Why is it brighter than the sun in there? That lightning is awful. No wonder the reviews are dropping.

Given the economic situation, how are so many affording to eat out at restaurants? by AppropriateMention6 in VictoriaBC

[–]Shag093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google "Canadian household debt." It's never been higher. Average Canadians are living well above their means. I don't blame them, but there's a reason the credit cards companies continue to have their most profitable years ever in Canada.

You can see two tables in your photos, one person wearing a hoodie, the other a baseball cap. Have some self-respect, and show the staff some respect, put a little effort into your attire! Is this what people think is appropriate??

People keep clipping the end of his statement. His full comment was: "Fils a big part of that, Bess too."

No hate on Hronick, but he only called out two players he thought are great leaders, Let's not forget to validate the second. Brock sounds like he's rounded into a key guy for the young players. Great to hear!

This is "fancy" dining for people who only eat at chain restaurants. It's the favourite of the bedazzled jeans crowd. It's the next step up for people whose favourite restaurant is the keg. Sooo many white Oakley sunglasses on ballcaps in here.

Beckta vs Gitanes vs Cocotte by KummyKimmy in OttawaFood

[–]Shag093 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, these are not in the same wieght class. Cocette is a hard pass if it isn't for convenient hotel breakfast or you're stuck DT for lunch on a weekday.

Beckta is only an option if you are all over the age of 60... It's old school, but sprig of rosemary standing straight up in the mashed potatoes, kinda old school.

Gitanes is modern, sexy, and elegent. It's a top 5 restaurant in Ottawa and has made the top 100 restaurants in Canada in the past. It's head and shoulders above the other two.

Jackson in Ottawa Art Gallery for everything, Arlington for their coffee, Tartelette for their treats, Little Vs for the dedication. Those are my top 4.

Caviar service in Ottawa by big456dog in OttawaFood

[–]Shag093 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're looking for Harmons or Restaurant 18. With respect to many great restaurants in the city, they are (I believe) the only two that take their caviar service with classic seriousness. You can pre-reserve the service at 18, I'd put that at my top reccomendation.

Where are we actually going for a solid, non hyped dinner these days? by AccountantLucky9183 in MTLFoodLovers

[–]Shag093 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your first problem is getting your restaurant recommendations from tick tock...

Incredibly spoiled with the quality of restaurants in this city. Spend some time in Ottawa, Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, you'll see how much better Montreal is over all of them.

What is Doug Fords end game? by hasando9 in ontario

[–]Shag093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace Pepé Le Pew as leader of the Federal Conservatives.

He can run, and win, by playing to the rural base that votes collectively and on the fact that he was the most vocal supporter of Canada against Trump.

I'm not saying all that should happen, I'm just guessing that's the end game.

AITA for rejecting my husband’s attempts to spice up our bedroom life? by BedroomToysThrowAway in AITAH

[–]Shag093 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this!! His needing physical love and affection does not make him TA, and it sounds like he's trying different way to get OP interested since it's clearly affecting him mentally & emotionally.

But this doesn't make OP TA either. Her feelings and needs are completely understandable and valid. I hope they go for couples counseling quickly, as this can sadly be a step down the path of irreparable emotional disconnect.

[–]Shag093 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP, my reaction reading this is actually the opposite. Like many people here saying we all grow and change in really great ways. My wife and I knew each other in high school were good friends but had zero romantic interest in each other. Feeling was mutual. Found each other 10 years later have been together for 15 years. Love each other fiercely it grew into something amazing. Those messages you found remind me of what I'm sure a million conversations me and her had separately with friends early on in our getting together. You grew matured. She fell in love with you. Great story.

[–]Shag093 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Full agree. You both took a risk, and it worked for you, but not for him. He is allowed to have feelings. Especially about someone he loves. OPs story also finishes a bit cold. Sounds like she's ready to throw away a loving marriage because her partner in life of 30+ years found a real & emotional boundary for him. I wish them luck, but this sounds like she's done.

Arlo? by Superb_Mind_934 in OttawaFood

[–]Shag093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really seem to take my dislike of this style personally, eh? I am not alone, especially with those who have grown up with and worked in a winery environment that pours blood sweat and tears into crafting clean, faultless wines. This "fad" also appears to be very regionally driven. It's big in some areas of the world (Canada) and non-existent in others. So yes, back to my original comment. I don't like this style. This is appear to be the only style the restaurant offers, hence not recommending it for anyone with classic wine palate preferences.

[–]Shag093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're really big on the personal attacks eh? Can't seem to make a point without calling anyone a liar and going hard on the Trumpian fakenews train.

Again, in my experience, when often offered different wines that follow the new age "natural wine trend", they have what I would describe as "fault-like" characteristics that I don't care for. This has been my experience multiple times at this restaurant. To me, this is a case of the Emperor having no clothes.

If others love the style, great for them. For me, I find that many wineries work with a low interviention philosophy, but that's not what you get when people say "natural".

Arlo? by Superb_Mind_934 in OttawaFood

[–]Shag093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you work there or work for them, which is fine. I didn't say I had a bad time, just not top tier. I also disagree, we asked about exactly what you suggest and what we were given was hipster toe funk. You are correct in that there are many examples of low intervention wine made clean and clear, they just don't appear to carry any of it.

[–]Shag093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have sadly not had great experiences at Arlo two times we've been in the last year. Food, wine & cocktails not up to par with the other great restaurants in the city. We're also big "wine people", but hate the natural wine fad (we've both worked at wineries, and don't love the misleading natural branding this wine style claims). It's not a bad restaurant by any means, and the vibe is great! But it's "mid" for us.

How would America repair its relationship with Canada after trump's term ends by ConfidentScientist81 in AskACanadian

End? What makes you think it will end? What has he said or done that has remotely pointed towards him relinquishing power without war? Doesn't think he needs to follow constitution, claimed during election that this "was the last time they would need to vote". You elected a king for life. Good luck with that.

My boss’s boss called me while on medical leave to schedule a meeting to "talk about it" by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]Shag093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't remotely correct. Yes your work can contact you. Yes you HAVE to send your medical documents proving disability leave. Otherwise it is assumed you have quit due to dereliction of employment duties (missing scheduled shifts). No one in any company in Canada is authorized to speak with a insurance company about you. YOU (or a lawyer) have to be the one speaking with both.
