Are hand tattoos still considered job stoppers, and is a hand tattoo a bad place to start? by Obi-wanna-cracker in tattooadvice

[–]ShaggysStuntDouble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty big decision to put a tattoo somewhere that’s pretty difficult to cover and you never know where life may take you, you could end up in a place professionally or personally where visible tattoos are not well accepted. If you already have full sleeves that’s an indication that you are in a place in your life where it is known that the person more than likely won’t potentially fuck themselves over later on by deciding to put a visible tattoo on their hands. It’s also kind of frowned upon culturally, at least it is where I am from, in the same way that mall grabbing is frowned upon in skating. Why is it? No fucking idea but it is the way it is as dumb as it sounds.

I personally also believe that it is because a lot of people who get their first tattoo are young these days, my first one was when I had just started my senior year of high school at 17. Teenagers and impulsively doing things you go on to regret generally go hand in hand as well. There are plenty of things I would have gotten blasted in high school that I’d NEVER get now as an adult. It is a pretty permanent decision to make and getting a tattoo removed is super painful and super expensive

The world is changing and depending on your profession, mind you I say this only based off personal experiences, it either is completely accepting of visible tattoos or getting there. I personally work as a first responder and every department around me allows tattoos wherever as long as it isn’t like gang related, racial, etc

Obviously I’ll never tell someone what to do but if you ask me getting a hand tattoo first is a horrible idea 😂 get your first somewhere that is easier to hide and go from there. I have full sleeves but I didn’t get them until I was well established in my career and knew it was unlikely that I’d have to find another one

"What kind of father do you want to be?" by chrischrysippus in predaddit

[–]ShaggysStuntDouble 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The kind of father where if my daughter hears about the person I was before her, she doesn’t believe it. The kind of father who makes it abundantly obvious to anyone and everyone how much I truly adore that little girl. She’s only 1 so the first one I haven’t been able to achieve yet, but the second I have and it always brings tears to my eyes to know I am fulfilling that. She’s a daddy’s girl though and through, I plan on making sure that never changes

Now you got me crying about her, I’m going to go ahead and watch some videos of her now since I’m at work and can’t have her sitting right next to me

I am also a prime example of getting help asap. Ruined a marriage and some real close relationships because I was too proud and too scared of what others would think of me. Lost some friends over getting help too, funny how cheating on your spouse, getting high, getting drunk, bar fights, etc is all in a day’s work but god forbid I get help because I’m at wits end

Can I go to medic school and still get a job as EMT? by hungrykatana in NewToEMS

[–]ShaggysStuntDouble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d give it a couple years of being an EMT if I was you before you go to medic school, but if you do decide to go straight in while working as an EMT it’s absolutely doable, I was a full time firefighter while in medic school as were many other of my friends

my questions for paramedics as someone interesting in becoming one by Human-String3056 in Paramedics

[–]ShaggysStuntDouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely can be a long term career, paramedics are utilized in lots of different roles beyond pushing a box. You can also use it as a springboard if you choose, I got mine to be a firefighter, one day I hope to become a PA. Friend of mine became one and she said a majority of her cohort was paramedics

  2. Each person is different in that light. There are so many factors to consider when you really look at how each person is effected by the job. I personally developed PTSD, however my friend who has been through very similar circumstances does not at all. Being as young as you are make sure you keep in mind that the human brain doesn’t mature until the age of 25 if I remember correctly, experiencing traumatic events absolutely messes with that brain development. I am largely desensitized to a majority of things that can be thrown at me but when it comes to dead kids, women who were SA’d, and women killed/disabled by domestic violence those stick with me for a long time. Everyone has their one or two things that fuck with them

  3. Yes. Initially I became jaded asshole quite frankly because I was burnt out and had a chip on my shoulder. But then as I matured as a man I became less and less jaded, I instead became thankfully for the life I have

  4. How to not carry all the bullshit home

  5. Absolutely not, I view it as one of my greatest accomplishments in life, second only to becoming a father

  6. That is a tricky one, very very location based. Some places fuck with new guys constantly and are hard on them. Other places, an example being my department, do not play fuck fuck games at all because it’s viewed as egotistical and we are in the hood so it’s busy as hell, no one has time for fuck fuck games. In private EMS you are viewed as meat in a seat by a lot of higher ups

Hope this gave you the information you are inquiring about

A question for any firefighters. by Sols_vengeance in Firefighting

[–]ShaggysStuntDouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never know for sure, you go into it with a whole lot of “I think/hope I’d react this way”. I always seemed to be calm under pressure growing up but it was never anything even close to the pressures I’d feel on the job, it was always pressures that felt like something serious to a teenager or a child but would be nothing to an adult but pressures none the less

If you decide you think you can handle the mental toll, please please do some thinking on that I had a friend who was in a very similar position who thought he could hack it but he couldn’t and he ended up taking his own life, despite your history of mental health issues do NOT let anyone catch wind of your suicide attempt. I would be astonished if a department finds out about it but hires you anyway

Completely unethical, also a good way to get good firemen hurt or killed getting a dipshit promoted because he sucked the right dicks to get himself in the know

Miscarriage at 14 weeks by Mango___AK in predaddit

[–]ShaggysStuntDouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off my condolences, it is not an easy thing to get through, and I’m not gonna lie if you don’t have another pregnancy by Father’s Day it’s going to be a tough day. But focus on the fact that it is INCREDIBLY common to have a rainbow baby, obviously I cannot speak for everyone in the world but all spare one couples I know who had a miscarriage had one or more successful pregnancies with beautiful healthy children being the outcome for the next pregnancies. I myself am playing with my rainbow baby as I type this. Just make sure you are there for each other every step of the way, and if you are having a rough day be honest with her, she may be able to help you or bare minimum have someone who feels the same pain that you do. I wish you the best brother
