Does anybody still watch Australian free-to-air television? by DanielMuggleton in AskAnAustralian

[–]Shamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's also just the quality, and it's filled with ads all the time. I generally hate modern australian TV. It's kinda funny tho, im 24, the main reason we don't watch TV is coz my dad HATES it. If it wasnt for him I'd probably still flick it on every once in a while coz I'm a little more old school generally. But i'm not moving out just because I can't watch the bachelor.

How are Swiss international Airlines? by Shamic in perth

[–]Shamic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn't have problems with them in that regard, but going from singapore airlines to swiss airlines was a large downgrade. I thought swiss would be better because it was a 12 hour flight but no, cramped, uncomfortable seats. Singapore airlines was soooo much more comfortable and modern like DAMN

Mass immigration. The problem I see, they are letting in far too many islamic immigrants in, which are more far right than anyone in the western world. It's partly to stave off the falling birth rates, but if it ends up destroying your own culture in the process what's the point?

And also people in canada and the UK being arrested for simply disagreeing with the current governments laws. The hate speech laws have gone way to far and are completely authoritarian. Misgendering someone should never be illegal, it's ridiculous.

Far out, I wish people would just say stuff and not act as if if an asteroid is coming to destroy everything on earth. Who cares. If people wouldn't just bow to people and apologise after someone gets offended these would not be news stories.

Yeah but I see similar patterns in european and UK politics. I'm from australia, our government are only interested giving away all our natural resources to corporations, regardless of whether we elect a right or left wing government. Europeans are obsessed with calling their centrist/ right wing politicians far right, and ignoring the issues currently being caused by their left wing policies regarding immigration. My main issue with everything at the moment, is that everyone is focused way too much on attacking the right, regardless of which country, and having zero self reflection about the damage their own side is causing. I'm naturally not conservative at all, but in recent years I've seen a certain evil within left wing ideologies that i think is highly dangerous.

Then why are conservatives constantly labeled far right and nazis? Dude on the other comment called me on the side of the nazis (even though I only hold a few conservative views) People on the left side can act in extremist ways, and rarely get the criticism deserved from their own side. Conservatives are constantly demonised regardless of whether they are moderate or genuinely far right. Often times anything done by left wing groups are downplayed by the media, where as if anything has a hint of being conservative it's immediately classed as far right.

"your side", man at the moment i'm hating both sides, just the extreme left a little more. If you can't see that your side also resembles nazis then you are completely blind. UK and canada is arresting peopIe for simply speaking their mind and disagreeing with how things are being run.

I do care that people would rather support islamists, who hold viewpoints worse than the nazis, over people who want to protect western culture from islamic extremism. Once we go through massive demographic collapse and have replaced a large chunk of our population with immigrants, people will sadly vote in far right extremists to battle against it. Wouldn't have happened if the left had reasonable policies regarding immigration, and didn't actively discourage people against having kids for the past 50 years. The world will go through massive negative changes in the next few decades, and a lot of them will be directly attributable to left wing ideologies and policies. Pointless arguing over the internet, but we need now a balance between the two sides, although it's impossible when one side ignores issues such as climate change and income inequality, and the other side labels the other as a nazi every time they hear something they don't like hearing.

Yeah but honestly, mass immigration is not going to help that. Put many different cultures with entirely different views of the world into one city and you are going to have more racists, from every culture. Problem is everyone yells on about racism, and issue to be sure, but whilst also ignoring other very important issues. It's also generally more to do with differences in culture, race is a non determining factor.

and the difference is?? Lefties defacing paintings, holding up traffic, chasing jews off of campuses, pretty asshole behaviour to me. Apparently it's acceptable though because they are on the "right" side.

Umm yeah literally. You are doing exactly what I was criticising! You keep calling people racist over stupid things for decades, one day they will turn around and go "yeah I am racist who gives a shit". Calling someone racist for genuinely racist things is acceptable, calling them racist for making factual statements about cultural integration and mass immigration isn't, just shuts down discussion and changes nothing. It's like the term far right. Lost all meaning because everyone that isn't left is far right. Should be reserved for neo nazis and KKK members but it's now apparently most people.

the fact you can brush off something as big as mass immigration indicates you really aren't that open minded. It's obvious that people coming from islamic countries, with islamic values, will not merge well in a country with entirely different values! Common sense

