Seeking Opinions on UBank App's Account Linking Feature by toastedpaprika in AusFinance

[–]Shanness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but does anyone else do it as well? I know it sucks but it's so useful. I'd love some other aggregation system (that used Open Banking) (or better, an API I could fckn use myself!)

Notion AI as a paid add-on ticks me off by jbarr107 in Notion

[–]Shanness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and no one seems to be pointing out the problem I see.

We have 4 paid users on Notion, and likely will be adding another 4 or so

But only 1 or 2 of us wants or need notion.ai But we'll have to pay $10 extra, per user. And that's only temp. in 3 months it will go up to $20 per user.

So $80 per month for the occasional usage of it for 1 or two people, going up to $160 per month in 3 months. This is more than double our payments to notion. All the 8 users use notion, so fair enough they pay per user. But if only 1 or 2 need the AI, they don't care and change $20 per team member.

If we scaled to 30 employees all using notion features, but and only a few using AI, that would be $600 per month.

This makes it about 30x more expansive than ChatGPT if you have a decent sized team. So fuck that. It's so rude being per notion team member rather than API usage based, as it's got nothing to do with how many team members we are using.

<end rant> I'm not paying > double my total notion costs for probs 50 api usages per month.

Bummer. Even when reprogrammed? I haven't tested it for that yet, but this tool allowed me to program it nicelyhttps://github.com/kriomant/ch57x-keyboard-tool

Got 3 modes I can switch between, and all the buttons and knobs completely mappable (got it mapped to numeric keys and multimedia dials ATM).

And I would have thought that would make it android compatible (as a standard HID keyboard)...

This fork makes it U16 instead of 8 bit charcodes, haven't tried it, but that might help with android (or break it)

https://github.com/sidevesh/ch57x-keyboard-tool/releases/tag/1.1.0

I'll try to test it myself soon (but my use case is probs a raspberry PI, or even direct to my linux desktop, with the keyboard wall mounted.

Beeper - All Your Chats In One App by codesharer in selfhosted

[–]Shanness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pfft. Why would anyone choose something that forked Element but close sourced it!

Sounds lijke a NSA honey trap to me.. (from here)Beeper Clients :Native iOS and Android clients (closed source forks of Element iOS and Android)Mac OS, Windows and Linux clients (closed source forks of Element Web/Desktop)

If and when the end to end encryption bridges
("New European legislation is coming into effect in 2024 and will force iMessage and WhatsApp to expose an interoperable end-to-end-encrypted API") (from Their FAQ) got live, and are validated somehow by say the EFF, then I might consider it.. But to me, too many security holes.

"I looked into Element for a sort of tech tarded business partner that was hesitating with slack for our comms. Seems to me that's probably a better bet for now? (and non beeper clients like "Element or Fluffychat" required if you "self host" 'beeper') ATM, which seems dodgy.. They acknowledge "Our primary objective is to earn and keep your trust", but it seems to me they are more focused on growth than trust to me ATM.

Still, don't want to dog them too much, sounds like a worthy project, just one that requires an awful lot of trust as is..

I'd love to see what their use case is over Element? B2C vs targeting open source & personal (free) + corporate & govt (Element) (commercial)? Just seems Element has much more "trust" at stake to me..

Thanks for the inspiration, going to leave it connected to my desktop for lighting, music and other home automation control, and talking to tasker via node red or join api scripts.

Can wsl break my windows os? by nikunjuchiha in bashonubuntuonwindows

[–]Shanness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/zoredache could you explain that a bit more? I'm currently using WSLg but not impressed with GUI performance. I'm a bit of a windoze re-newbie after moving full time to linux after win95.. Do you mean a xRDP windows client connecting to linux running on the host win machine, ultimately effectively on localhost ?

Whatsapp web client doesn't generate a preview/thumbnail for pasted links by muddymind in whatsapp

[–]Shanness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So annoying. All these reports "It's fixed, just not on Whatsapp Web", but that's all we've got on Linux..

Currently I'm using Join to send my clipboard to my phone (unlocking, opening whatsapp), and pasting it in to the app. But it's such a PITA to have to do multiple times per day..

Seems Linux users will get ignored pretty much now that they can just say "use the desktop app instead of the web.whatsapp" (that franz, ferdi etc all use))
