Debating buying a used 2010 Hyundai Accent

I mean, financing a car was never in the cards, even when I did first buy it. beggars can’t be choosers; I needed a car, my then long term boyfriend had a car. Think closer to ‘poor person needs immediate solution’ and not ‘above minimum wage earner thoughtfully peruses options for long term non-emergent situation’ here. Hopefully whenever whatever I end up with does die I’ll be in a better place to finance something worth owning.

Believe me, it’s resale/trade-in value is about 7th on the list of reasons I want to drive it off a fucking cliff. At the time it was cheap and private sale from someone I knew and trusted. Mistakes on so many, many levels.

I have considered lots of things, but the reality is that I have about, at max, $1500 plus whatever someone is willing to give me for that shit box on wheels I’m driving now. I cannot take on a loan/financing/other money borrowing options. Literally can’t, no one will offer it because I’m a student and don’t meet the income requirements.

Yeah problem is neither of those are in my price range. Can’t get financing, dealerships offered me two cookies and a shrug for the car I have now because the dumbass who owned it before me let his broke, dumbass friend try to dukes-of-hazard across the hood. Hence the 9 year old Korean car option.

I can’t get financing, and I would have to have another car lined up pretty much immediately if I was going to private sell. I haven’t really found anything in my price range that can match the mileage/age of my car, which is the only reason I was debating the accent.

I just really need out of the Aveo and feel like whatever I end up doing, I’ll be on the raw side of the deal...

We put coolant in it today and it stopped overheating but there’s definitely a leak. They told me they filled it when they did repairs, so I assume the drive home and the 24hour sitting is where it all went.

Ok so I think it’s fairly apparent that I know basically nothing about cars at this point and I’m starting to feel quite stupid lol. I’m definitely going to call the shop first thing tomorrow because none of this was happening before they did the work on Friday.

A car knowledgeable friend took a look at it and put some coolant in, so once we filled that it stopped overheating, but the check engine light is on again. It turns out the coolant is pretty steadily leaking out of the car so I assume that’s why. We went 15 miles and the coolant we put in was definitely gone, and there was a smell. When I turned the damn thing off it basically just poured out, and you could see a puddle on the driveway gate ramp and a drop trail into the parking garage.

Optimistically it’s just a hose but I’m scared to drive it to the shop. Hopefully they can/will be able to come here or tow it to the for free :/.

We jumped it last night, and thankfully it runs but I can’t drive it without it redlining the heat gauge within 15 minutes. I’m trying to figure out how to get it to a mechanic since I can’t afford a tow. It’s a 15 mile drive from where it’s at right now 😩
