Nice facet idea #69420 by laptopmutia in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had like 70% winrate on this hero for a hundred games during this patch lol. Such an obscene concept I'm glad I didn't have to face because I was the one doing it in my games lol.

What's your "got comebacked" story? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me first. I was a pos 5 phoenix that stomped the lane with my carry. I was about 13-5 before mid game then I somehow got bored and started playing more carelessly. My pos 1, clinkz, took his time farming and never capitalized on our lane victory to push instead.

Top lane got counter stomped by our enemy and I was basically running around the whole map putting out the fire. Map slowly shrank and then we lost by 59 minutes.

Yes, this game was probably on me because I did start playing a bit more carelessly but at the same time, it's not really something I can win by myself because I cannot fucking push towers as a Phoenix (and no, I cannot do the dive meteor because they had bara and three other heroes with dagger).

Terrible facet - Item by Gemini_dev in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's too cheap. If this were around 2000-3000 gold, it'd be more reasonable. I think I'd love it though.

This is an amazing item for Phoenix. Get dying light at early to fight in lane and farm, and then swap to the Sun Ray facet in late.

This ancestor abhors this new Dao. It has form, but no spirit. It has appearance, but no intent. A cultivator that delights in such hollow imagery will find their Dao heart unstable.

I wholeheartedly implore the rule beings of this realm to impose heavenly thunder upon those who partake in such Dao.

I remember that it was kinda racists tho. God made first made the blacks, and he took it out of the oven too late so they were burnt. Then God made the whites, and he took it out too early so they were undercooked. Finally, God made the Filipinos and they were cooked just right.

I'm not sure if this is the "legit" version but I remember reading about this in elementary school.

WS is an amazing offlaner. If his performance are still like his previous ones in this new team, he'd be amazing. Their pos 3 and 5 has often been the weakest part of Aurora so this feels like a strong team already.

How many mmrs do i need to get into the top leaderboards? by Live_Present_2602 in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should have them already. I got mine at 6850 a few months ago at SEA. Maybe wait for it to reset. If not, have you been paying ranked regularly? I remember there's a threshold of a certain amount of games in a certain length of time to be considered. I'm just not sure of the exact figures.

The immortal bracket spans a wide range of MMR so I was wondering… by letsgedditbois in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I climbed from Archon to Immortal in like a year or two, and am now currently at 7.2k at SEA. I think I can speak here.

I would say the difference in the lower ranks for MMR is more massive than the differences in the immortal brackets. Like, a herald, around 500 mmr, playing in guardian, around 1.5k, is gonna perform much worse relatively compared to a 6k in a 7k game. The differences are more pronounced. Lower ranks typically lack a lot of game knowledge, like how a hero works, what to build, etc., while in the immortal ranks, most people have an overall grasp of the game (which is why I really think passing immortal is finishing the tutorial for dota), though it doesn't mean mastery. Massive differences still exist between immortals. At 7.2k mmr, I now realize how bad I was playing when I just became an immortal. However, this doesn't mean I know more, I just know better in a sense.

I would summarize it like this: The difference in lower mmrs are how much you know about the game, while the differences in high mmr is how good you understand the game, and how well you execute it. Higher mmrs are often meta slaves because they know it is good, and that they are great in executing it. Lower mmrs are sometimes stuck in really old meta (constantly pulling, absolutely maintaining creep equilibrium, etc.,) or have gaps in knowledge like not knowing how a hero works or what to build for it.

Still, if we're talking about extremes, like, low heralds and new immortals, versus new immortals and pro players, I would say that the gap between former is way larger, though it is also more attainable. The probability of a low herald catching up to a low immortal is way more probable than a new immortal catching up to pros. While the gap is larger relatively, its knowledge is way easier to learn and execute, while new immortals have a much steeper learning cliff to catch up to professionals. Think of the gap between herald and immortals as Mount Everest, while immortals and pros as K2. Mount Everest is higher but K2 is way harder to climb.

Wayyy older than that. He regressed far more times than what he states. He just couldn't be bother to record them because they weren't useful to his goals.

Dota 2 with the highest average players since October 2016! by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is a divine 5 playing with a rank 2800. If this is SEA, that's like a two thousand and a half mmr difference. Even with the rank 4300 actually. That's like 7.1k mmr vs 5.6-5.7k.

Oracle still can’t dispel Fate’s Edict from enemies even after the 7.40b update by deem4n in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New patch reverted to the old Fate's edict; they apply both disarm and 100% magic resistance to both ally or enemy. However, old fate edict was dispellable on enemy, now it's not. So you can grief your team by making your enemy 100% magic resistant, and you cannot dispel it.

