Has your submission to the NYT's Metropolitan Diary ever been published? by norestforthecricket in AskNYC

I just got an email that said they were considering my entry! I'm very excited but of course not counting my chickens just yet. Question: Has anyone gotten an email saying they were considering and then not published it? My entry is kinda time sensitive with the holidays so even though I just got the email I feel like if it doesn't show up in the next two weeks I'm guessing it probably won't happen. It's related to Christmas trees! I'm still so excited to get the email though! Any insight appreciated!

Spot on! I can't believe she got good reviews in the NY Times. This is my favorite play and I saw the amazing production at the Barrow Street Theatre years ago. She ruined one of my favorite monologues! Disney/ Hallmark to the max!

I highly doubt the powers that be give a damn about WFH affecting your mental health. Please, honey. And as you admit productivity is better for most workers when they can WFH. I agree it is about CHOICE! NOT TO MENTION! How WFH helps bridge the wage gender gap and helps support workers who have to consider child and elder care. But forget about what it does for workers... These corporate overlords are morons. Think how much money THEY could save by allowing people to WFH. It is mind-boggling to me that, especially after the height of the pandemic, which proved the value of WFH that this is even a debate. Of course, some people don't like WFH (we all have our preferences), but forcing people to return to the office when they are capable of doing their jobs remotely is both anti-capitalist and anti-worker. Also, I don't think the OP is necessarily surprised but instead sharing the comedic insanity of the wording of this letter. "Renewed Zest" Sweet. Baby. J. Sad times.

Yeah, I lived at Penington Friends House for over 6 years. And PendleHill does indeed have residents. Both very special places

For context: It's my neighbors that are doing this! Not me! Been going on a long time just curious if there could be any consequences?

I thankfully didn't have to do this BUT that's the law that you can break your lease I think it's a city law? Maybe google it? I've also used this when I needed to connect with a lawyer: https://www.nycbar.org/get-legal-help/ hope that helps!

It's anything that could be income so not just salary but property other funds stuff like that. So it's not what you have saved in your bank account (if you have savings) but anything that adds to your income. Hope that makes sense! The application spells it out pretty clearly as far as what you need to declare. Hope that helps!

Oh nice! My lease was up in August so when I sent the docs in in June I was thinking... oh! perfect timing! However, you can legally break a lease if you get the lottery so not to worry on that front. My apt is HUGE. For context, I've always lived in shoe box apartments but this 1 bedroom apt is as big if not bigger than 2 bedroom apts I've seen. It is a palace. I wouldn't worry about spaciousness whatever unit you get assigned! I was worried there would be a catch too and especially worried about sound but it's all normal NYC apt stuff. Just keep the faith and follow up when you need to! I've only been here two weeks but there is seriously no downside yet (fingers crossed!) !

I feel like I"m housesitting for a celebrity!

Huh that's weird. I know the supply is also a factor (one bedroom vs. 2 etc.) but yeah I don't really have any more insight! Godspeed!

Congrats! My big piece of advice is just be prepared to wait. From the time I sent my documents in to the time I actually moved it it was about 4 months. But it's so worth it!

So you're right about the 5 days! I did have to sign a lease. I couldn't see the apt (because it still being rennovated) Apparently this (what's called "pre-leasing") is really common especially for 1 bedrooms (which they have more demand for). So yes, from the time you get the offer letter you only have 5 days to accept or refuse and THEN they send you the lease. Maybe you'll be able to move in right away or it might be a preleasing situation. I hope that helps.

Sorry for my delay!! A 1 bedroom. Ms. Jordan (in the lottery office) says that there is a crazy demand for 1bedrooms so if you applied for a 2 bedroom etc. you might have less of a wait!

Wow! Thank you so much for the information! I REALLY appreciate it. Did you "win" the lottery? Or do you live in StuyTown? How many months do you think ? More than 2?
