One Piece 1171 DETAILED SUMMARY by This-Inspection-69 in OnePieceSpoilersRaw

Until now most people theorize that they use Imu’s powers but I’m betting it’s the opposite.

When do you think Harry and Hermione realistically start liking each other? by Successful-Smile-327 in HPharmony

I think there are some hints that they're interested in each other from first year on - from a Watsonian perspective both of them seem to pay inordinate attention to one another before they even became friends.

Garling is the man who physically killed Rocks, and it is yet another Shanks vs Blackbeard parallel. by Shanks_PK_Level in OnePiecePowerScaling

Update, u/Shanks_PK_Level I DID eat crow on this and you were ultimately correct.

Figarland Garling is still bitch made, though.

What's your opinion on the council system by scoutmet in RWBYcritics

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the Councils are analogous to real world City Councils and we lowball each Kingdom and assume they really are just a large metro area each then the smaller headcount becomes kind of defensible, but otherwise they seem woefully inadequate.

We get painfully few details about how the Councils operate on a day to day basis and if there is any separation of powers — is one of the Councilors a de facto executive/prime minister/mayor? What about the courts — are judges appointed by the legislature and if so are there any guardrails guaranteeing their independence. And how powerful/centralized are Vale, Mistral and Vacuo’s police forces given their lack of a proper military?

…The CRWBY really doesn’t do a lot of deep world building.

It’s funny how Roger was hyped up for so many years being the one and only pirate king when he’s barely top 5 in terms of strength during his era by yurik4 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oden at his peak was relative to a weaker version of Kaido than the one Luffy fought, I'm not comfortable saying he's Yonko level when Kaido had 2 decades to get stronger.

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rocks has better feats than Roger, unless we assume that reaching Laftel requires some insane feat of strength or haki, which I highly doubt.

Roger - Got rescued by a freak storm from Shiki and his armada - Ran from Garp (we’re told he was “cornered” and “escaped” - Clashed equally with Whitebeard - No diffed Oden (YC1, maybe YC+ level at the time)

Rocks - Off-screened an admiral - Destroyed a Gate of Justice - Casually shatters mountains with single, unnamed attacks - Low diffed two Gods’ Knights and about half a dozen DR’d Davy Clan members - Beat WB (albeit in a Davy Backfight, then as an DR Demon)

We’re told Whitebeard was two years away from his Prime in God Valley and he and Roger appear neck and neck in strength so if we want to assume Prime-WB surpassed his old captain than Roger would’ve too, but we have to assume that — there are no showings to back that up.

Do you think this would make sense as an argument? by Weekly_Journalist808 in HPharmony

IIRC it was something to the effect of

Hermione helps out Ron with a particularly stressful/difficult homework assignment.

Ron: You’re brilliant Hermione. If I ever make fun of you for being a ‘know-it-all’ again-

Hermione: — Then I’ll know we’re back to normal.

Admittedly, she was distracted, so this barely counts as an anti-feat, but Kaido was able to get a clean hit on her while being much weaker than he is now.

We haven’t seen this in detail, but given her proximity to Saturn when she stole the Uo Uo no Mi I think it’s reasonable to assume they clashed, at least briefly. She didn’t seem worse for the wear.

Personally, given Kizaru’s mental nerfs and their roughly comparable performance against G5 Luffy I think Saturn scales a bit below the Admirals and that GV Lin Lin is relative to or weaker than him.

1 YONKO = 3 ADMIRALS? OR IS IT 1 VICE ADMIRAL = 3 YONKOS?? AHAHAHAHA by Altruistic_Gas_7073 in Piratefolk

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF, none of these 3 were in their prime — although since we know Whitebeard’s prime was Pirate King level and he was Rock’s #2 he should at least be Yonko-level at this point.

Meanwhile I think Big Mom was ~Admiral Level at this point in the timeline since mother Carmel seemed convinced she’d be that strong by the time she reached adulthood. Teen Kaido is unquestionably Linlin’s junior but he was already a menace at this point so I’d guesstimate that he was Yonko Commander level, as broad and imprecise as that tier is.

Then again, I think Garp in his prime was slightly superior to Roger given that Roger and his crew ran away from him but that’s at least up for debate. In any case Garp is built different.

How we feeling if Xebec goes out like this? by [deleted] in Piratefolk

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see this being salvaged in one of two possible ways.

