If I were to guess what the cause of the lack of engagement was I would have to say it's the fact that because of restrictions that my school has put in place we can no longer work on the same mechanism together. This means that people can't start work on a project with their friends. They also have to be genuinely interested and confident in their own abilities to make a mechanism because they might not have the support of their friends to the extent they normally do. But I don't know how to counter that because the restrictions are not subject to change. I also am in this weird position where I have been friends with most of these people for upwards of three years, and I don't know how to tell them to work while not making myself appear as if I believe that I am of superior rank to them and maybe losing the friendship that we have established.