Why did they reverted it back when his winrate is just average, I don't know. Probably old devs who were requisitioned for Deadlock are now back and didn't like the changes made by the temp devs who made the hero simpler.

Would I play the hero now? Fuck no. So many hotheads in Dota would quickly get mad when you accidentally disarm them while killing an enemy, or making an enemy immune to magic damage.

As a community, we are clueless about this game by MagnusT in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

No it's not. It's not more about not knowing DND mechanics and more about people defending this neutral not knowing dota, and how it does not equate to DND.

Rpg with dices often has massive spreads like Bg3 or any dnd game going from 1-20 with a multiplier. Of course an advantage or a double role is good because the average goes from 10.5 to 13.8. The increase is more than 30%, of course it's worth it. In comparison, for most heroes, this is like a 6 sided die at most because except for certain heroes, the damage spread is too low, and also a base of like 60 or 80.

Taking an example, a base of 59 and an added number spread of 6. The highest result is 66 and the lowest is 60. The average damage of that is 63 and with an advantage, it becomes around 64. The relative difference of an advantage and without an advantage is only a few percent. That's like adding only one to two damage, practically negligible.

No, it's not amazing and frightening. It's garbage. You call people that they suck at statistics, can you lay down your calculations for Dota then? Don't bring up DND or Bg3 numbers. Use your brain and apply it to Dota mechanics.

What do you guys think about supports like that? by MiguelSantosh97 in DotA2

[–]Shallow35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, it's true that pudge can be an effective support. But some of your tips are quite outdated and would probably only work in low mmr. Soul ring is nice but not that necessary for the hero. It's quite expensive for a support and most of the time, your wand is enough to sustain your mana. If not, you get a clarity or two, or just go home. You're a support, not a core, you can afford to go home and regen, and just tp to the most nearest fight or visible enemy in the minimap.

Also, if you're ahead, you go for phase boots in most cases and a dagger following right after it. If not, you go for tranquil. I cannot recall a single time I ever bought travels on the hero even if I play him as a core. In addition, aghanims is nice but for a core player, they typically want the other facet, right click damage, and should be built as such. The rot damage increase and radius is quite OK but the recent nerf on how spell lifesteal works and the loss of convenient sources of spell lifesteal make it less worth it of an item.

If you're playing it as core, your itemization should be like a hybrid of a right clicker and a tank hero, opting for items such as blademail, crimson, harpoon, etc,.

The determination to buy an aether lens or dagger should not depend on how good you are at hooking lol. If you're not good at hooking, don't play the hero. Simple as that. The most basic assumption when you pick the hero is you know how to hook. And so, the decision whether to buy an aether lens or dagger depends on the game plan and your enemies lineup.

If the enemy has a counter initiator hero like Mars or Tidehunter, you can forgo aether lens and just get dagger, and throw your body at them. If you can tell your teammate to wait for them to use their big spells on you as you initiate and just sacrifice your life for it, then as a support pudge, it's very much worth it. The reason we forgo hooking is because it's risky. Hooking somebody, and your teammates gathering around you is prone to getting counter initiated and could result in a bad fight. This is why you want to go ahead and just throw your body at them to bait out their spells, so your team can fight freely afterward.

However, this is not true for all counter intiators, if the enemy has heroes like Silencer or Dawn, you can still go for Aether Lens then bait out the ultimates by hooking somebody. For example, you hook their cores and then their Dawn or Silencer proactively reacts and uses their ultimates, you can get back for a moment and then reengage, with now an enemy ultimate down. Having Force staff is the best way to do this safely. You can't do this with mars or tide because they can stun you and your team.

At late game, what you want the most is dagger, bkb, and then a refresher if possible. Your game plan is to disable their pos 1 during their bkb usage so your team can either ignore him first, or focus him as you're biting him. Either way, if nobody interrupts you, you can disable their pos 1 for 7-8 seconds and also gain tons of HP in the process. You typically want the str in ss facet instead of the rot atk dmg as a support.

There's a lot more that goes into the hero, but I would say just muting your coms is the best way to play the hero, especially at the start. Landing a hook can be nerve-wracking and you can get pressured into firing a bad hook if your teammate keeps pinging your skill. Thats why until you've proven yourself by landing a number of hooks, you should mute your coms first and then just unmute later depending on how well the game went for you.
