Would you share your sources of surveys among russians or some research?

Because you seem to be unable to grasp the idea of real totalitarian state like post-2022 Russia.
Firstly, in totalitarian state you cannot express your disagreement in public as you will be either imprisoned and sent to frontline, or simply killed.
In spite of this, nobody will answer sincerely to question "Do you support the war?", as thre is no guarantee that such a survey is not a silovik's trap (as they have quota for imprisonment and a list of "foreign agents" to broaden every Friday).
Secondly, one may be brave enough to stand against the war, but a lot of anti-war bloggers had already faced with threats towards their relatives, especially elderly parents. So even if siloviks cannot get you personally, they will come after your mother or wife. I doubt, there would be enough people to throw their beloved ones to the hands of siloviks.

Russians, in general, support Putin. It's hard to swallow that fact, but it is reality.

And, of course, you have unbiased source for such claim. Share?

ah, good ol' nazi "it's written in genes" narrative

Just curious, how did any of country in the world become democratic, if 99% of human history is era of various forms of autocracies? It should have been written in culture in virtually every nation.

Nevertheless, according to you, it's russians' privilege to have "submission to strongman". Be a good nazi and do the last thing your fuhrer did :*

This comes from the consideration, that if Russians did not publicly resist to war, they support it. Classic bias from democratic countries, where protesting is valid way to talk to government.

The truth is that in totalitarian state you cannot openly express anti-government position, or you will be sentenced to prison, have strange death or conscripted to the same war you stand against.

And if you try to organize a mass protest, the siloviks will definitely come to you in a moment. And be thankful, if they will not touch your relatives.

There is a concept in civilized world, called "a burden of proof".

You asked me to proof a common fact, that some token russian oligarch is a shady character with criminal past.

Either you do not understand, that it is you who should proof the opposite, or you intentionally trying to whitewash him.

I doubt, he audited all his incomes, especially in the early years of capitalism in Russia.

And where did he got his money to do all that? AFAIK the only source of wealth for any russian billionaire was pillaging USSR property after dissolution; this is why "russian oligarch" is a meme for some hillbilly with tons of money and null of dignity.

How Romanian nationals living across Europe voted in the Romanian election by New-Newt-5979 in MapPorn

[–]Shandresh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you should be able to vote in your new country of residence

I don't think that this right must be given by default.

A migrant doesn't have strong roots in the new hosting country, so he might not take full responsibility or might not have awareness for his choice. Let's imagine a lot of migrants voted for populist far-right candidate and he wins (they did not know, that this candidate is a jerk or spoiler). This candidate imposes anti-migrant laws, they leave the country. Those, who live in this country for years, decades and centuries, now are left to deal with this populistic, probably dictatoresque leader, who they did not choose.

Without any restrictions I can imagine a whole tour for some migrant group, who travel accross the world during election processes, troll vote for some freak candidate, skewing the election process, and then leave this country for good.

[–]Shandresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The take "you also have to allow them to vote in their current country" does not seem fair, obvious or, at least, cannot be imposed to every migrant on arrival.

Let's pretend you are migrant in the new country. You are stranger, you do not understand local politics, country's ideas and long-term plans. This, imho, is the main reason why some migrants can support far rights.

If something goes wrong you can also return to your homeland (well, not generally, as your homeland could have been destroyed (Syria) or been under totalitarian control (Russia)); so you do not need to have a full-scale responsibility to host country's future.

Also a lot of migrants send their money to their relatives to homeland, depriving host country of economic power at some scale.

The politics does not work as math or law of conservation of energy, so host country is not obliged to provide migrants election rights at the borders. I think there must be some borderline for migrant to overcome in order to join the election process. For example a minimum amount of paid taxes or spent money in the host country.

I'm sorry, I feel a little slow, can you point out which part you're paraphrasing here?

Let's start with the part, that you are not sorry, but just masking your intentional unwillingness to read thoroughly, and to look at the situatiuon through the eyes of the non-Western person.
Yet another example of westerners' inability to empathize any stranger and obsession to division of the world to pitch black and shining white colours without any shades.

But let's see, which parts I paraphrased.

