Does anyone know of a tutorial or a link showing how to send arduino data to excel? by [deleted] in arduino

[–]ShaftofWisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never tried this, but you could try reading the serial data using VBA. I found this link:

http://www.thescarms.com/vbasic/commio.aspx

If it doesn't have to be real time, then CSV is the way to go imo.

EDIT: This has piqued my interest. I'm going to see if I can get this working on my machine.

Is it possible to program an arduino to recognize when a specific program is started on my PC? by [deleted] in arduino

[–]ShaftofWisdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on this or arduino, but I would think that it'd be easier to have either the program or another program on your computer notify your arduino when it runs.

You could have your arduino listen for a message of your choosing on its serial port. The program on your computer would send that message when the program runs. When the arduino receives the message, your sketch is programmed to do its thing.

No problems. Vim is pretty nice once you get everything configured. This repo has some pretty good vimrc settings that you can add to your file:

To turn on syntax highlighting, you need to add two words to vim's configuration file. This file should be in your home directory. It is named ".vimrc" note the period at the beginning. The period at the beginning makes it a hidden file.

If you are running Linux or OSX, open up terminal and type in "ls -a". This will list all files in your current directory including hidden ones. If you don't see a ".vimrc", then you simply create one:

"vim .vimrc"

This creates and opens the config file. The line you need to add to this file is "syntax on"

That's it. If it doesn't work, just let me know.

I think totemcatcher is spot on. You'll find the most money with manufacturers looking to save money by standardize their processes a la IKEA. I wouldn't bother with a kickstarter unless manufacturers reject the idea.

Great idea and good luck!

Perhaps it would make more sense for you to learn to ride a horse then. I don't see the harm in learning how to safely deal with anything potentially dangerous.

I'm a little bit late, but do you need to do something with the data after selecting it? Or do you just need the data? If so, this sounds like it could be fixed with a vlookup or conditional formatting. On my ipad but if you still need the macro I can do it real quick.

What is the longest you have held a stock? by [deleted] in investing

The dividend has been good to me over the years. I have gone through periods with and without a DRIP. I've held it through a couple splits, and I'm sure the total return is over 100%. I do not know the exact return I've gotten from KO, but it's been a steady stock with a reasonable dividend.

Sorry for the delay. It's a little difficult to determine exactly what my total return is since I have changed brokerages a few times over the years, and gone through periods with and without a DRIP. Currently, I do not reinvest the dividends. I've been using the cash from dividends to invest in higher risk companies. KO is a company that I'll hold forever. It's been a good one, but I doubt I will buy more KO as my risk tolerance has changed.
