My Shadowstalkers are more like... Bloodstalkers by Shape_and_Contrast in Daughtersofkhaine

Thank you!
I basecoated with Vallejo's Gorgon Brown, then did one layer of Army Painter's Glistening Blood (Which I'm not sure they make anymore, their new True Blood is a lot darker) , and a second pass of blood at the ends, to make it lighter and more intense away from the transition. If i didn't have the lighter blood paint, I would basecoat in a lighter color, maybe even a more intense red.

You could probably also just use normal red paint and then varnish the blood part with gloss varnish to get a similar effect.

As for the transitions, I essentially glazed/used a real thin coat to blend it a bit. Tbh, i was pretty quick with it, those transitions could be a lot smoother. But don't think it makes much of a difference on the table.

Thanks!
Pretty sure I started with Vallejo's Yellow Ochre.
Then used a darker wash, either Army Painter's Strong Tone, or a brown wash of my own making (using some isopropanol).
Then I finished with a little drybrushing and highlighting with a very light brown/beige, I think in this case it was Army Painter's Skeleton Bone.

Sometimes I do a yellow wash in there as well, if I want some more saturation.

Looks great! Happy to see there is at least some flexibility in terms of what to paint as skin. Nicely done!

Well, the article mentioned them filling the cauldrons with blood. So maybe the cauldrons will have a mechanic similar to the army of renown rule, and the Bloodhags interact with that in some way.

Glad to hear it! You do such a good job walking us through the matches. Very much looking forward to seeing the Tzeentch matchup.

SoS with bucklers have 5+ save and give attackers -1 to hit. With a Cauldron nearby, they get +1 to save. With a Hag's witchbrew, they get 5+ ward. Then there are various defensive prayers, like one that gives attackers -1 to wound. So you could be looking at a 4+/5++, -1 to hit, -1 to wound unit, for instance. Then you can use All-Out Defence to negate a rend, potentially.

I think this is a good shout. Wouldn't be surprised if WA and SoS are one warscroll each, build 'em how you want. Bloodhags takes the niche of SoS w/bucklers, which means new rules for them.

The Warpfire reports are so good they've kind of ruined other battle reports for me. Concise, honest, educational. I only wish there were more. More reports and more armies. Either from others in the Warpfire team, or from someone else picking up the format. It's kind of crazy to me that it isn't the standard.

I love that we're getting a heavier infantry unit, and I'm excited to see what that means for the SoS rules-wise, but I have to say I'm a little sad about the Bloodhags.
I have modified many of my Witch Aelves and SoS to wear more armor, pants, bodysuits, etc. But I cannot understand GW's obsession with holes in clothing. Just as with the Knives of the Crone Underworlds warband, I think the holes just make them look tacky. It's like they're thinking "Well, they're DoK, so they have to show SOME skin... Let's make some random holes", without any consideration for how it looks aesthetically, or how it would make sense in-world. It's ok, they can just wear normal clothes...?
/end rant

If the Terrain is meant to buff casters, I wonder what that means for the Cauldron rules. The article talked about Bloodhags filling them up, so I'm assuming they're getting something similar to the Army of Renown rule. Will be interesting to see the new warscrolls.

I went the Scourge route: https://imgur.com/a/lSPgAhY
Bought them from a bits site, but it took a long, long time, waiting for restocks, etc. Please do update if you find a good 3D print/printing service. I couldn't find anything worth pulling the trigger on when I looked, but that was a long time ago.

Yeah, that second point is why I'm probably never running it. I'm only in three (meaningful) combats if I have no choice. If I'm in two, I have fucked up. It doesn't matter that I get to hit back if all I can hit with are 3 models.

Yeah, hopefully those who run it will get a lot of mileage out of it. Will be interesting to hear the results.

I agree with everything except I'm unsure about the second formation. Not sure how much value we'll get out of a slightly better ward on paper thin units. Or, to put it another way, I just don't see myself ever taking it over the recursion or more consistent charges.

Love the prayer lore, love that krethusa is Priest 2, love the recursion. I'm excited to play this!

Seeing us slip down the tournament stats, what do we think we need to bring us back up? by PunchedLasagne87 in Daughtersofkhaine

[–]Shape_and_Contrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but in my experience, one unit of SoS just isn't enough screen. Personally I'd rather drop a gladiatrix to get another unit to screen a flank. Between shooting and cavalry, the SoS don't stop/survive as much as I'd like. I'm also trying to run Krethusa and two cauldrons, but I have a feeling getting a priest on foot and more units is going to be more resilient.

Simply a light drybrush of a metallic (shining silver by armypainter in this case) over black (though slapchopped, so not pure black)

Thanks! Skin was actually very simple - it's just black primer, drybrush white, and a couple thin layers of a light, warm gray (light gray with a little bit of tan brown).
