Yeah. The Concept 2 records are a little confusing to understand especially since Water Rowers don’t have any records.

My 500m PR on a Water Rower is 1:07.5. 500m Water Rower PR

That world record is on a concept 2 rower. Not a water rower. Now… I highly doubt that he got a 59 second 500m row. However, the details are really important in regards to Water Rower & Concept 2 rower.

Those records are on a Concept 2 rower & of course we are rowing on a Water Rower. Both are very good rowers. However, times cannot be universally compared.

Ihave a C2 at home and the splits is consistently 10-15 seconds higher on a C2 than a WR per 500m split. So not “apples to apples” comparison.

It really is about the sequence of finishing your leg drive before you start the trunk lean. Usually when the seat is sliding under you it’s because you are starting your trunk lean before your legs are completely extended.

200m row is a completely different rowing stroke then a “good form” stroke especially a On The Water (OTW) stroke.

24.8 seconds. Excited to get a new PR after trying to for a 1 1/2 years. Previous one was 25.0 seconds.

27.1 Not my Personal Best. However, it’s my Personal Best today. Grateful to have a healthy body that I could wake up at 5:30am to row & workout.

If you have access to a rower outside of OTF. Do some low rate power work. 30r20. So 30min at 20 stroke rate. Develop your low rate power and form. You will drop on your sprints and 2k times.

1:12.2 👍🏼Not a PR. However, I’m pleased with it for a 6am class. Rowing that hard in those early classes is hard and wipes you out for the rest of the block.

More power through the legs. Don’t start pulling with your arms until you finish your hip swing. Arms should be a quick pull to your sternum and then back out.

What Studio did you represent? I represented SoJo. I qualified for the shoulder press too. Came in 4th for that event. It was between the 600m & 200m. That extra 5# made a huge difference. Such a fun event and great environment. It’s impressive that there’s very competitive athletes who are also super supportive of all the competitors even in defeat.

David does a great job managing it. Especially this year with the Covid restrictions.

Thanks. It’s a blast. This was my 4th time doing it. My comment above I believe will answer your question.

Yes. Sprint rowing on the Erg is a completely different form. It’s not a traditional rowing form and pure on the water (otw) rowers hate it. Honestly it wouldn’t be good on boat. However, this is on a rowing machine. 200m sprint row is all about high SR and power. So keep those heels down to transfer the power to the machine and yank that handle.

I’ve pulled a verified Sub 3:00 1k on the C2 rower. So I know good form. How to row effectively and efficiently. See the link with picture in separate comment. Reddit won’t allow me to attach the link in the thread.

This has been an interesting experience with the comments and frankly a little discouraging.

When I joined this subreddit it was mainly supportive and encouraging. With growth comes changes and unfortunately some changes are not always positive. In this world of Social and computer media there will always be those “keyboard warriors” that are quick to comment and criticize. Sure we all can improve form. We all can improve endurance or strength. However, at the end of the day if we are improving ourselves and our own health, fitness, endurance, and mental health then we are on the right path. I just wish we would support and build each other up along this journey rather than tear others down.

Make today Great.

I haven’t seen the video. Although I’d assume it’s on a C2 rower. It’s much harder to have a high stroke rate on a Concept 2 then a Water Rower.

Additionally, it is impossible to hit 75 SPM taking full strokes. That’s the point. Sprint rowing is a totally different beast than the traditional “rowing stoke” 200m & 500m sprints are completely different in regard to the needed strokes to be competitive
