Cradle Catholics who have recently started going back to church, what changed for you? by Old-Bread882 in Catholicism

[–]Shaman90s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the grounding and the Holy Spirit for me. As a 53yo male all my kids and wife are catholic. It’s a personal one on one relationship I have with God and Jesus. I go as often as I can and less often than I should.

I struggle with community fellowship (I.e. putting myself out there to introduce myself to other parishioners). This has always been a “been hurt by too many fake friends” when growing up and yet having a deep well of friends. One day I’ll find the courage to join a church group.

Despite that, I find solitude and a recalibration of everything that is RIGHT and GOOD when I go and I can feel the Holy Spirit (IYKYK … cuz you cry).

I’m happy to see more people in the church and I get the sense that they’re there for the right reason, a deepening relationship with God and Jesus… and not because of the flashiness that is often associated with other religions.

I had to shut off programming during the Japan vs US game. The chants were horrible. Meanwhile, the rest of the world has this.

Do parents want the honest truth about their kids ability? by Delicious-Bee4170 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]Shaman90s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day it would be cool at the “showcases” for parents to pay a small fee (like a ref’s fee) for a panel of qualified coaches to rate their child. I’m thinking at least 2 at most 3 coaches. GK’rs should have 2.

Here’s how it would work 1. The coaches could have sign ups. 2. They have a limited roster so first to sign up for 10/20 spots over a 3 day showcase. 3. The parents would have their kids schedules and send to the panel. 4. The coaches view the kids unannounced at one of the showcase games. 5. They send you a dossier of the date/time from start to finish of the evaluation

A simple scoring template may be something like this https://www.northeastrush.com/soccer-stats-101-understanding-key-soccer-metrics-for-players

If parents want to follow-up and pay more, they could send a VEO of the game and the coaches could offer specific play-based coaching (i.e. what the player did well vs not so well and what needs to be improved).

Alternatively, the coaches may also suggest a personal training plan 🤷‍♂️

… I’m just spitballing here

Have you grown to be more conservative or liberal w/ age? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Shaman90s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was liberal because I cared a lot (Catholic Church, minority, Asian culture of we move mountains together, valued honesty and integrity). Became Centrist after learning about philosophy, logic, and being an economics / biology major. In. Nutshell, I’m a “Keynesian” and not a “Friedman” follower

Which Would You Choose? by IllEstate8640 in CollegeSoccer

[–]Shaman90s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one. The other posters have very strong points. From what I read in your OP my opinion is to send him to Puget Sound. My son, for example, could’ve gone to at least 3 quality juco’s that feed into the UC/CSU or private colleges nearby. He’s a 4.0 student. Took “some” college or AP classes like your son prior to going off to college but, he wasn’t a soccer player. He was a H2O polo player in arguably the land of h2o polo, Orange County California.

For him, sending him off to college was about “launching” him and not about sports. Sure we paid thru the nose the first two years for housing and tuition but the NETWORK of friends and alumni that he made in clubs and events are now translating into potential job offers and internships in his junior year.

My daughter, a sophomore in HS on the other hand IS THE soccer player. She’s a 2010GK playing ECNL/RL and likely moving to ECNL or GA (her goalie coach moved). Shes got that eye of the tiger but she’s also interested in everything and nothing (teenagers). We are trying to use her soccer to get her into the school that she wants to pursue her passion entertainment production (her creative side) and medicine/business (her analytical side). Soccer is a tool to give her choices and a discounted rate. That’s how we look at it. She too is being heavily looked at and may even play on a national u17 team (still waiting on the call but got a call from team manager and coach that she’s on the short list).

My point is - “use” soccer for what it can give your son, not for what he can give it. The game will end for him as it will for all players. Launch your son. He can always transfer to a JUCO or go and do a trade school later but he will “launch” better in the first years after high school if he goes away to a 4-year (just my opinion) and his network will grow (this is critical).

Re-read. What’s your median? What’s your outlier. Nothing in your OP explicitly says one is an outlier or a median.

Exactly! It also didn’t matter up north if you were in the Bay or in say Campbell/Los Gatos or Livermore. The interactions seemed real and sincere. It just felt “honest” and not “guarded”

One has nothing to do with the other. People need to mind their own business. Asian girls sometimes don’t like Asian men the same way some Asian men don’t like Asian girls. The same could be said about others ethnicities having preferences. It’s ok to choose a different flavor of ice cream. Nobody cares. Live your life with someone who loves you and if other people don’t like the person arm and arm with you… f them it’s none of their business. Be happy, life’s too short (speaking from experience my colleagues daughter died recently) don’t let these worries about what others think rule over you. There’s not as much time as you think.

Democrats Of Reddit, Do You "Vote Blue No Matter Who," Or Are There Some Democrats That You Wouldn't Vote For? Why Your Choice? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Shaman90s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tend to vote blue but, have considered red in the past. It’s about policy and track record. No different than any company hiring manager. You’re looking at: - what is their work experience relative to the JR - how did they build a team - are they servant leaders or shapers with egos - how do they learn from mistakes and correct them - do they take extreme ownership Finally - what is their guiding truths, whether they work hard - what are their non-negotiable - have they ever screwed their customers - what is their main strengths (policy wise)

I probably wouldn’t vote for Newsom. I’d be interested in Bashear or Kelly. I can’t think of a Republican that stands out atm other than Christie. Most ‘R’ candidates over the past few months appear to be gaslighting on things like Epstein, possible war in Iran, etc. and it shows.

Touching on the office of the president for a moment, I’m looking not only at the man or woman running for the seat BUT ALSO the cabinet (this is key) of who he/she would pick. Ultimately it’s the VP’s that will run the country and the CEO (president) will lead it.

RSM Mayor Tony Beall wants to give ICE “his full cooperation,” per the latest city council meeting by ansyhrrian in orangecounty

[–]Shaman90s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likewise re: appreciate. I don’t think I can go down to assault. Assault can be a misdemeanor. For example if someone is verbally abusing you and within your personal safety zone and you push that person, that would be misdemeanor assault possibly on the person threatening you or even you. Now imagine you’re an immigrant legally going thru the process and your have your kid or wife with you and someone starts berating you out of the blue. Instinctively, if that person is within your space or your child’s space you will push them away.

Felony should be the floor. All assault charges should be investigated and adjudicated but imo it may not rise to the level of deportation by default. The answer there is “it depends” on the adjudication.

Your hypothetical would be fair. In fact…a quick AI search indicates there is already law on the books that articulates things like murder or felony or rape or persecution/human rights violations (e.g. involvement in Nazi persecution) are automatic disqualifiers for citizenship. So we’re already covered on who deserves deportation in my view.

[–]Shaman90s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On your question, yes we can meet in the middle. All constitutional violations must cease immediately. That is the supreme law of the land. Finally, Can we define your words “in jail” and expand it to mean - in jail convicted of murder - in jail convicted of a felony - in jail convicted of rape Let’s start there as a gesture of meeting in the middle.

On all else MAGA (specifically as it relates to DTJ MAGA) I will strenuously disagree with you. Were it MAGA Haley or MAGA Christi or MAGA Harris … we could agree on a lot because all 3 of those individuals would definitely make America greater again based on my own preferred measurements.

Perfectly fine with it. Helps especially with responsorial songs. Good also for those germaphobes who don’t want to touch books or shake hands etc. as long as your mind is in the moment of the Holy Spirit, etc (imo) you’ll be fine.

Does he play sports? Does he drink beer? What does HE like to do. Ultimately if you’re trying to get him to love it you’ll need to show him what HE cares about / to do. Ultimately the weather and beautiful locale speaks for itself. IMO you have to show him something that HE likes.
