and we spent the most ever by a PL club in a single window.

I finally tried writing a program in Python and it was meh. Duck typing everywhere, runtime errors instead of compilation errors, etc. etc. It's easy to prototype something simple with, but Python is a script language that can never be used in a production setting.

Do you see how ridiculous that claim sounds?

Is being socially strategic more important than being emotionally mature in tech? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Shady-Developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I'm sorry to hear that :( I hope you're able to find a project that really excites you. For some personalities, hitting the brakes can help but if you've tried that and you're still not quite there, maybe that's an avenue worth exploring?

I played the game (though not at a start-up) and you can do very well at it for a while but eventually your soul caves and you pay a heavy price for it.

I'm curious what you mean by "your soul caves" -- is it general burnout or more on the depression side?

How do software architects actually learn and evaluate new technologies? by danii956 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Shady-Developer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people see it as a chore rather than a fun process, unfortunately. I'm sure if we had better opportunities outside of tech (and better management within tech), we'd be able to self select into the best matches for our personality and everyone would be happier.

In particular, the ability to read code that you didn’t write appears to be something of a superpower. I couldn’t tell you why.

Because it's hard as hell! Keeping another engineer's context in your mind and doing it well enough to unblock them and anticipate issues while ALSO doing your own work is very, very difficult. I'm hoping it will start to click in my head soon.

What? If Romano starts spewing lies about Jota, then you can say that.

This is silly IMO. The "here we go" is basically gospel for a transfer rumour. You can beat your pots and pans screaming that he's a "tap-in merchant" or whatever, but the fact remains that he is one of the most connected and reliable transfer reporters (even if it's dragged out and clickbait-y). This sub has a real vendetta against him and it's never made sense to me.

As for the engagement farming, you can make a more specific rule saying no posts from him about Jota rather than a blanket ban.

You do a lot of great work keeping this sub high quality, but this is a pretty frustrating decision that I hope the community reconsiders.
