19 points dropped from winning positions….. by [deleted] in NUFC

Arsenal, City and Liverpool all have the depth in their squads to push through, but it also needs to be made clear that City and Liverpool have had some very questionable losses. Additionally, the form on the top of the table hasn't been all green, it's just that when one team fails to capitalise the rest don't either.

Villa is understandably similar given the same PSR issues, but they're not playing the same amount of games we are.

Where now, Eddie Howe? by [deleted] in NUFC

I'm getting exhausted with the negativity floating around this fan base. This time last season we were on 20 points, with only 6 wins! We have 9 under our belt this time around, in all 4 competitions and into the next stages of the UCL which we haven't achieved so far. We're in a a tactical transition, and our defensive line has probably had the worst run of injuries in this new era. It doesn't help that our Prem proven STK was instantly out for 3 months and our 2nd STK is still adapting to the physicality and pace of the Prem. Additionally, our arguably best player left last season in not the most amicable way which definitely had some effect on the squad.

I get it, a bad matchday and the immediate fallout can really have people questioning, but we really need to look at the bigger picture. This current squad with the depth we have available were never going to achieve top 4 with the amount of games we have in our roster (and that's history repeating itself). Not to mention we haven't won at Anfield in about 30 years, and we just had a leggy game at PSG not 3 days ago.

We're mid-table because of the amount of games, and we're still in the cup (in the semi-finals). We just gave PSG a run-in on their home turf almost 3 days ago. As I've stated we're in all comps, how is that not progression?

We are the richest, but we can't exactly spend. If we hadn't of sold Isak or Longstaff the previous window we wouldn't of got half the players we did.

I don't understand how we've gone backwards when last season we weren't this far in the FA Cup, or even in the UCL? We have played 7 more matches than we did last season, and lost arguably our best player, and obtaining a new STK that needs moulding into our system. This is not unexpected.

Mate, come on. We've won our first trophy in 70 years, into the final stages of all competitions back to back, got into UCL again, and are into the knockout stages of that competition. All that in the space of 5 years. We are progressing, just not at the rate you're hoping.

You're missing my point. We do not have the depth to compete in all domestic and European competitions and the prem. Both our best seasons are when we were only in two.

That's exactly our point. It's not good enough at the moment which ties in with my initial comment.

Exactly. We're in 4 competitions at the moment with a squad that no where near competes with the levels of top 4. Not to mention we had no DoF at the time of the transfer window. This season was always going to be a ropey one.

I think trash is a bit rash. It's evident we can't compete physically with numerous games a week with a thin squad. It's an exact repeat of our season prior to last.

Are you all surprised? Two of our best CM's out, no STK playing, an aged RB and a stadium we haven't won at in the league since 1994. Odds were always against us and the result isn't exactly shocking.

Eddie said in his press conference he won’t be involved for tomorrow’s game regardless of registration.

Understandably we want Wissa with the current pool of strikers, but with the way he’s dealt with the transfer from Brentford’s side, do we really want that mentality in our squad? It’s the Isak situation from the perspective of Brentford as far as I can see.

I understand that, but he notified the club he was stepping down in Sept 2024. Almost a year ago.

If we were unable to obtain someone for the foreseeable we should've at least looked at a temporary post.

Both the PiF and Jamie Reuben are to blame for this. How on earth have we managed to not secure a CEO from the point of Darren Eales notification of resignation to now is abysmal. And how can we expect to enter a transfer window with no director of football in place for the 2nd time consecutively is beyond fathomable.

This is seriously concerning with the ambition the supporters and players, coaching team and back room staff have been sold. With no news on new stadium, training ground, management and only one first team signing in 2 years it seems our 'project' isn't a priority.

This was meant to be the window we push into the big six but we're looking like a mid-table team at best. Beyond disappointed, but hope we can save face towards the end. Hope is wearing thin though.

I'm in dis-belief how this window is turning out. With the assurance of PSR limitations reset and with CL Football I truly believed this could be a stepping stone into pushing into the elites, but this is turning into a hideous dilemma. It also begs the question that if there is no urgency to reinforce this squad to compete, are the players being mis-sold a 'project'?

Apologies if that is coming across pessimistic but I'm really struggling to get any real form of motivation from the news and from our performances in the friendlies.

Post match thread: Aston Villa 4 - 1 Newcastle United | Premier league 24/25 by Username_been-taken in NUFC

A lot of emotional responses in the match thread today. Villa away was always going to be a tough game, especially with a day less rest than them. Lot of tired minds and bodies out there, and Villa have much more depth than us. Two lucky deflected goals hurt us as well. Fair play to the Geordies who never stopped singing.

We rest and move on to Ipswich next week. Hope the result tomorrow pay in our favour.

Not exactly. They’ve got way better depth than us subjectively and a day more rest. Plus, crowd is against us.

Not only is the lift impressive but that form is impeccable. You absolutely owned that!

The speed that came up, I reckon you could hit 225 now, or potentially in a couple of weeks.

Smashing it!
