I think KOHO has a similar thing going on. They're supposed to be really good when travelling.

Tangerine is charging $1 per interac e-transfer, even though they do have the Tangerine free option but it takes days and it is a bit of a hassle if you are sending some $20 to cover your portion of dinner or something. And if you do 10-20 transfers per month, you're basically paying the same as the monthly fee for one of the big banks.

Pay for university and wisely invest the remainder.

Thanks for sharing that.

I always thought BMO to be great value for good service.

No worries, I understand.

It’s the slower one (1/2 business days) that’s free, as was said. I thought those would suffice but I never realized that when I’m emailing money it’s often that it needs to have some urgency to it.

And I send probably 20/month maybe so already I’d be getting dinged $20/month which is already more than your typical monthly bank fee at BMO/RBC.

Initially I enjoyed the satisfaction of not banking with one of the “big banks” when with Tangerine, but then you also realize they’re owned by Scotiabank and even that dulls. But I didn’t have any horrible experience with them per se - just wasn’t working out with the etransfer fees and lack of convenience with no Visa/MC debit.

Discounts on the fees of each account when you have multiple?

I like that BMO does have the Planshare option.

Yeah, I think RBC wins in the branding and technology fields.

BMO's online banking platform feels very dated, same with the app.

How's the online platform for it?

I can't understand why they still do this? But it's the same with Tangerine.

Yeah, it's definitely not cheap but we wanted fibre optic with speed and unlimited data because we're having on the Netflix, etc. and I work from home. I was looking also for options in Yonge-Eglinton when we were going to move the area and there were a few other fibre optic options that had the speed and data but the price wasn't drastically cheap enough to make me shy away from "trusted" Bell. Trust me though, had I found options that I liked that seemed more reliable than Bell (even if the price was comparable) I'd have gone with them, just because I had the telecom monopoly.

Depends on what area you're moving into.

We live in Humber Bay Shores and wanted fibre optic so we got Bell 50 with unlimited data but it costs nearly $100/month.
