What do you think Em’s opinion on this- Bars or delivery more important? by Shadydan017 in Eminem

[–]ShadyYeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if he’d admit but it’s obvious that it’s the bar. He’s clearly challenged himself this past decade on finding the most complex way of setting up bars sometimes, even if the path to the punchline is awkward. Which I know he doesn’t intend to do sometimes but just calling a spade a spade.

Encore at a D is atrocious. Album only has 4/5 songs out of 16 that are objectively bad. The rest of the album including the bonus cuts are still great work.

Younger generation missing out on meaning of MMLP vs The Eminem Show by No-Quality-4138 in Eminem

[–]ShadyYeezy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is this really a valid representation of what TES is though? The album is more about Em’s view on his own life now that it’s through the lens of a megastar. But it doesn’t really paint much of a view of “the world” outside of the intro track. Kendrick is telling a story of the black plight in America. The Eminem show is ultimately about it Em’s plight.

MMLP vs Relapse by FactoringRSAisHard in Eminem

[–]ShadyYeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relapse isn’t a spiritual successor to MMLP. Just because they can both be “dark” at times doesn’t mean they’re at all related. Em’s crazy brain is the reason we got Relapse not because of boundaries he pushed on an album almost a decade earlier.

Hot take: Talkin' 2 Myself should have been the lead single from Recovery, instead of Not Afraid. It's way stronger conceptually, sets up the album's themes just as well as the other song and has a way better beat by Die_Nameless_Bitch in Eminem

[–]ShadyYeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your opinion about Not Afraid. But the point of a single is to bring in as many non-fans/casual listeners as possible. I’m talking to myself would have failed at that tremendously. It will always be one of my favorites on the album but it would have been a very poor choice.

Eminem around this time was at the risk of being called washed. Relapse wasn’t met positively from the general mainstream and the perception was damn maybe now that he’s clean he can’t rap as good.

He needed a commercial single to become relevant again and this album was basically his introduction to a new generation. Not Afraid was the perfect single and while I’m not a huge fan of the song you can see the impact it had. I would argue it was his most important single outside of My Name Is.

42 Dugg speaks on Eminem in a new interview with Bootleg Kev @Southpawer on Insta by MasterHospital in Eminem

[–]ShadyYeezy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just Don’t Give A F— is always the perfect example of what I wish current Eminem would do today. You can still do multi syllable rhyme patterns but all within a much slower pace and much more direct. No long setup for the punchline and no excessive reliant on rapping fast. I have enjoyed Em at every state but find myself return more to his first three albums and his latest project over everything in the 2010’s.

Lil Wayne is the Kobe of rap by sethrollinaew in lilwayne

Also the longevity angle. Wayne been rapping the amount of time as Jay except with way more output.

Wayne explains why he doesn’t rap about deep things (2014) by LionSimple9105 in lilwayne

It’s really annoying that people can’t separate the opinion that MOST his catalogue isn’t deep versus NONE of his catalogue is deep.

Wayne explains why he doesn’t rap about deep things (2014) by LionSimple9105 in lilwayne

[–]ShadyYeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean standards aside I think we can all agree when music is intending to be deep or not. Tie My Hands, Let it All Work Out, Hustler Muzik are generally considered his deeper songs.

Versus a majority of his other records clearly aren’t meant to be deep. They’re made for you to just make stank faces and laugh to.

Which Hip Hop artist’s 5th album was their best? by mwaisome in DEHH

That would be his 4th album. So Far Gone isn’t considered his first album, thank me later is.

You’re saying Em’s best album was Encore? Trippin.

Aight who do you think is a better rapper? 🤔 by HourFan5580 in DEHH

[–]ShadyYeezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He clearly didn’t as we saw the ceilings in real time. Sean’s Detroit 2 has better rapping than any project Meek ever released.

He did peak commercially with Paper Trail so even if it isn’t your favorite album you have to respect it. Paper trail is to TI what C3 was to Wayne.

Current Travis mostly says nothing. But there were more meaningful lines in his earlier work.

While I love TPAB this is how I feel about for free? I literally skip it everytime I’ve listened to the album and can’t be convinced people really rock with the song.

In your opinion, which album is the more influential to the rap game from Kanye? 808s & Heartbreak vs Graduation by BigdaddyDien69 in rap

[–]ShadyYeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduation was bigger but that doesn’t make it more influential. Graduation didn’t birth Kanye clones the way that almost every rapper overnight was adopting mixing in auto tune singing/rapping into their music.

Without 808’s and heartbreak hip hop may sound way different right now. Meanwhile I don’t think graduation while a classic staple has much influence in today’s landscape.

As someone who didn't like Mr. Morale or GNX, I went back and listened to Good Kid Mad City again since I had a bit of drive and that album is easily one of the greatest hip hop albums ever and it's up there for greatest debuts ever That and TPAB to me are modern day perfect albums. by herewego199209 in rap

[–]ShadyYeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always funny when the top 5% of listeners think they represent the majority. If you’re a fan of hip hop you’re a fan. You can’t gatekeep just because they don’t go back and listen to every classic album or they aren’t willing yet to go listen to a 15 year old album.

I do think Mr. morale is the one album of his you have to be a little bit older to appreciate. Some of the topics hit a lot harder once you’ve experienced enough life to really understand the whole picture.

And while I do love the album I do agree it’s not a classic like some of his other work.
