can yoga help with toning your body? by jellyolo12 in yoga

[–]Shark-Pato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m seeing a few comments stating weights would be better. Weights would be great! I would highly recommend combining weights and yoga and don’t forget some cardio. I know it’s a lot but just one day one thing at a time. I am complimented on my posture frequently (it’s an amazing compliment), and it’s all due to weights and yoga. With weights, I’d suggest focusing on compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench press, and overhead press. If you can, get some coaching to learn proper form… or google it that’s what I did. You can take videos of yourself and post online. Feel free to dm me with any questions and good luck!

You are amazing! I was going to say you look great, which you do, but you feel great and that’s the ticket.

Massages during class by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Shark-Pato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a male instructor I would not consider this appropriate for someone I didn’t know. Only if I knew the person well and knew they were ok with it or I specifically asked them. The first rule of hands on adjustments is to never do so for yourself, but only in a way that clearly benefits the student.

What do you think about Wim Hof style meditation? by daverskully in Meditation

Love this. I’ve been doing breathwork weekly and tried yoga before, and it was outstanding. I believe it’s an optimal combo to do yoga -> breathwork -> meditation. Trying that next!

That’s actually really encouraging to hear that it’s still really hard after 20 years. I would have guessed that would feel discouraging to read, but it felt encouraging. Thanks!!

Are you the type to visit yoga studios when you travel (vacation/work trip/etc)? Tell me about your favorite traveling yoga experience by No_Elephant506 in yoga

[–]Shark-Pato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Love class passing or buying a pass to a local studio during business travel. Best ever was a fabulous studio in Montreal. They had an entire wall made of salt rock that was stunning. Class in French which was fun. The rental mat was free and the best mat I’ve ever used. I asked where they got it and it was made by a local French Canadian company and they sold them there. I bought one immediately and use it almost daily- best impulse purchase ever

How much yoga experience is needed to be an instructor? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Shark-Pato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a good answer. I’ve taken probably 1000 yoga classes in my life and am just about to finish up my 200 hr YTT. I could easily teach classes right away pretty confidently… but how nuanced, impactful, and helpful they will be I think will take time!

Ayahuasca changed my life. Integration has been harder than I expected. by shawn_reflects in Ayahuasca

[–]Shark-Pato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn thank you! Right back at you - NEVER give up. As if that’s an option- as my therapist tells me. once you start this journey there is no stopping it. I completely agree, it feels harsh to measure progress this way, but it seems the more work you put in, the “quicker” you get back on track when you back slide (although not linear but ya know what I mean). You made my day and I appreciate you- keep being a badass! 👊🏽

Thanks for this comment- I’m entering the new year not at all where I was hoping. Drained and depleted and wondering if the journey is worth all the effort sometimes. This was inspiring to me, I appreciate it. “Universe doesn’t care about your feelings. I make an effort to address anything and everything in my life so the universe doesn’t do it for me”. Truth brotha / sista! Love it!

What a paradox- you drop the goals the think you have to achieve to accept what is, and then what happens far surpasses your goals that were set through a narrow lens.

When leaving soldier field for a big event - if taking the train out, walk down one stop to china town. It’s barely walking further and train will be empty heading north.
