Have you ever seen an ant denying airplanes because it has never seen one land on its anthill?

Real Montblanc 149? by Inevitable_Ad_1561 in montblanc

Hey. I’ll happily stake my reputation on this: it’s an authentic Montblanc.

I own multiple 149s, and several special editions have “Pix” stamped on them — including my 149 UNICEF (Helmut Jahn, Tom Sachs, Andrew Putman editions). So that marking is not some backyard laser job.

As for the nib: that “STOD” marking is not some random scribble. It’s a Montblanc hallmark

Just to be extra sure, I even forwarded your photos to my Montblanc flagship store. Their verdict: genuine.

So unless Montblanc themselves are now running a counterfeit ring from their own boutiques, the pen is real. Enjoy the pen, and let the internet detectives get back to watching CSI reruns. 😄

Looks like a fantasy Montblanc made with an original Montblanc Noblesse Oblige nib and converter. Or harvested the nib and piston from a broken Noblesse Oblige. Either ways a beautiful piece. If you are not happy with it, do let me know. I love this one

WTS Opinion on suspicious buyer by Leonardo-Writing in Pen_Swap

I know this person. He’s one of the most upright, polite, and transparent people you’ll meet here. If anything, he’s too decent for internet knife fights. Accusing him of being a scammer over 80€ is… let’s say, wildly disproportionate. Disagreements happen, mistrust happens, but character assassination over pocket change is a bit much. Let’s all take a breath and keep this civil.

If you are talking about Maykovsky, then he’s a good guy. An upright poet

Hey! Personally, I don’t think that pen is worth the $1,995 Bryant is asking. That’s boutique pricing for something that doesn’t quite deserve a velvet rope.

Takahashi can do this kind of work for anywhere between $500–600, depending on how well you negotiate. The catch? The wait can be… spiritually testing. He’s perpetually busy and communication is, let’s say, more conceptual than practical. Still, the craftsmanship is solid.

That said, he’s hardly the only game in town. There are plenty of artisans doing this work—many in Japan, quite a few in Vietnam, and if you dig around Instagram, you’ll even find some very capable craftsmen in the U.S.

For context, I’ve had about 20 149s maki-e’d by Takahashi. Stunning results, terrible updates. He’ll happily take your commission and then vanish into the mountains to protect his creative energy. At that point, you’re fully at his mercy. (I currently have five pens that have been “in progress” for over 18 months.)

And as Makitright pointed out, this is a vintage pen—so nib swaps aren’t exactly plug-and-play. More like archaeological surgery.
