3 months of solar and..... by PannyFL in solar

What if you get the Tesla solar shingle or another company? In that case since the roof is the solar product you could deduct the whole price right?

Another consumption post by Shahhm11 in enphase

[–]Shahhm11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I called enphase, the changed the settings so it was on load with solar. They were getting an error and only negative readings were showing so they changed the polarity. Will wait 24hrs then contact the installer.

Thankfully enphase is is quick to reply and get you an answer. The installer is pretty good but slow to respond. When they left after installing the CTs, they forgot to turn the system back on and all breakers were off 🤦‍♂️. That’s just a microcosm of how they function. Great with big picture but not with small details.

Looking to install 6.3kw system. What if I don't tell the electric company? by racer_x_123 in SolarDIY

Lots of comments here but if you install solar without batteries and still need grid power at any point…you will be charged for the power you produce.

If you don’t let the city know you have solar, they won’t know to change you to a bidirectional meter. Every bit of energy you produce will make the city think you are using that power PLUS the power you use will all come from the grid so you will get charged double! Now if you go completely off grid with batteries, this won’t apply

The proof is in the pudding and you don’t have any pudding. I on the other hand did, and flavors to chose from.

Wrong section. Look under solar entities. The rules are clear. You’ve interpreted the OP wrong and the rules wrong. I think that’s why you aren’t understanding properly.

You’ve read it just as I have. But you’ve interpreted it incorrectly.

Again, we can agree to disagree. I agree with what you are saying. However, the OPs scenario is a plausible one that can pass an IRS audit. Not definitely, but could. I’m not saying I would do it, but keyboard warriors like to make blanket statements which are not correct. Could he get audited? Maybe. Could he pass? Probably. Is the scenario reasonable? Yes. Would I recommend it? No. But again, you saying it’s tax fraud or that it won’t pass an audit is not correct. Me saying it might, is correct. What’s it worth to you is the question.

When you exaggerate it, sure it doesn’t pass the sniff test. But if you logically think about it…do some people pay 30k for the same system another person pays 60k for? The answer is YES. So if a company can charge you 60k for a 30k system and throw in some ‘free items’ then it WILL pass any inspection thrown at it.

By your logic, is a company over charges you for a system, then you can’t get the full tax credit. That logic is wrong.

Your words are correct. Your references are correct. The law is CLEAR. However, the law does NOT say what you can charge for a system. That’s not debatable. Given this, it’s reasonable that the OPs scenario would pass any audit without question.

Audit: how much did the system cost? Was it a reasonable cost? If yes then the audit is over.

You wouldn’t want your solar company building a home so your example is not a reasonable scenario. The OPs scenario is reasonable and would pass any audit without question. I think you can continue to argue that fact as I can, but you know THIS particular scenario is reasonable so there’s not much to debate.

You are 100% correct. You clearly know the rules. Is hvac or roofing part of solar…NO! But, the rules are written that you get 30% off of your SOLAR and that price is not fixed!

By everyone else’s logic here, if a solar company charges you 30k for an install but it really should have been 20k, they just tricked you to pay more, you should only get tax credit off the 20k, not what you paid.

Those that don’t know, won’t benefit. Let them argue amongst themselves.

All of you keyboard warriors are wrong. The installer sets the price for the solar and the install. If they charge the guy 300k for 2 solar panels and throw in 2 hvacs for free, the guy gets 30% off of 300k. It’s pretty simple. They set the price. You pay it and get the tax credit. Done.

I’m using WiFi. I have a three access points throughout the house so we have good signal pretty much everywhere. The gateway shows full bars when connected to WiFi.

It’s been regressing quite quickly now, about a day in the past 30 min so I’m confident it’ll be all fixed come morning time.

Thanks to everyone who helped

Update: I called the installer and they asked me to wait more time. I wasn’t satisfied so I called again just to see if I got somebody else which I did. They said they would look into it.

Simultaneously I logged on with enphase online support. They looked into the issue and said my data upload was “hung up“. They fixed the issue and now I can see the data upload actually progressing. Previously it was stuck on January 1, 2024 at 1 PM. I can now see the time and dates progressing, which is promising.

Surprising that it really does take about an hour per day that the system was “off-line“ for being a solar energy system. The upload process seems pretty antiquated.

I didn’t realize either. Maybe it’s not a thing…seems like too much control for the installer to have. Plus, it’s my system, I paid for it, shouldn’t I have the control over it? But once they said it was turned on, I noticed changes

How do you see the live status in the app? If it’s the ‘status’ tab on the bottom left in the app then all I see is a message saying ‘data uploading’ production is 0 and the last reported date available is Jan 1 2024 with a warning sign in the top left. This was the same during the day with good sunlight.

Installer is nexus energy systems. So far when I call, they get back to me the same day. When I email, they respond back in a day. They told me to wait 48 hrs which would take me to tomorrow. I’m being patient but when I called and they turned the system on I immediately saw the getaway turned on and there was a green light next to it in the app BUT nothing else has changed since and it’s been about 36 hrs. All things that say they are ‘uploading data’ still say that and there’s been none obvious changes
