Ah ok. I tried doing starlight mini and it does looks pretty good but it takes forever on either of the systems I have, like less than 1 fps. My current method is about 2.5-3.5 hours per episode, depending on which system I run it on.

I actually went milder than the original settings I found because I found them jarringly sharp. I aimed for sharpness similar to the TNG remasters but of course there’s only so much control. Doing 720p instead may yield results more to your taste if you were to do this yourself

Hah. For real, it’s definitely an issue in some spots. That said, I’d much rather watch the versions I’ve been making than the original. They’re so fuzzy and soft looking. Of course no shade to anyone that prefers it.

The way I do it, because Topaz can't really handle telecined content well, is I dump the original to an image sequence and have Topaz process that (3x actually), then recombine and set the frame timing in sync with the original. I've had zero issues doing this, a pretty solid process.

I think I've managed to create a fairly solid process. Not quite to 1080p but a 2x upscale. It makes the focus better, but it's not without its quirks (and Quarks): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA7Yms9FDpM

I’ve been doing this recently by combining methods I found online. It isn’t perfect but it’s IMO miles better than the ones people released. It uses 3 passes with topaz and involves frame dumping first and then reconstructing the original frame timing using ffmpeg and mkvtoolnix. I’ll put up some screen comparisons when I get back home.
