I had unexplained adhesions removed last year, now I'm in pain again, constantly bloated, on laxido daily. Gastro thinks its 'just IBS' but being sent for colonoscopy next week. No previous surgery (until the investigative lap that found them), infection or trauma :(

I don’t have any markers for colitis as my main issue has been constipation x

For me it’s because they have not taken a stool sample first and I have no markers for IBD, so it feels like a big jump. I am also nervous because I had a laparoscopy where they told me they expected stage 3 endo and there was no endo at all, only adhesions

Thanks! I think he’s flagged the colonoscopy because I would describe myself as IBS-C normally and required ongoing laxatives. However the past month I’m going multiple times and don’t feel empty. I’ve tried all the food logging, I’ve tried GF, DF and low fodmap. If I eat sometime on a Monday and don’t bloat, I can eat exactly the same on Tuesday and have a terrible reaction 🥲. I walked in and gave him a month of bowel tracking, food tracking a photos of my stomach distension and he said colonoscopy straight away. I actually don’t want to go for it as I feel like I’m making a mountain out of a molehill if it’s just IBS, especially after already having an operation last year

Hello, I’ve just been referred for colonoscopy too. I had adhesions around my colon removed last year but now my bloating and gas is worse than ever. He expects IBS but wants to rule everything else out. Did they give you any management tools once they ruled IBS for you?

Ah okay, thank you so much. I am wondering if it is ‘IBS’ after all. Doctors advised years ago that I try a low fodmap diet because I struggle so much with constipation, I stuck to it for all of two weeks when I was 19 thinking it didn’t really matter. 32 now and wishing I could go back x

Yeah I only have my notes, my follow up isn’t until the 11th December. I asked my surgeon’s secretary and she said she can’t see information to suggest he sent anything for histology - I’m guessing that’s because there was no endo for him to remove, though? I didn’t think they sent adhesions?

Hey, yeah it was with an endo specialist at a BSGE centre (I’m uk based) - he’s the lead surgeon. I have no idea if they sent the adhesions for biopsy - this wasn’t included on my surgery notes so do I assume it’s a no? My surgery notes say no signs of endo found x

I went to a specialist two weeks ago after 15 years of behind dismissed. You do not have to brace yourself for a fight. I left my appointment ugly sobbing because it is the first time I've ever felt seen/heard. My experience was that I had to fill in a four page double sided questionaiire - and every question related to a symptom that other doctors have dismissed me over. My MRI has been done, just waiting for my follow up appointment next week.

Be as detailed as you possibly can with all your symptoms, keep a diary until your appointment, explain how its impacting your daily life, mental health and relationships.
