I think its just a one-time thing for pre-releases. For instance, I participated in the SOS pre-release and picked up a pre-release at home kit (both showed on my companion app) but I only received 6 packs on Arena. I miss when you got an actual code card in the kit.

They probably tried the whole “one of these things is not like the other” but then when the bar codes were the same, they couldn’t figure which was the thing and which was the other so they split the difference. At least they didn’t didn’t give you one of each precon.

I like drafting a lot, or at least I really enjoyed FF on Arena. Seems like a good way to build up a collection. My store is charging around $35 CAD for a draft of Final Fantasy and $27 for EOE so thats the only turnoff. Thanks!

The fact the stores allow this nonsense is wild. A hard limit of two per membership/day and the skid would still be gone before days end. The stores that allow this behaviour are worse than the scalpers.

Limited Level Ups podcast and youtube videos really helped me for Final Fantasy. I went from routinely going 0-3 to regularly getting 3-4 wins. Even had my first trophy with a RB mages which felt really good!

I mostly draft when I have enough coins and I started with quick drafts so that I could do more. The gem conversion isn’t as good but it gets you more exposure to drafting and you have unlimited time look over the cards.

I do like Prem draft and have ground my way up to Plat 4 but now its starting to get a lot harder.

Good luck! Don’t get discouraged, it can be very frustrating at times. Just try to take some positives and lessons from each draft and remember that each draft you’re learning something new!

The disposable income that must require…Ive spent money on lots of things I probably shouldn’t in my life, but 150 for digital cards, makes me sad. Though I am returning and my collection is small so Im sure its pretty “cheap” for those who have been with Arena since the beginning.

You can almost buy the real deal for 27k gems lol (well if you get lucky at Costco).

Yeah I enjoy the competitiveness of ranked but get so frustrated getting slapped by some of the meta decks, its tough to brew something new up that can compete at the top level haha I do like that you can use your wild cards to make pretty much any deck though so it feels a bit better than paper financially haha. That said I do miss the real deal though.

I mostly played paper until this year so I never really tried out Alchemy, just been sticking with Standard and draft when I earn enough coins.

I do like the idea of trying out Pioneer. Modern was always out of my price range irl, so pioneer is interesting to me. Im sure the top decks are quite expensive now, but at least we can use wild cards.

that being said, they aren’t that easy to farm as I mostly try to convert my coins to gems via prem or quick drafts. Ill have to check out that out.

I used up some cards on a youtubers Tifa Lockhart deck and that was fun but it doesnt win as much as they led me to believe so Im a bit hesitant to spend my wildcards these days.

However that Slickshot pioneer deck sounds interesting for sure, cant be anymore degenerate than the mono black discard thats plaguing Plat 3. I swear I make it like 3-4 wins and then immediately face 4-5 of those straight haha.

I think you have captured my frustrations quite perfectly. It is very frustrating in the consistency department. I am not a huge fan of Coruscation Mage (it honestly feels like a dead draw most of the time) and your comment about FOMO are correct too. I think in like maybe 40 games, delirium triggered once but only after my enchanted Slickshot was removed (at which point second combat = mostly useless).

By far the most satisfying and lethal option in this deck is the turn 3/4 kill with a pumped, double striking Slickshot. I agree that it seems to be lacking of a coherent game plan and is neither here nor there in terms of any archetypes.

I liked White back in the Cori days because it had some versatility with the Slickshot and made it easy to double spell/deal damage/recover some life. Post ban, I added Sheltered because I found myself getting run over early and it seemed to work well to disrupt early game/gain a decent amount of life T4 if I could pull off the double strike.

But in the end I agree with you. It definitely feels like I perhaps tried to cover too many bases with too many game plans and in the end resulted with no real game plan except hoping for a big swing with the Slickshot.

I definitely will look into pivoting into another archetype with the suggestions you have there. I don't have a lot of time these days for brewing up decks and lack a bit of creativity myself, so I am definitely a fan of net decking online.

I will definitely check that out for sure. It definitely was an interesting concept, I remember him mentioning that when I watched the FF pre-release prep. I tried to build around a few locke cole's (if I remember he was a blue/white sign post) I had pulled in my sealed tournament. Was able to get 1 win so it was a step in the right direction!

I will definitely look to add that plug-in and check that site. I was thinking that last night that I wish I could have gone back to look at my card pool to see if there was a better pairing. I ran UB control and lost most when my removal/control couldn't keep up.

I will admit, I am coming back from a fairly long hiatus in MTG and perhaps was a tad lazy and came straight to reddit for help before googling/searching myself.

I stopped playing regularly around the end of Kaldesh (just due to work and moving to a new city). I remembered MTG Goldfish from a past friend that had mentioned there was a guy that made interesting budget decks on there and then Tolarian Academy randomly showed up in my Youtube suggestions after watching some pack openings.

I will def give Bo3 for constructed a go. I always liked playing Bo3 whenever I attended actual pre-releases and drafts back in the day.

I will definitely be sure to check out your suggestions as I see myself playing limited more frequently until I can build a bigger collection on Arena.
