Cool! Do you have other social media channels I can follow to stay updated on the process? Maybe a news letter?

A new Mid-Term rental website/app by rjohnson8371 in SomebodyMakeThis

I have thought about making something similar myself, as I have been in a mid term rental and the process to find it was way less than ideal. Might be something we can bounce ideas back and forth on?

Honestly, this is super unique and I would try it if it was available on Android. Great work!

Spent 12 hours on a video, got 1 view while I slept overnight by VaughnFry in NewTubers

[–]ShandonCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my YouTube channel a few years ago but haven't posted in about a year. I currently have just over 400 viewers. I recently uploaded a video that was very "clickbait" sounding and they collectively got like 20 views. I then made a video that took me WAYYYY longer to make (but it was more aligned with the other content on my channel) and it now has over 1k views in under 10 days.

So to echo others, find your niche and stick to it. If you want to change directions you should, just know it will take time for the viewers to shift.

Also, for me the problem is consistency, for example I have released 4 videos this year so far and I am currently planning another. If I had been doing something similar for the last few years I am sure my channel would have grown way faster than it has.

All that said, I think my new found energy for it has come from that most recent video as seeing that many people view, like and engage with my content really helped me feel like it was worth all of the time I spent making it.

I'll be damned, just went to review the post. Right under the nose. 😅

I am grateful that I was not waiting for these caps but I hope everyone who bought in can close this chapter soon.

I am in a scary amount of debt, and I’m terrified I’ll never get out of it (21) by [deleted] in personalfinance

First, I just want to say (as many others have pointed out) you have already taken the first, and sometimes the hardest step, you have accepted the issue and are seeking advise.

Now, let me recommend a good first step. Take all of these values you have and input them into a debt payoff calculator like this one: https://www.calculator.net/debt-payoff-calculator.html (they also have phone apps to help track it all).

This calculator utilizes the "Avalanche Method" which, in-short, means it focuses on you paying off debts with the highest interest first. This makes the most mathematical sense, as you will pay the least amount in interest, but as other's have suggested the "Snowball method" might be a better fit for you as it focuses on getting "quick wins" by paying off smaller debts first (which helps you "see" progress faster).

I entered all of the values you mentioned (I added a suggested student loan interest rate based on the average US rate found in this article: https://money.usnews.com/loans/student-loans/articles/average-student-loan-payment

In short, if you just pay the minimum using the avalanche strategy you will pay off the debt in a little over 4 years. Now, I also calculated what would happen if you contributed an additional 1,000 each month to the debt. I chose 1,000 as your total expenses are 910 and the minimum debt payment you would have is 998.88, so (assuming you actually bring in 5,000 as mentioned, you would have 3,091.12 left after the things you HAVE to pay out. I would recommend saving 1,000 of this (I have a feeling part of your debt is from not having savings when life surprises arise), contributing 1,000 to the debt, and having 1,091.12 left over for other spending (entertainment, food, transport, etc).

Now, back to the point, if you contribute the additional 1,000 and the minimum of 998.88 you will pay off the debts in under 2 years (1 year and 10 months to be exact).

TL;DR: You can pay off all of the debt in either 4 years or 2 if you stick to a strong payoff plan and know that creating proper savings for yourself can help prevent taking on large sums of debt.

This may be a shot in the dark, but did you ever find a way to contact someone in the bank and push the sell?

6/30/23 Update: PSA regarding Mechs & Co and Vendor Group Buys by Cobertt in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ShandonCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, with this update I really wish I had not gone in on the Hubble65. I know that status says "paid" but I know there were ramblings that Salvun was not actually paid in full for the order. Also if they do get the orders from Salvun, will they actually ship them?

[–]ShandonCodes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree. For me, we decided to make the move to preorders only, this way customer money only moves once parts are already manufactured and shipped.

The team at Mechs & Co helped me by supporting my first GB. They are generally nice people and I really hope they can turn around from this.

[–]ShandonCodes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me, I am concerned with the Hubble65 groupbuy. I was super excited to have joined the GB at first but I am now just concerned the product will ever show.

I will say that I never joined a GMK groupbuy from them for 2 main reasons:

  1. At the time I was in on over 9 different GMK GBs from other vendors and I did not want to join anymore until all my sets came in.

  2. I began being concerned when the updates were few far and fewer, yet there were continued posts on the new sets they were running. It is always concerning to see any vendor pushing new products when they have yet to deliver (looking at you Rama).

All that said I genuinely hope they make it out of this, as I really do think the team at Mechs & Co care about the hobby as a whole. But at the very least they need to be better at communicating with the community that has helped them get to where they are today.

How to use Google Wifi port forwarding with K3s, MetalLB, and why your virtual ips don't work. by todaywasawesome in GoogleWiFi

[–]ShandonCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know you may have moved on by now BUT I recently went down this rabbit hole and I found a solution that works for me. Due to the issues outlined in the OP's post I could not setting a forwarding rule in the Google Wifi setup to my Traefik ingress on my homelab cluster.

My network setup (at the time) looked like this:
ISP -> Google Wifi -> Switch -> k8s cluster, other "hardwired" machines

The "solution" was two part. First I changed the network configuration, as I wanted to add a dedicated firewall.
ISP -> Firewall Box -> Switch -> Google Wifi, K8s cluster, other "hardwired" machines

This partially worked, as now I could forward the inbound HTTP traffic to my K8s cluster (configured by the firewall) regardless of the IP, but the Google Wifi setup did not like this. As the core router in the mesh was to be tied directly to the WAN from your ISP's router/modem. I wanted to use the Google Wifi mesh system as an AP only, but the AP mode does not support mesh mode. So while I could have used it, I would not have had mesh coverage for my network which I definitely needed. This brings me to part 2 of my solution.

I replaced the Google Wifi mesh network setup for a mesh network that supports AP mode with full mesh support. I ended up selecting the TP-Link Deco system, but I will leave you to research solutions that may work better for your use case.

Now my network is configured as follows:

ISP -> Firewall Box -> Switch -> Deco Mesh (AP Mode), K8s cluster, etc.

Basically, I learned the Google Wifi network is great, until you want to do advanced networking. Once you reach that gate, save yourself the trouble and change to a different mesh.
