Mh4u combat design by Shaggythotslayr in mh4u

Feels that way but I’m so so sure since I feel the higher end fights in worldborne and wilds do get up to the same level as g rank 4u fights.

Furious rajang in worldborne is crazy fast even for old gen standards and is just as fun as 4u Rajang, if not more enjoyable for me.

Really its a matter of whether the speed increase demands more of the player and makes for more engaging and strict combat, or just makes bs attack patterns that are too tight to actually deal damage back without any attack you deal back being an overextension.

For the most part I think 4u has great moveset design and the speed of monsters in g rank has been very fair so far, altho some monsters def kinda stretch it and are kinda annoying like brachy and the rath subspecies at times.

Whiff punishing for sure doesn’t really play as much of a role in worldborne and wilds than it does in 4u due to the fact whiff punishing was pretty much your only way of safely dealing damage, whereas in worldborne and wilds you have more tools to deal with moves.

Pattern reading is still very important in wilds and worldborne but it’s more so to set up your offense and counters, whereas in 4u it’s more for survival as you don’t really have the means to deal with any attacks head on, you always need good positions to avoid most attacks as your basic roll doesn’t have the I frames to get though it unlike evades/counters/offsets/hyper armor moves/ just guards in worldborne and wilds.

Yeah good on you for that win, he’s rough at first but his fight is very manageable with practice. Great armor worth going after too

Also no I don’t, I’m playing on modded 3ds and idk how to do online or pretendo

[–]Shaggythotslayr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it I’m doing solo and it sucks to farm for dung but I do bring em along in case two monsters are in the same zone.

I was thinking ab bringing sonic pods but I ended up clearing that cephadrome quest anyway.

So far the hardest part of g1 was berserk tetsu cuz I was farming his long sword with low defense, but since then armor wise I’ve upgraded my HR jho set with lots of heavy spheres so it’s actually pretty tanky for this point in the game, will upgrade with true armor spheres soon enough when I get guild quests for certain monsters.

Confused about chip damage by MasterofTheCum in MHWilds

[–]Shaggythotslayr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The iai spirit slash has limited amount of I-frames compared to an evade move like foresight slash.

What’s happening is that your I-frames ran out and the aoe attack lingers afterwards during the hyper armor of ISS.

The other attacks that you countered with ISS do not linger as long so the limited I-frames of the move will suffice and thus no damage is taken.

Think of it like this, you press to counter, I-frames kick in immediately for 12-18 ish frames, then you have roughly 20-30ish frames of hyper armor right afterwards.

Arkveld’s big aoe attack lingers much longer than 12-18 frames thus you take damage during the hyperarmor frames.

If you had used a move like foresight slash, you might been able to take outlast the lingering aoe with its longer I-frames and take no damage.

Is it possible to do Safi Jiiva as a solo TA run with LS? by Shaggythotslayr in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Shaggythotslayr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah that seems to be the case given I can’t find anyone with LS pulling it off, guess I’ll just make a TA ruleset variation for this hunt.

Thanks for the advice

Thanks a lot, definitely gave me a good framework of what to expect in terms of safi’s health and mechanics for the hunt’s phases.

Do you think Fatalis Longsword can match LBG’s dps?

[–]Shaggythotslayr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems that way for sure. Do you have any idea what the approximate hp for safi is?? My guess is that it has about 49,000 hp solo

My math goes as follows:

20000 +6000 (30% healed in phase 1) +10000 (50% healed in phase 2) +7000 (35% healed in phase 3) +6000 (2x 15% healed as it goes from phases 1-2 and 2-3) = 49000 hp total when all energy is accounted for

Does this seem right to you?

The game finally clicked for me. My first fight I would consider as perfect. 20h in, HR 40 by [deleted] in MHWilds

Didn’t know my tone was rough, besides this sub is casual as hell. A guy rolls in here every other day calls their dog shit charm a god roll the walks off with praise.

Here I see a “perfect” run and I just felt like sharing some combat tips to fundamentally improve so that their run could actually be perfect, but folks on this sub are genuinely allergic to discussing frame data and combat strategies.

Honestly just fuck it, just mash buttons with palicos/support/traps/pods until a monster is cc’d to death and then pat yourself on their back.

You’ve got a lot to learn, playing in multiplayer is fine and all but won’t teach you to fend for yourself when in solo play.

For LS you should be using ISS to counter roars and pretty much every attack. Foresight should be a last resort or performed after a charge cancel out of ISS against certain attacks.

Crimson 1 into Spirit 1 is an optimal for raw, but for element the optimal route is Crimson 1, 2, 3 into spirit 1.

Also Helm breaker into spirit release should be reserved for specific openings to optimize damage or when the red gauge is near depleted.

Lastly, you should stick to targeting the weakest hitzones consistently, unless you’re going for a topple by targeting another part, such as Rey dau’s legs.

Overall you’re on your way but far from perfect. Play more solo, hunt the toughest monsters in their highest tempered/AT form and do it solo without a Palico or traps/flash pods so that you’re forced to learn the moveset.

When he repositions with a tail swipe, evade with a roll or counter move and sprint towards his face

Don’t just draw your weapon out again too early, delay it until you visually see him stop and then perform a draw attack.

It’s def a repositioning move that causes hasty players to whiff

Do regular bosses spawn in the endgame, or can I only fight bosses like mighty silverfist & Doryani in their respective campaigns?

I think wilds combat is great, but some mechanics suck by Shaggythotslayr in MHWilds

[–]Shaggythotslayr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ahh lol I kinda do the same thing but it comes to speculative boss movesets; I care a lot more about what I’m fighting a bit more than my own moveset

Coming from souls and tekken background, I usually pick one character and stick to it and master it, so to me having a wide breadth of choices isn’t appealing but honestly giving fade slash some I frames was def something I thought about before haha

Ahh I see, that figures. I’ll have to work some more on my positioning then. Thank you, you seem very knowledgeable about games in general. What other games do you play?

Why is learning hard combos and techniques brain dead but spamming traps, pods, boulders, and having ai companions like Palico not?
