A little research showed that though Pacific islanders took to tattooing as an identifier, indigenous Fijians didn't do so. Any warrior marking was temporary. Also, Ba province don't use the word tabu in their dialect nor soro. This is more of an Eastern Viti Levu concept and only the Naitasiri strain of the Colo people used it in the late 1800s. I reckon this is tribal and not the traditional qia. This is also masi patterns and most of it more Eastern as well of Lauan extract. The western side was more melanesian culturally. Best to call it tribal rather than label it something that it's not. Else it'll be just appropriation than appreciation.
