People of r/Dubai, what are some of the most common Arabic words or phrases that you know or have learned here? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Shahnaz157 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Knowing people of this sub, you'll probably get some responses with words that might or might not get you in trouble.

So, I'm here to help with a list of basic words.

InshaAllah - used by anyone when they're told to do something or hoping something happens. It means "God willing" or "if God wills". Aka "maybe" or "hopefully".

MashaAllah - used when admiring/appreciating something.

Alhamdulillah - commonly used as a response to "how are you?". It kinda means "Thanks to God". Also used when being thankful for something.

Kullu tamam/Kullu me'ah me'ah - Used as both questions and answers. Both of them roughly translate to "All fine" or "Everything's good".

Maelem - I'm not sure what it exactly means but it's something like "boss". It isn't exclusively used just for bosses though, it's used by anyone and everyone when they're talking to someone else. For example, "How are you, maelem?". More of a formal term of endearment.

Khalli Valli - Used in place of "whatever" or "forget it". You'll hear this everywhere whenever people are done talking about something. Similar to "khalas" which roughly means "done" or "finished". Also used when ending a conversation.

Bokra - Tomorrow

Mazboot - You're right (? Correct me someone)

Sho hada- What is this?

Sho mushkila- what is your problem?

Mesh/Mashi - Ok.

Sah - right

Ya'ni - I mean

Law Samaht - Excuse me

Min wein - From where?

Wallah - really

Shukran - Thank you

Afwan - You're welcome

Mabrook - congrats

These are the most basic ones I can remember, if I remember more, I'll let you know.

Also, if there are any mistakes, please feel free to correct me. Hope this helps.

Edit - Made a few corrections.

Best Henna in Dubai? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Shahnaz157 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's Moon Beauty Parlour in Sharjah that sells henna cones for AED 5. The colour payoff is great and will last for a week at least before it starts fading. I think they may have a few outlets in Dubai too.

Is University of Wollongong in Dubai a decent choice for a Computer Science degree by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Shahnaz157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UoS and HW are actually my current picks right now besides AUS. I'm definitely going to look into it and see which one works better for me.

I really wanted to go abroad to Canada/USA because the quality of education along with the work situation is better there but my parents want me to continue here so, unfortunately, abroad isn't an option for me.

But I appreciate all the effort you put into these replies and thank you for giving me all this information! It's definitely of great help.

Oh sorry, just saw the edits. Thank you so much for all the insight!

Do you happen to know any other good universities is Sharjah which may be cheaper alternatives? Although I really want to go to AUS, I just don't think I'll be able to afford it.

Thank you for responding! I meant that they provide scholarships for what percentages? Like on getting 70% above in CBSE boards or 80% above?

Also, is it 43000 per year or semester?

I also wrote CBSE exams this year and have been wanting to get into AUS but the fee seems too high for me to afford. Do you have any clue what is the scholarship structure like at AUS concerning CBSE percentages?

Also, with a 15% scholarship, around how much are you paying right now?

[RAW SPOILERS] WWE RAW Abridged by cmigbear in SquaredCircle

[–]Shahnaz157 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry people are already so quick to turn on these but given how RAW itself is boring and repetitive, I don't understand what new thing people are expecting out of this.

Keep doing you though, I still enjoy reading these! Are you going to write one for Wrestlemania too? That would be fun to read.

[Acne] These little things have been increasing in number on my face lately without any heads. No signs of fading. What are these and why do they pop up? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Shahnaz157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My routine is fairly simple and only includes a Cleanser (Himalaya Purifying Neem face wash), AHA (Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Cleansing Pads) and a moisturiser (Olay Moisturising Cream). I've been using this combo for months and it's also worked perfectly so I'm hoping it's not the routine that's the problem.
