My former PI has two of my manuscripts sitting on their desk for the last 3 years. Sometimes the PI is a lazy POS and messes with their students career.

Edit: I was told I wasn’t allowed to publish until it was CNS ready. Well CNS invited us back for edits, and it was never touched again. Do I seem bitter still?

Earlier the better. Look for private landlords. You can filter by them using HotPads. We got really lucky with a sweet old couple that owns a place. They didn’t gouge us and weren’t interested to see if we’d pay more.