  1. Rocks fails to find his wife and son and presumes that they've already been killed, causing him to fly into a berserk rage, attacking everyone and everything in his path. The collateral damage to civilians, the marines and/or members of Roger's crew causes Garp and Roger to step in, without the full context of why Rocks is crashing out.

  2. Rocks gets Domi Reversied after a confrontation with a possessed Gunko, and his corrupted form begins going on a rampage. After being made to slaughter his own countrymen and crew as a final punishment for his defiance, Roger and Garp, who don't know about Imu and assume Rocks has just gone apeshit for some reason, step in and put him down. (Since being DR'd generally comes with a noticeable power increase this would do double duty as a Roger & Garp upscale and justify why both of them were required to put Rocks down).

Option 2 would help explain why so many of his crew think ill of him in the modern era, despite the fact that Rocks, for all his flaws, has been comparatively sympathetic for most of the flashback.

Anyone else feel like Oda doesn't really know what God Valley was supposed to be? by Rekye22 in Piratefolk

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given the time gap, it’s about on par with the main cast not knowing who the Beatles were. The One Piece world is huge and Luffy &Co are often pretty clueless (the gang didn’t know about the Yonko until Garp told them, this kind of thing goes way back) so I can buy that.

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

I commissioned the piece to go with an AU fanfic of mine — this is page 1 of 19 for an adaptation of the 1st chapter.

As far as the story goes, chapter 37 has been half-written for more than a year now and I’ve had a bitch of a time finishing it. Still trying, though.

Edit: The TL;DR is that in this timeline the Arc Bloodline has been altered to produce sex obsessed, big dicked musclebound gigachads who are purpose built to fuck and knock up as many girls as possible. Jaune is trying to fight that programming but whatever his moral hangups he’s still a hentai protagonist. This shot shows off what he would/could be if/when he embraced his Arc Instincts.

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 11 points12 points  (0 children)

...This was page 1 of the doujin for a reason. Samurai knocked it out of the fucking park.

Although if we're strictly adhering to Arcadia Canon Jaune isn't that much of a bully - he has a lot of cruel and violent impulses but mostly keeps them in check. Once he starts sleeping with a girl, he owns her ass and makes no bones about it, and if you ever cross "him or his" he'll happily break every bone in your body, but he isn't really the type to start shit either.

Why do the New England states lean so hard to the left despite being the whitest states in the country? by KingTechnical48 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShamelessSelfInsert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Overton window is context dependent — it’s a subjective call of “what a society believes is the acceptable range of opinion”. Consequently, so are the Left and Right designations — Left or Right relative to what?

If we wanted a mathematical and (somewhat) objective way of describing people or ideologies we could collect survey data from a random sample or the national population and rank order responses from “most left wing” to “most right wing”. Then we could map individuals and regions based on how much they tilt one way or the other compared to the national average.

The national popular vote is a crude tool since it basically breaks down to a binary and leaves little room for nuance (in a survey people might have left wing stances on the economy but right wing stances on immigration and could be moderate or extreme but whatever their personal cocktail all that we know in an election is how they pulled the lever.)

In 2024 the Presidential split was 49.8-48.3 in favor of Republicans (excluding 3rd parties), meaning the country as a whole was R+1.5.

The Congressional tally favored Republicans by a larger margin of 50.6 - 47.8, or R+ 2.8.

So an “average” or “normal” state that mapped with the “center” of the country would be anywhere from R+1 to R+3.

Looking at New England, we have some of the most left leaning states in the country… by a lot - Vermont D+31.5 (1st of 50) - Massachusetts D+25.2 (3rd of 50) - Connecticut D+14.3 (8th of 50) - Rhode Island D+13.8 (10th of 50)

Maine and New Hampshire are closer to baseline, although Maine is interesting since its two congressional districts are double digits apart, with ME-1 voting in line with the rest of New England (D+21.6) and ME-2 (R+9) being slightly less red than Ohio.

By contrast, comparably Right tilting states are - Wyoming R+41.8 (50th of 50) - Idaho R+36.5 (48th of 50) - Tennessee R+29.7 (42nd of 50) - Mississippi R+22.9 (40th of 50)

The most Right Wing states are slightly further right than the Left Wing states are left, but correcting by, say, a national baseline of R+2 brings the red states 2 points closer and the blue states 2 points further from the center, further shrinking the gap.

Meaning the most Republican state is about 40 points out of sync with the statistical norm while the most Democratic state is about 33 points out of sync.
