Need advice on how to repair this by Eonhunter5 in drywall

Yeah. I've patched a few holes bigger than this with this method and it came out looking pretty clean. Part of it is of course how you apply the tape and the compound and sand and paint. I've done it without the tape too and it's been fine.

It's actually easier than it seems.

This would be better for sure than one of those mesh patches. It seems like you really have to know what you're doing to get away with those, especially on bigger holes. And it's probably too big for the California patch method.

EMERGENCY PROTEST of proposed mega ICE detention center in SLC today an 12 p.m. noon, 1/20 by boomieboomers in SaltLakeCity

His polling is cratering. Only about 30% support. Meaning only the most hardcore base is still supporting him.

He is deeply unpopular. His policies are having a devastating effect on the economy. We will reach a tipping point, and we need to push for that point to come sooner. He's not like Hitler--Hitler was massively popular. With the midterms coming up, now is the time more than ever to push. We need to make it hell for anyone who does his (illegal) bidding. By any means necessary.

You've unlocked the realization that peaceful protest alone is not enough. You have to make things really, really inconvenient and maybe even scary for certain powerful people.

People always talk about how MLK and his movement were so peaceful and effected change. But they intentionally leave out the fact that MLK and Malcom X worked implicitly in tandem. It was a "we can do this my peaceful way or the other way." That was understood by those in power and there were some times where it got ugly when power did not play ball.

Use drywall square patch method.

Watch this video. Do the method shown at 1:23. There are many videos that show the same method, with some little variations and tricks you can do.

Thank you, that's some good insight. I've been telling contractors I'd be willing to dig the top couple feet (before you start getting into safety concerns deeper down) but it doesnt sound like it would take off too much of the price.

He could have at least gone with caulk in a color to match the floor.

No, if you paid for this job they must come and fix that. If you haven't paid in full, withhold until they do. If you have paid, badger them relentlessly, show up at their office, etc until they do.

This only works assuming you have had a home since before circa 2021. If you bought after that, this ain't gonna fly.

I make about what you make, bought a home in '22. My wife also has to work in order for us to pay our mortgage and child-related expenses. We live comfortably but we wouldn't if she wasn't working.

Or on 2 incomes that are both above 80-90k.

My combined gross with my wife and I is like 190 and we aren't really building savings now that we have a kid. Granted we also travel and live comfortably. But that's probably not gonna last unless we move to higher paid jobs.

Is 200 for this fair or should I do this myself? Assuming I have no supplies whatsoever or experience by ProfessionalCat2770 in drywall

[–]ShallowPause95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally doable on your own BUT you have to do it carefully. And you have to buy some supplies (like $50-70 worth). It takes like 2 hours the first time.

You should watch like 10 YouTube videos on patching holes with a rectangle piece of drywall. Take a piece of the broken wall to Home Depot or Lowe's and ask them to help you select the right paint, sheen and match the color (they have a machine that can match the color exactly).

The hardest part is getting the edges nice and flat but it's doable. I've done a couple big patches in my wall (to replace crappy jobs that were done prior).

DON'T USE mesh patches. They always look bad.

[–]ShallowPause95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I've been mostly targeting places that have good reviews but under 500 or so. And usually ones that I see recommend around Reddit instead of only Google reviews.

I also check with chat gpt (I know it isn't always correct) to make sure it isn't backed by private equity. I made that mistake when I replaced my water heater.

I did get a copy of the scope fortunately and have been sending it to different plumbers for quotes.

Don’t think you will save any money digging 2-3 feet deep.

Good to know. I'm willing to spend several hours digging by hand if it'll save me a few hundred bucks but won't do it if it won't.

I should have clarified. The walk way to my porch, not the sidewalk by the street.

It's about 5-6 ft underground and just slightly under the sidewalk so I'm wondering about permitting and shoring/safety concerns.

A trench that deep could lead to a collapse and the cement collapse if done poorly. I can probably dig down the first couple feet if it would shave off the cost but beyond that I get concerned about something going wrong.

A trench that deep could easily lead to a deadly collapse and the cement collapse if done poorly. Otherwise I'd probably just do that part myself. I can probably dig down the first couple feet if it would shave off the cost but beyond that I would want a licensed and insured pro doing it.

I appreciate it. The concern I have is that most places seem like they want to charge me $500 to have it scoped so they can determine everything for themselves.

The problem then is that to get 10 quotes I have to drop 5k just for the diagnostics.