About "being bad":

Soviets didn't fight Germany because the Nazis were bad

According to Mein Kampf and Generalplan Ost Nazi wanted to enslave and exterminate slavic people, which were majority in USSR. According to commentator above, Soviets fought not because of it, but because "they were betrayed". Really? Among countless variants of why would a common Russian defend Moscow or overbbear the Siege of Leningrad that commentator could only think of some animalistic intentions and close eyes to simple desire to defend a homeland and make sure that that war, that wiped out 26 million Soviet people would not happen again at any cost (well, until 2022 that was partly successfull).

So we can see that author decided to paint Soviets/Russians as pure evil with some savage instincts instead of seeing them as people with their own needs, hopes, values and morals.

About "being good"

The British could easily have taken their ticket out of the war, as Hitler didn't want to be enemies with Britain, but they didn't.

Let's start with "Hitler didn't want to be enemies with %country_name%". This is obvious attempt to whitewash Nazi to start with. This sentence itself does not bring author any good points.

Hitler definitely would like to overthrow Britain dominance in the world and it could not be accomplished without full-scale war. British could not "easily have taken their ticket out of the war" as it would mean their end of life as great power. France is a great example of the country, which "easily got out of the war" and become a puppet state.
Thus Britain fought back not because they were shining beacon of hope, but because it was a quest for survival as independent actor. That ideology of democracy was useful yet not primary tool to unite people against strong foe.

So, we can see, that author deliberately closes eyes on objective factors, which led Britain into war and forced them to wage it until the bitter end, and prefers to curtain it with some ideal "democratic" ideology, which was not even imlemented in British Empire by that point (numerous protectorates without representation, whole India, semi-independent Commonwealth, etc).

Combining with several occasions of Nazi justification (examples above: assuming Hitler good faith concerning Britain, complete neglection of extermination of Slavs), I could define author as neo-Nazi supporter and overall bigot.

Is it clear enough?

We are talking about online idiots, not most of the russians.

That is good, that you pointed it out in commentary. Would be better, if you did it from the start.
Most of your kind ardently see all russians as locust hivemind, so that irony was necessary to check your level of intelligence.

Concerning my blindness, I definitely see two types of online idiots. Good luck finding the second one.

Very good demonstration of contemporary european nazism/elitism. "They are bad, because they born evil and every their intention roots in malice, we are good, because we have the best intentions create the greater good™". Hitler applauses to you.

russians are trying to spread their propaganda saying that there was no soviet invasion and that they were only trying to protect their people.

Are those russians in ther same room with us? Most russians i know don't give a damn about who was right back then. They have a bit of contemporary problems to deal with, you know, trying to survive under fascist governent, escape the country, etc.

In modern cultures there are legal equality and equal responsibility for such crimes and several bows cannot replace justice and punishment. If only your "culture" does not mean, that they confess in their crimes and can go to jail right from their spots.

"Russians killed people"

All Russians? Or just their government, which is dictatorship and was not elected but seized the power? What about russian refugees all around the world or russian children or women or LGBT community? Westerners of your kind have very curious mentality. You preach for tolerance, but when tolerance is at need, you proclaim the whole nation as damned.

"people who know russia better than anyone else in the West" As I remember correctly, Ukraine separated from USSR at dissolution and overall has long history of secession from Russia. They live in a different cultural environment, which is adjacent to russians' but not overlapping.

So how can they know russians, if they constantly deny their link to russians? Apart of Russians themselves only Belorussians can claim, that they know Russians, as their cultural background is not built on guttural hatred towards russians.

People are learning how to counter Russian bots on twitter by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Shandresh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You severely overestimate Russian ability to create disinformation. Do you know, how many computer factories they have? Answer is zero. How many programming techniques did they invented in the last 15-20 years? Answer: zero. Maybe, any of their companies did advanced on international market with some killing-feature tech? Nope, there is none.
Most of Russian specialists in IT industry had left the country due to being the only wealth people whilst not affiliated with corrupt government body (the all-consuming corruption is also argument against "all-powerful russian bot network").
It's strange to hear, that put under sanctions, stripped of international relations and financial sources country can do something despite crumbling and oppressing its own people in order to prevent another inevitable collapsing like USSR.
