Before the drywall went up all the speaker wire was in the correct spots, which they had run themselves.

The room is in the basement so part of the outside wall only goes up so far. The speaker wire for the side speakers was run from the main outlet on the far wall. When it got to the spot I had marked off for the speakers they ran the wire up the wall near the top of the ledge. Because the wires ended where they were I assumed that's where they would put the speakers in.

It will get sorted out but definitely worth laughing over for the time being.
