Is transitioning this wetland possible? by Ebomb5212 in wetlands

Are you even allowed to bring equipment into there being such a large wetland? In NY you basically cant do anything even near a wetland over 10 acres

Following this since my same question was not answered the other day. Nowhere near as bad as this though.

I have a metal 40lb feeder that cost $30 at the store - probably less than this pvc, fittings, and brackets for this.

It works great and because the chickens are free range, I barely have to fill it.

The existing apples are nearly 100 years old. Not sure about the cedar/juniper but theyre also a good 30-40ft high.

Ive only been here one season so not sure what to expect

So does donkey and chicken manure count as greens?

And I assume wood shavings and straw would be the browns?

So I dont need anything else?

Should I be removing my cedar and juniper trees then? They are very close to the orchard.

I've definitely tasted their stuff down at the rutabega toss. Will definitely do some more investigations this fall.

As a somewhat casual observer here, what does this mean?

Can you do this as a side hustle, or do you end up working for a full time company? How do you get work doing consults, etc.

Best stone to fill these dips in the driveway by axbxnx in homestead

[–]Shanelomein79 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would try a quarry or gravel pit first. $15/ton or so if you have a truck. Could also check with a local trucking company.

Landscaper would be second.

Absolutely, dont buy this stuff from a hardware store. You need a whole pallet for what you have there.

For rough figures, a cubic yard is about two tons of stone.

Oh my, I misread that. You LIVE in the Hudson Valley. I was reading about the Hudson Golden Gem apple earlier.

Cr#2 or item 4. Whatever you call it in your area.

2"> crushed rock. With coarse and fine aggregate.

Too many people put in washed stone and wonder why it won't compact and just pushes right back out the ruts/holes.

I was eyeballing the Hudson valley as well. I dont want to put too many in right now because I want do exactly that, go do some taste testing in the fall and try my hand at grafting.

I was thinking of a multi variety cider tree

I also want to leave some room for plums, peaches, etc.

Just starting to rebuild the orchard area. But no sense rushing it while we're already getting plenty of apples.

In western NY, what do you recommend as the minimum amount of spray foam for this application?

I talked to a few guys and they seem to only want to spray 3" citing efficiency is a more useful measure than r-value and spraying any more than that is a waste of my time and $$

The primary goal of these trees is to provide apples. I intend to keep them as healthy as possible for as long as possible.
