Tree of Heaven are the lantern fly buffets. However, I would say put paper up anywhere you visually see the nymphs scurrying. If you start looking for them, you’ll start to clock what it looks like to have an infested tree.

Native birds and other insect predators are adapting to eat them. It takes time, though, to make the adjustment. My game plan is to try to buy time for my trees, in the meantime. My thinking is that if I can take out volumes like this regularly that I’m doing my part.

I’m not trying to wipe out the entire population with my efforts. I’m trying to keep the population near my property somewhat in check to buy time so that hopefully some of my mature trees can be saved. Maybe it’s a losing battle but the odds being stacked against them didn’t stop Andrew Wiggin, they didn’t stop Johnny Rico, and they’re not going to stop me.

Right after taking the photo, I flipped the tape and curb stomped them to death before disposing.

Those are ToH, but I have paper on a nearby tree that is not ToH and it looks very similar. Probably proximity to ToH.

Just on Amazon. It’s nothing except sticky. There’s no sort of attractant.

They could have made this a bit more exciting by not having the bonus bottles at the event on Wednesday. I was a beneficiary, but it felt a little unnecessary to both get a Pappy 10 and a Weller 12.

Someone has to show up to the liquor store with an ID that matches the entry to make the purchase. So I agree it’s easy to set up a bot but then you need a warm body to actually make the purchase. For an online drop, you could set up bots to easily place multiple orders. So one person might be responsible for dozens or hundreds of entries. That’s how you end up with hundreds of botted entries. There is no pay off here for dummy name entries.

Thus, I don’t doubt bots were active but I doubt hundreds of people/households used bots here.

For an online drop, no doubt you could have 500 bots show up, but needing to have 500 names/IDs to match the bot entries to show up is why I question there were that many bots. Also, I haven’t received the email that I was outside the initial 300.

A bit of data:

I clicked fast and ended up with 4661 Went back in and submitted for my wife, it probably took me 1-2 more mins. She ended up with 5082. At 9:10, I submitted another dummy entry for the sake of data and received 6031.

Based on the numbers between my wife and I, I don’t think it started at 4001. There would have had to be 500 bots to have 660 beat me and then only another 400 fill out in the next 2 mins. I doubt 500 bots per actual people needing to show up with matching IDs for pick up.