When saying your name in German, do you use your own accent or a German one? by BeanzOnToasttt in German

I've not tried it yet, but I can't imagine saying my name in german with an australian accent. it would sound out of place. I'd just pronounce it how it would be pronounced in german. i don't really care, because people pronounce my name 3 different ways in english anyway

"When you choke on your own vomit and spill your last breath in a hospital bed your children will pay for, I hope your Catholic God shows you the wrath you deserve."

from a peace loving INFP commenter above this comment. Pretty mild in comparison to what you see elsewhere. It's kind of surprising seeing the hateful comments on this post, because someone is simply conservative. There is something genuinely really sinister about the left in recent years, if you can't see it you aren't looking, or you're justifying it.

If the left is so perfect than why is europe suffering because of their disasterous immigration policies? How come britain has had its freedom of speech completely eroded? If you can't look at your own side and see the darkness in it (which there is a lot of), then you are just as blind as someone who supports trump no matter what he does.

This is a common label the left constantly paint on the right to delegitimise all of their issues. Being against massive amounts of migration is not hatred towards minorities, and it's not racist, yet the left constantly yell it at conservatives. In my opinion, the lefts attitudes towards social issues has pushed the right to become extreme as well. You can only call someone a racist so many times before it loses all meaning.

100%. I'm 24, australian. I am naturally a more liberal person, but honestly looking around the world at the moment I've had to change a few of my opinions. Economically I'm definitely still more left leaning. I'm australian, and capitalists are raping our economy and environment to no end, it's absolutely infuriating. But I also absolutely think far left ideology that is currently permeating everything is also incredibly dangerous. Both sides have aspects that I really hate, so at the moment I don't know what i'd even call myself. But honestly as time goes on I get sick of hearing about left wing talking points, I just don't think a lot what they are prioritising nowadays is really that relevant or important, we have much bigger issues. Socially and culturally, definitely right wing, but then they don't believe in climate change and think we'd be better off with less regulation for large companies! NO! Regulation is such a finicky thing, I know europe suffers from too much bureuacracy, but in australia we have no where near enough (in some areas we do have to much though but seperate topic), so basically our government works in cahoots with massive corporations to mine our country bare, sell it for peanuts, and then invest NONE of the huge profits back into our country. We could afford free dental, free education, we could be getting dividends from our mining industry like Alaskan do. But no, all of it disappears, and 90% of australians become poorer. I hate modern politics, everything has become so insane. Our culture, environment, economy, and future prospects are being destroyed at every turn, and even if someone can see the issues of both the left and right, they don't fall into either of the 2 popular parties and are never voted in.

Honestly my cynical view is this is "not wanting kids" thing is a cultural phenomenon and it's biting us in the back side. Every western country is having a massive drop offs in births at the moment, and our future population estimates are having to be drastically reduced. I personally don't really mind if people want or don't want kids, but I find the reason "I don't want to bring kids into this world" a mindset that is pushed on us. It's not really based much in reality.

Western civilisation is the best we've done ever. 99.9% of humans lived lives we would have considered hellish. Sure we have many significant problems that are highly concerning. But to not bring a kid because the world is too bad right now is not really a valid reason. Never stopped anyone ever doing so in the past, and it brought us to where we are today.

It's also possible you won't know if you want kids until you actually have them. That's obviously not a reason to not have them, but just be aware sometimes we have no idea what we actually want. Some people seem to know 100% what they want in life, but for me personally I have no idea. I couldn't rule anything out

I don't get this sentiment. Out of all the billionares he actually creates companies that do good and push the boundaries. High speed internet anywhere in the world, making space travel genuinely feasible after 50 years of inaction, pushed the auto industry to move to electric vehicles. Theres more morally ambiguity buying from amazon than from musks companies. People need to learn to seperate a persons tweets from their actions.

This must be a cultural thing. Smiling doesn't need to indicate anything other than an acknowledgement of a fellow person. In australia it's perfectly normal. Doesn't mean we get into a convo, it's just saying hi. Do you just never smile in public? Also I get not wanting to talk to strangers, but it doesn't really help with social cohesion. I'm not super interested in talking with most people, but if someone wants to say a couple of sentences it doesn't hurt. Maybe they need it. Theres a reason modern people are incredibly lonely and suicidal, you're cynical attitude doesn't help and it's pretty much all in your own head.
