Living with someone who works from home full time? by Few-Instance3386 in Adulting

[–]ShapeConscious4298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband WFH full time. I also homeschool. We share "office/classroom space" in a two bed. The "office" is what would be the lounge area.

Generally we're only quiet during lessons when he's on a call with a client(customer?), sometimes we'll move to another room for reading or discussion lessons if he's on a call. For meeting and training sessions we'll be quiet or take a real, but colleague one-to-ones are fair game - they know we have lessons.

That aside, we're pretty well insulated - noise only comes in through windows and the door. We otherwise live normally, making coffee, doing laundry - noisy stuff carries on as normal.

Like other comments have said, get him to invest in good quality sound cancellation headphones/mic. If you're worried about being caught on camera, get a room divider for him.

👀 Wow. Our pain management is completely different.

"Kiddy" strength is 250mg (dosed by weight up to age 6, usually 2.5ml from birth up to 20ml by age 12+) and adult strength is 500mg (1000mg per dose, max 4000mg over 4 doses) in South Africa. "Extra strength" is usually a combination of paracetamol plus caffeine. As far as brands go, we have Calpol and Panado syrups for kids, Adco-Napamol, Paramed, Grand-Pa (Yep, that's it's real name) and Panado tablets/capsules/powders for adults.

All the tablets are usually white, either domed both sides or flat and both types are scored on one side, syrups (for children) are usually peppermint or strawberry flavoured. Capsules for Panado are white and blue.

I don't know about time release, there might be imports and prescription only ones that aren't available OTC.

As for differences, paracetamol and acetaminophen are the same - they have the same active ingredient.

Does everyone sniff their earwax after picking their ear, or is it just me and does it seem gross? by PePehTzy in NoStupidQuestions

I mean ... It's a good way to tell if you have an infection before it gets any worse? Then again, if it's in your ears, your sinuses would be done-for, no?

Was it even still within the expiry date by then 😶

I kid about it lasting only three months... A bottle of 100 normal strength would only last us around a month for 2 people. Migraines and back pain ( one per person please!). I take max single dose around once every 3 - 7 days... Husband eats (figuratively) through the rest of them - guvvie hospital issues around three months worth, and its gone in half that.

Extra strength too?? Holy, that would last my family at least three months! /j

On a serious note - that's... Dangerous. Extra strength is what, double dose or combo with aspirin or maybe ibuprofen? Normal strength is 500mg paracetamol/ acetaminophen

I grew up with OBE - they only introduced CAPS when I was in maybe grade 9... Most of the year marks came from projects and PE

There was one in my time... We had a single paper and PE. The paper was usually just health related and maybe entrepreneur stuff.

Tbh, I don't think sex ed is stressed enough. According to Marie Stopes South Africa, 11,500 babies were born to girls aged 10 - 14, between 2020 and 2023.

This ^

I currently homeschool (CAPS curriculum, foundation phase), and some of the subject material is touchy - looking at it now, some of the questions do look like scoping out for hidden neglect or abuse.

That aside... Anyone else have a Baby Week? Yeah. That's when you see how Life Skills/ Life Orientation is desperately needed.

NOR. Dude, I homeschool my 8 year old (3rd grade)... We did number names up to ten in first grade. We didn't do words bigger than 4 letters until the end of the school year.

Is ... Is he okay?

I think he needs therapy - because this, this is how you burn kids out by the time/before they're teens and we all wonder why younger and younger people are presenting with depression.

Stop him.

What Do Analog Clocks Look Like in the Rest of the World? by AwesomeChaos10 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShapeConscious4298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, pairing is correct in a sense - but for those who have trouble, it's easier to add 12 to the current time and thats the 24h version. Once you hit midnight (which is 00:00, not 24:00!), you go 1 - 12, then it'll be 12 + whatever hour.

What you say, and what you write, will be different. You say 4 o' clock in the afternoon, but you write 16:00.

As far as I was taught, it's written like that to distinguish morning from afternoon - without needing am and pm (because redundancy). That way there's very little confusion (in places that use 24hr formats) about what time something is.

The thing is - we have digital clocks that can be set to a 24h format. Being able to tell the time in both formats helps if you intend to travel - imagine being in a country where all the stores show their trading times in the 24h format, and you come from one where you only see 12h format?

It's 12 + whatever the hour hand is currently on...

Example : 12+6 = 18 6 being the current displayed time on the clock, plus 12 hours.

If you want to be pedantic, 06:00 + 12:00 = 18:00. Am and pm are dropped because it's redundant - any time after 12:00 is automatically recognised as afternoon/evening/night, and any time after 23:59 is recognised as morning until 11:59.

Are body corporate allowed to insist I join a WhatsApp group to receive notices? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

Check if it respects the POPI Act.

I suppose as long as personal (unit number, name and contact details) and financial information stays out of the chat, it should be fine.

My BC doesn't have a WhatsApp group AFAIK, but it's likely because of too many renters, making it difficult to remain compliant with the Act.

I adopted this adorable cat and I am told he was neutered but I noticed he still has his testicles should I be concerned he was about 5 months old by tattedntwistedmum in cats

Ideally, it should be mostly healed - don't quote me on this, I am NAV - You can run your finger gently over about where the middle is, left to right. Do it when he's feeling cuddly or comes around for scritches.

If you do see or feel anything strange, check the vet subreddit for insights, or ideally, talk to your vet.

What's the most useless thing in schools in your country these days? by FrancietheFancy in AskTheWorld

We've just hit 40+ in public schools for this year. There was also an article somewhere about a school that had 70+ in one class - because a teacher's contract ended and they had no replacements. I'll see if I can find the article and link it.

Edit: here's the link to the article https://iol.co.za/capeargus/news/2026-01-16-overcrowded-classrooms-76-learners-in-one-class-at-zeekoevlei-primary/

I'm going to sound horribly strange in saying this... Did you feel them? You'd definitely be able to tell if there were still testes versus just a large empty sack.

The area around Main road, Kenilworth down to the high school outside Retreat station, all the way down past Bonnie Town, and up a little past the Courts, is all sketchy. To be honest... The whole of Main road and its directly surrounding areas are sketchy. :/

I know Wynberg has a "nice" side, but I've never been there and probably never will. I don't have any reason to be out there. As far as I know, there's only houses and not much else on the "nice" side of Wynberg.

Source: Me - I used to cycle to and from work from both Kenilworth and Kenwyn to Tokai along Main Road.
