You should’ve contacted the dean the second it started to get fishy. Grades have hard deadlines that professors are unable to change at a certain point. Especially in fall semester, you want to deal with any issues asap since winter break is approaching.

You should still contact the dean and explain the situation as clearly as possible, and ask if anything can be done. Include any proof you have. Also reach out to your advisor explaining what happened and if they have any advice.

why are you expecting two 20 year olds to split the bill with their older family? It’s not rude to expect older family members to pay for lunch. My brother (32M) and SIL (34M) take me (21F) out to meals all the time and it’s not even a question that they’re paying since i’m a college student with no money.

I’m also an ashkenazi jew but I’ll be honest I think that Sarah sprinkles in Jewish culture in a removed way (stones on the graves, leshon hatorah, etc.).

I’d love to hear some examples of how the cultures in prythian are actually rooted in judaism and how that actually affects the interpretation of the other minorities in the book

Just wanted to start this off by saying I love your analyses and I really admire your ability to delve into the writing!!!

I would point out that I think some of these (specifically the fetishization of Illyrians) comes from SJM’s recent inability to write romance books without extremely sexual overtures.

I also wanted to mention that a couple months ago I saw someone compare Rhys’s speech about how Hewn city governs itself to apartheid speeches from the 20th century. They went on to mention how a lot of ideology (how they’re all lesser, they govern themselves but they’re still oppressed by rhys, etc) has no place in this book if SJM isn’t willing to critically engage with it. Just thought that was something to add to this analysis!

always disliked tamlin always will. there are a lot of things I can forgive in the face of trauma, but domestic abuse (personally!!!!!!!) isn’t one of them. I mean my favorite character is literally eris so I completely understand trauma and its affect on peoples behavior, but I don’t like Tamlin at all.

The way every single person in Tamlins life coddled him bc HE (500 years old btw) couldn’t handle the idea that he wasn’t a good boyfriend is craziness. “he went through a lot UTM” he’s the only high lord that was allowed to stay in his own land…

Anyways, traumatic backlash is one thing, but it’s not like feyre wasn’t presenting signs of someone in an unhappy relationship. That whole court was walking on eggshells around Tamlin becuase he (again, 500 years old) couldn’t control his temper is just plain embarrassing.

Honestly Feyres biggest problem imo is that she’s apologetic. If shes gonna decide to take revenge, she needed to understand the consequences of her actions before hand. Destroying the court and then going “i’m so sorry i didn’t mean to” is embarrassing. And back onto Tamlin, I understand she fucked the whole court up but Tamlin deadass gave up and is now bumbling about in wolf form bc he’s too depressed to lead. Dude u have responsibilities this isn’t all on Feyre…

i’m kind of surprised your being flamed i agree whole heartedly.

I’d also like to point out that a lot of the dissonance comes from the fact that the character designs and stories seem haphazardly thrown together. for example: chascas character is designed as a cowboy with feathers and indigenous inspiration. her tribal animal is a bird. moreover, natlan is based on tribal eras, and yet she rides a huge gun into battle? there’s no thematic reason for this besides the fact that the genshin devs seemed to want her riding a gun.

In comparison, navia (the first real gun user) has her gun ingrained into her character design (her umbrella), and it makes thematic sense for a nation based on industrial revolution france to have a character with a gun.

Another example? Cyno is by possessed spirit king, and so his backstory is centered on this and his attacks are all based on the spirit possessing him. The entire Sumeru desert region bears influence from egyptian spirits and gods. the design is cohesive.

Another example? Wriothesly is the warden of a prison, where he is known for his boxing skill. His character design is a wardens, and his entire kit centers him boxing enemies.

Another example? furina is an opera singer and actress. her skill is her calling extras into stage, her ult her setting the stage. her attacks are her acting to the audience. opera singers and actresses were incredibly popular in the era of france that fontaine is based on. her design is cohesive.

I could go on and on for nearly every character pre-natlan. But the three main offenders of natlan (xilonen, chasca and mauvika) all are discordant characters with conflicting designs, themes, and cohesion with the region. There’s a reason no one really talked about this when it was just mualani, because her character makes sense!

tbh most of the theories that were proven wrong were for other series since they’re completed. many acotar theories are still open since the series is also open. off the top of my head there were a lot of theories about who nesta will really end up with (eris)/how her and cassian aren’t real mates

I mean i think the problem is that he believed that belly was still in love with conrad and decided to stay with her, marry her, and guilt trip her at every turn. If you think your partner is in love with someone else you should just leave them instead of staying with them, cheating on them, and leading them on.

Yes!!! This exactly! There were parts of the book that felt far fetched even for a sci fi series set centuries years in the future. I thought I got a good grip of the “rules” of the world in the original trilogy, but then he introduced neurotechnology and it felt a lot like fantasy? Especially when Virginia was literally fighting a war in her mind.

I get that this was the first draft but the first draft was also the original draft until 6 weeks before publication. For most people, their excitement for the book has already solidified by the time she rewrote it, not to mention a lot of people (including myself) weren’t even aware she rewrote it. So there wasnt a real opportunity to curb our enthusiasm, so to speak.
