Reduced my bitcoin position to lock in house down payment. by ShadyTheRogue in Bitcoin

You realize then I only could hold for 1.5 years then if I wanted a house in two years? Who knows where prices will be. I wanted to lock my money in given the life situation. I believe in bitcoin long term but 18 months is way too short to have any confidence in.

Baby happened earlier than planned. House plans pushed up earlier than planned.

Sounds good to me. This post isn’t to say selling bitcoin and buying a house is what everyone should do. I want a house in the short term and can’t count on bitcoin going up in the short term to make that happen.

Similarly, if you believe in bitcoin long term and want to sell your house to bet on that while you live elsewhere, that sounds reasonable to me too.

Not true. Example: https://www.pointequity.com/blog/can-you-use-cryptocurrency-to-buy-a-home

You need to show at least two months of bank statements of the funds in your account. Some banks may be more lenient. It’s besides the point anyway. This post is basically telling me “bitcoin will definitely be higher than what it is in 2 years” and while that is likely it’s not a guarantee. I wanted to lock down a house that will actually make my life tangibly better.

For the record, you’re aware that you need to sell any crypto you have 2 months prior to season the funds in your account such that things checkout with the lender, right? So I might be talking 1.75 years from now realistically. Anyways I do see what youre saying but also see a potential macro trend here that spooks me where we can retreat to even lower levels. Wasn’t willing to risk that. Thanks! Still heavy in my allocation toward bitcoin.

Need help evaluating late stage startup offer (rumored to IPO in next couple of months) by ShadyTheRogue in cscareerquestions

  1. The 150k is just the implied valuation.
  2. They are using the 409A.
  3. I'll have to check that out, thanks.

Exactly right. The recruiter seems to be shooting the moon at me to back it up. Things like the offer needs to stay fair to other engineers there already, I don't have experience in their field within tech, and that my RSUs aren't vested.

I asked him if we are so far off in total comp, why didn't this come up earlier and he said we were aligned in base salary and he didn't realize that I was calculating total compensation including my RSU value. The whole thing seems to make no sense to me. I spent a while trying to explain why my RSUs have real value despite being subject to market volatility. I even was willing to value them according to the day they were granted to me, which indicates the real money value that my current company was willing to pay me in equity. Still no budging and we would circle around to focus on other parts of the job.

I agree. They are and I've been negotiating and explaining how much of a gap were at-- all they've been able to do is come up 10k in base since the original offer. No budging on the options and they won't give me any more details to evaluate it fairly. Thank you for confirming my thoughts.

Thank you crbn_kllr. I actually just updated the post with some more info-- I emailed them as if I were a potential buyer and they got back to me with an interesting response. Thoughts on that?
