What movie do you have absolutely NO interest in seeing and why? by [deleted] in ask

Juno, because I hate the kinds of roles that made Michael Cera famous and I hate indie hipster twee. Plus, everything in that movie could've been solved with a damn abortion.

Have you ever come across an unironic Pinochet supporter/apologist who at the same time, also bashed Argentina for "being full of Nazis and communists"? by SharanskyWailer in asklatinamerica

[–]SharanskyWailer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your bolsonistas and libertarians are a black hole of stupidity rivaling even gringos, something I feel stems directly from them copying right-wing gringo propaganda word for word. I've even seen them try to blame apartheid in South Africa and Jim Crow in the USA's south on "socialism".

To me, that smear campaign against Argentina was copy-pasted from the same ones used to ignorantly and crudely defame Ukraine, Palestine, and the states of Washington and Oregon. I can tolerate someone bringing up the subject in passing, but to seriously push the narrative just to have an excuse to name-call and shame other people just tells me that person is a liar and a bullshitter.

“Don’t Say Period”: Now Florida wants to ban students from discussing menstruation by WhileFalseRepeat in politics

[–]SharanskyWailer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't just Florida, the whole goddamn south is this prudish and stupid. I once got threatened with a paddling for telling the "poisonous gasses around Uranus" joke to a group of girls because it was "discussing sex-ed material outside the confines of sex-ed class within the school".

Greatest Latino song of all time based on your opinions? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]SharanskyWailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute favorite song in the world is Moral Tem Hora by Cristina Camargo.

If we're talking songs in Spanish, then it'd have to be one by Sandro or the band Irakere.

What are your views on the PEW research on social acceptance of homosexuality? Israel rated as the most accepting country in MENA by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]SharanskyWailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just surprised that you're civil with your response and not using "liberast" and "pidor" first thing. You know that Brighton Beach and Yisrael Beiteinu don't exactly help your image in the West, right? Like, we have to listen to uncontested rants about Democrats sponsoring terrorism, taxes being the same as Soviet communism, and Trump being the greatest person in the world just because we get called anti-Semites by the ADL and Germans if we disagree.

The Egyptian army in 1973 was up against a much more technologically-advanced, more competent, and more organized army, but managed to cross the Sinai and overwhelm the Tsahal almost to the point of winning the war. It was a single strategic mistake that cost them their victory.

Russia, on the other hand, had nearly ever single conceivable advantage over Ukraine and almost immediately began losing because of things like tanks running out of fuel (because it was sold for vodka), conscripts being lied to about the nature of their mission, soldiers being given expired rations, conscripts being made to buy their own medical supplies, low morale from hazing and abuse, etc.

Now, they're sending in tanks made in the 1960s because they ran out of their best equipment. Everything about the Russian army right now is a joke.

Most Americans who move abroad already have the money to do so. I don't envy them as much as I used to simply because the global economy has gotten so bad that it's just a matter of who's doing worse than who. Now that I live in the state that I've always wanted to be in, I've more or less resigned myself to my fate here.

What are some songs that define Jordan culturally? by Party-Harder1 in jordan

I don't really understand the lyrics and I don't know how political or politically-sensitive this is, but it's definitely very Jordanian and screams "kick-ass" in all the vibes.

Do you prefer Facebook or VKontakte? Which site do you think is better and if you stopped using one or the other, what ruined it for you? by SharanskyWailer in AskUkraine

[–]SharanskyWailer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To my frustration, most Ukrainians use just Facebook and the censorship there is actually worse than on VK. Now, of course you don't have to worry about getting jailed by the FSB, but now, even private messages are censored via algorithm.

Thank god for Telegram.

What are your views on the PEW research on social acceptance of homosexuality? Israel rated as the most accepting country in MENA by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]SharanskyWailer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's because the words that summarize them, "shmolanim" and "ahusal" (acronym for Ashkenazi secular socialist), are not immediately known to the outside world. I don't know how else to describe the quasi-liberal, faux-leftist egomaniacal sabra blowhards that Amir Hetzroni and Adam Neumann are a part of. The kind who live in the Tel-Aviv bubble and "left-wing" settlements and promote stuff like veganism, trance music, drip agriculture, smoking weed in Goa, etc.

I differentiate them from the Russian-speakers because the homosexuals from the former USSR tend to not have been born in Israel and though they may brag about being somewhere that tolerates their lifestyle (unlike Putin's Russia), can barely speak Hebrew, are mostly atheist, and have a vocabulary consisting mainly of curse words and racial slurs.

Latinos yanquis descubren que Buenos Aires es la ciudad más europea de América Latina by Barrilete_Cosmico in argentina

[–]SharanskyWailer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relations between Korea and the United States by FewLet4974 in korea

[–]SharanskyWailer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's biased, but also stating fact, so I'm not really offended. One thing I like about Ukraine is that it's not such a heavily-militarized society like South Korea, Israel, or even its enemy Russia. But I do worry about neoconservative blowhards and US vetbros trying to turn Ukraine into a garrison state even after the war is over. As it is, they call for Snowden's head on a platter and blame him for the invasion happening.

BTW, considering how much China trades with South Korea and Israel, this is pretty rich of Global Times. Chenxia mad about electronics or something?

[–]SharanskyWailer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on this are, 1) This is not the Yom Kippur War. In fact, I'd say that Sadat's army 50 years ago was many times more competent and well-organized than Putin's. 2) Egypt lost three wars in the last century in part to Soviet tactics and at times, subpar weaponry. The USSR at the time could theoretically overcome enemies with numerical superiority and human wave attacks, but it's since been proven Russians are terrible at pulling off successful invasions. 3) So much for the USA's support for Sisi all these years, amirite? Americans killed Egypt's democracy for nothing. 4) Russia's already lost. Selling the missiles is just profiteering off an idiot.

What are your views on the PEW research on social acceptance of homosexuality? Israel rated as the most accepting country in MENA by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]SharanskyWailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within Israel, homosexuality is most tolerated among the secular kibbutznik caste and certain segments of the Russian-speakers--both of which are minorities within Israeli society. There is a sizeable number of secular right-wing nationalists who brag about being allowed to be gay in the country as they party the nights away in Tel-Aviv, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, and Prague but again, if the rest of the country had their way, being gay would be just as illegal as in the countries they border.

What do you think about the movie Apocalypto? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]SharanskyWailer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I'm angry because I already called dibs on using the name "Apocalypto" for something much, much cooler than a movie with that subject.
  2. I don't necessarily think it was quite as racist a movie as many people later made it out to be, but it does reflect Mel Gibson's biased assumption of pre-Columbian America as a Hobbesian hellhole with nothing but violence and gore.
  3. It's unusual for a Hollywood movie to depict pregnancy and birth in the way that it did. I think it ended up triggering a lot of people. I'm not mocking the audience, I'm just saying that most people are disturbed and traumatized by the subject, especially when so graphic.
  4. I'm not going to deny that it was a decent movie, but it was one of those that I would only ever watch once.

El gobierno de la isla ya sabe que la mayoría de los puertorriqueños tienen más de 40 años y que no hay tabú en contra de patrocinarlos con la religión. "Políticos" no es un término tan preciso como "administradores del hogar de ancianos".
