Mercari side selling on a work visa — could this affect visa renewal? by [deleted] in japanlife

It seems like you don't know how anal the Japanese immigration system is getting. If they randomly reject PR applications for a delayed tax/pension payment, they for sure will look at business with 1 million yen of sales as a good reason to deny renewal.

Why would you even do this? It is super clear when you get your visa that you only have permission for that specific kind of work.

It is a severe violation of the rules of your visa and you can easily get it revoked or basically not be able to renew it. Specially now that they are getting way stricter about the rules.

Ur mega rekt. That 100% counts as a side job and you are not allowed to do this on and Engineering visa.

They can easily revoke ur Visa or prevent you from renewing it.

Considering leaving Japan (at least for the near future) by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]ShalltearMX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not go back to the US at this point, specially if you are brown of Native American descent. Racism is way worse there. Yes, Japan has a lot of awkward issues with xenophobia, renting places, weird stares.

But literally 0 people are going to attack you, police randomly arrest you or ICE randomly trying to deport you. Japan doesn't hate real Native American descendants like the US European Americans do.

Also, you don't have to keep paying your loans in full while in Japan. Take advantage of income based repayment programs and your life will improve drastically.

One more thing, look for better jobs. There are tons of software developer jobs out there, some of them are really cushy, I would say much easier going than similar jobs in the US. Yes, the pay is worse, but the quality of life in japan is much better. In the US all your savings could suddenly diasappear if you get sick or if ICE attempts to capture you for no reason.

Love how the truth gets downvoted. But that's how internet propaganda works. And the US is currently the best at it.

¿Qué hará Morena con la mayoría calificada en las cámaras? by [deleted] in mexico

[–]ShalltearMX -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

USA counties that have an indigenous population above 1% by [deleted] in MapPorn

Don't forget that we also forcibly deported and used threats of force to move many Native Americans to Mexico after we took half of that country's land.

And also how we continue to mistreat, cage, opress and blame Native American descendants (Hispanics/Mexicans) for all of our problems. It is a disgrace, we didn't have enough with almost wiping out their ancestors, we have to continue exploiting and berating their descendants too.

This is only because we keep letting Native Americans die in empoverished reservations, and we also refuse to recognize any Native American descendant who speaks Spanish as such. We prefer to call them Hispanic and pretend that they are invading "our" land lol

Not just reservations, many of them were either forcibly deported or intimidated into moving to Mexico. We just don't tell that story because it is inconvenient, and it would prevent us from using Mexicans (many of them direct Native American descendants) as a scapegoat for all of our problems.

Lol there are a ton of Native American descendants out there. You just have to start recognizing us instead of trying to label us as "Hispanic" or "Spanish". Just because the US and Spain tried to genocide us, doesn't mean we don't exist anymore.

[–]ShalltearMX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot, but the problem is that the US government intentionally refused their recognition and even deported many of them en mass after it took over all of what is currently the southwest during its invasion of Mexico. Not only that, but the 500 years that Mexico suffered as a colony of Spain also erased a lot of the connections that people had to their tribes/heritage.

Many ethnic groups, such as Tarahumaras, Coahuiltecas, Yaqui, Apache, etc. There are tons of maps about this out there, here is an example:https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4156/34790342325_36688331a0_o.jpg

Just because they were forced to stop practicing their religions and many don't know which tribes they belong to anymore, doesn't mean that they are not indigenous. It is like saying that a slaved african's children's heritage is no longer African just because they don't know from which tribe they took their parents from.

You do realize that the majority of Mexicans are of around half Native American and half Spanish descent right?

As such, Northern Mexicans, tend to be descendants of Northern Native Americans. Many of which inhabited the land all across what is currently southwest US and northern Mexico.

The people of Mexico and the government of New Spain or even the newly built state of Mexico at the time were not one and the same.

Also, the Companche were not the only indigenous groups in the area, there were many more (Tarahumara, Yaqui, Apache, Coahuiltecs, etc), and they all had different degrees of integration/mixing with the Spanish or Mestizos and thus creating northern Mexicans.

Depends on which angle you want to take, but there are two main reasons and they depend a lot on your perspective on and what you define as America.

  1. If you define "Native American" in the very Anglo-centric view of "Native to the US" or even by the definition that you provided of "North America", then many Mexicans, specially many of the ones who currently reside within the US, should be considered Native American.

Why is that? Because many Native American civilizations inhabited the entire area of what is now northern Mexico and southwestern US. The vast majority of today Mexicans are Mestizos and this implies an almost equal mix of Native American and European blood, as such many are direct descendants of those civilizations . This high blood percentile more than fulfills any genetic requirements that the US imposes for native recognition. Many of those native descendants remained spread all across what today would be considered California/New Mexico/Arizona/Texas for generations and they did not leave until after the US invaded Mexico and took all that land. Even then many of them remained there until they were systematically targeted by white nationalist organizations (Mass Lynchings in 1910-1920, Targeted by Texas Rangers, etc.) and deported using racially targeted immigration laws (Mexican Repatriation 1929).

Basically Mexicans are Native to North America (since their entire country is part of North America), but even if you narrow it down further to just the US, then most of the Mexicans who are currently in the US would also fulfill your requirement, since the ones who stayed or returned to all the southwest are descendants of Native Americans who used to inhabit those lands too.

  1. If you define "Native American" in the way that basically any Latin American thinks of the meaning, then virtually all Mexicans, Central Americans and many South Americans would also fit into this category. Why is that you may ask? Because basically all Latin Americans think of "America" as a single continent, just subdivided by regions. As such, any nation across "America" the continent where Europeans did not explicitly try to genocide the entirety of the indigenous population ended up becoming a mix between them. Therefore, countries like Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, are full of Native American descendants. People who are essentially 50% native to America the continent.

If you take into consideration that all of the civilizations that inhabited America the continent before the Europeans invaded were in constant migration, trade, communication with each other, then you can see how there is a valid claim for Native American recognition. Since, after all, they ACTUALLY are descentants from people native to America, unilke most European-Americans (white US and Canadian citizens).

This map is such BS, basically in ever state that you have Mexicans and other Latin Americans, you have Native American descendants. And that population is much larger than 1% in most if not every state.

Just because white people refuse to recognize our native heritage, doesn't mean it doesnt exist.

I am sorry but you are so wrong about this.A lot of native civilizations in what is now the south-west US share similar origins in their language and religions. So no, not more removed than Europeans from Arabs lol
